on Vacation in Summit County Colorado (Think Frisco: Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail) from Phoenix, AZ. According to the program "scorecard" I've been using for the past 2 years with 43 rounds posted I'm about a 9 handicap. Never seeing the course My family and I played The River course at Keystone (71.3/137) par 71 @ 6886 yards which were the tips where I played from. The altitude, tight fairways and large altitude drops off tee boxes was CRAZY. On a Par 5 I hit almost a 400 yard drive and had a short iron approach. Shot an 82 with one lost ball. Could have putted better and my approaches on the back 9 were erratic. Not used to the thick long rough being from the phoenix area.

Getting clubs regripped soon.. recommendations?
jdotConnor replied to bkoguy07's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I really wish they would standardize grip sizing and description. Some is easy and basic; round vs rib, cord/half cord/no cord, but "Women" "standard" "mid-size" and "oversize/jumbo" seem to change a bit with every company. Then you have to take into account core size, .580 vs .600 and it's effect on the grips outer size. The one that is really bothering me is Taper and how no one seems to bother measuring it or describing it at all. Can you tell I am re-shafting my irons and shopping for grips lately? LOL -
Why is it a GIR if you drive Par 4s or reach Par 5s in two?
jdotConnor replied to nleary9201's topic in Golf Talk
for GIR on par 5's reached in 2 I think of it like getting somewhere "on time" if I'm 30 minutes early I'm still "on time" just early. for sand saves and up and downs I only count them so if the 1 putt is for par. I don't, but you could count, in the case of a par 4 almost driven or a par 5 reached in 2 to birdie. -
Do you use an "Droid" App?
jdotConnor replied to DannyB215's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Are all of these GPS driven yardages? I have a Samsung Epic through Sprint service which should be perfect for GPS use but the accuracy is awful for golf. I Spend most the time waiting for the phone to acquire satallite signal. I would rather just be able to download a yardage book like the nicer resort courses used to hand out or that some sell. I'm mainly just looking for carry yardages and lay up distances. For the first time on Wednesday I played par 5's 2 under (3 birdies 1 bogey) The one bogey could have easily been a birdie or even an eagle but I miss judged the carry distance and plugged it in a bunker face. -
I wear a white nike dri-fit hat with a bent bill to play golf in. I wear a black fitted DC Shoe Co. hat with a flat bill when off the golf course. I forgot my nike hat today and wore my DC hat. I am Caucasian with pale skin and blue eyes that are very sensitive to the sun but can't stand sunglasses. I noticed the fitted flat brim hat gave me better sun coverage today. That COULD be a reason too. PS, I hate almost all rap and hip hop. I am an RN Student.

Shot a 78 (40-38) at Papago Golf Course, par 72, where they used to have an LPGA event here in Phoenix, AZ. Played back "Blue" Men's tees at 6771 yards (still Black tips at 7333 yards). It plays to a 72.0/125. Perfect day, low 80's with a real light wind all day and lots of sun. First day with my new putter (Ping iWi Craz-E) and I struggled with it having 3 three putts. Also my driver was ALL over the place. I only hit 2 fairways and they were both par 5's that I birdied. Despite the bad driving I had 9 GIRs, 7 of them in a row. I was also 3/6 on ups and downs.

Feel is the brand but believe it or not they are called "Feel's Full release grips". Anyone with a dirty mind could get a chuckle. I will say that I wish all my midsize grips had substantially less taper on them so I layer tape under my right hand. These seem like a good idea but for me its just going too far.

@ Falcon Dunes in Arizona Par 71 - 6611 yards The powers that be have decided the past few months to play the course backwards which pisses me off. I don't like starting and ending on 2 of the 3 par 5s 39 on the front 9 (holes 10-18) and fell apart the last 2 holes to shoot a 45 on the back (holes 1-9). Gave up 5 strokes on the last 2 holes. Could have shot in the 70's for the first time in months.

The $150 is for just shafts and grips. I have epoxy, tape and use compressed air to install grips so there is no labor or supply fee.

for about $150 I can get these fit for me with Dynamic Gold shafts and grips of my preference. If I bought the G5's how much would they run and if I bought them used, chances they have shafts and grips I want or like? edit*** looks like about $400 to buy them from what I'm assuming is a dealer. But I don't know if I can get the shafts fitted for me.

*****I didn't read the whole thread.... [sarcasm] Jim Furyk Should have been given a 2 stroke penalty for putting his hat on backwards and lost the Tour Championship and the Fedex cup last season {/sarcasm] As far as hats, back in the day there was Jesper Parnevik. Remember HIS hats! Should he have been punished? His hat was backwards for photos and postround interview. I've seen Tiger, Cink and Couples do that. There are other players who wear bright colors. Again Jesper back in the day, Ian Poulter, Daly with those ridiculous pants. Payne Stewart (RIP) used to get flak for his throwback style. Should they be punished? There are other players who have long hair. Check out Miguel Angel Jimenez, he's 46 years old with a pony tail. Bubba Watson and Camilo Villegas both have gotten pretty long in the locks department as well as Aaron Baddly. Should he be punished? I think his hats reflect what many NON-golfing younger people are wearing away from the golfing community. Away from golf I wear a fitted hat with a flat bill that is 2 sizes (1/4 inch) too big for me, on the golf course I wear subtle colors, dark/light blues/greens, blacks, khakis and whites, and a plain white Nike baseball cap. I think the main reasons it is a big deal is he does wear bright colors (whats the harm). He matches EVERYTHING (Hat, shirt, pants, shoes). I followed him for 3 holes at the Waste Management (Phx) Open and his socks matched his hat color. Sorry he knows how to match (?) But most importantly he is good and in the public eye. The way he plays he can dress a little louder and grow his hair to a ponytail like "The mechanic" Jimenez for all I care.

Lightweight carry bags - Ping 4 Under vs SM Three 5
jdotConnor replied to Chicago Lefty's topic in Golf Talk
I'm a huge fan of the old classic Ping Hoofer and L8+ bags but all of their newer ones just aggravate me with "fancy" oddly padded, self retracting straps. That's why EVERY high school and College team used to use them. No fancy frills. No good recommendation though. Sorry, I'm sticking with my 14 year old Ping Hoofer. -
I am 26 and just started playing more often again after not having much time the past 7 years. I have had my Ping irons for 12 years since I was 14 years old, quite a bit shorter and much skinnier. At the time I was a ~14 hdcp and was hoping to play college golf someday but my increase in ability dwindled. I am now, as mentioned, 26 years old, 6'3" tall and about 190 US pounds. I hit my 4 iron just over 200 yards, 7 iron about 170ish, 9 iron just under 150 and play to about a 10.5 hdcp. I'm a pretty consistent driver, over my last 30 rounds I have put ~60% of tee shots on par 4s and 5s in the fairway (I'm a stats guy/not all with driver of course). My irons though tend to spray a bit and are hurting my score almost more then my short game. They are Regular flex JZ Cushin shafts that I KNOW are not stiff enough for me. Because of this my Dad, a ~7 hdcp and most often playing partner, thinks I should buy new irons but the money isn't that prevalent in my wallet. Ping headquarters/manufacturing is a 30 min drive from my house and offer FREE fitting and adjustment on my irons which I confirmed via phone. I figured I'd get the lie readjusted and re-shaft them myself which I have done before. I know I am looking for either a stiff or X-stiff .355 taper tip shaft. I will base that off of Pings fitting as well as just what their swing monitor measures my swing speed at. I predict Ping will also recommend ~0.5" longer shafts but we will see. I know I will probably lose some distance but I have NO problem with this. I want the accuracy...... BADLY! Any suggestions for shafts and their effects on my shots? The basic Dynamic Gold of course is top on my list Rifle? Nippon? FST?
