  1. That just mirrors what I said above..consistant +1's or a mix of +2's/+1's...will get a 95 or so...as well, consistancy gets rid of blowup holes...and gets us all a better score.. Congrats Mr. Zevon...well done..
  2. Guys, you can go +1 on each hole, and play a 88...you dont need par's or Birdies to play under a 100 score...My scores this weekend, were well below 100, by just trying to go + 1 consistantly on each hole..on the green in 3, and two putt..work on a consistant swing that you can hit straight or near straight 95% of time..I have worked with GolfTec for 3 years to get a swing I can play consistantly with...that consistant short, straight swing gets me a +1 per hole, and occasionally a par..Distance is nice to have, if you can control it..I dont have distance, But I learned how to hit shorter, straight shots and get my + 36 double Bogey score down to +18 or +20..
  3. Sunday's Round..... Fairways Hit = 14 GIR = 4 Putts = 37 Front Nine score = 44 , +8 Back Nine Score = 42 , +6 Made the right offset for my swing today...most long shots including driver were draws that came back to center, except two Hybrids that I swung around my body to the left of center by 15 yards..those were the two worst shots of the day..took the time to align my shots properly with an alignment rod as well as the proper distance from the ball...made a huge difference in shot accuracy..as you can see, my GIR will never be good, as I dont have good enough hands to hit it far...but a player can cover that with a good short game and still play at 90 or so.. Cheers..
  4. Thanks Roamin...Will take me a while to get my alignment and distance from the ball consistant so my release thru the ball is in the middle, not to the left..Never had a good swing with a draw before, so I will need to figure out how far right to turn at address to get back to the middle..the new Calloway XR Lob wedge is really nice..helped my short shots yesterday quite a bit..with rain starting to dissapear, maybe I can play a lil more and get my swing adjusted better, and get my score back to the low 90's with some consistancy...
  5. Played this evening..finally a no rain day...My new swing didnt do to well early on, wasnt used to the draw to the left, so a lot of longer shots were too far left...My short game covered best it could..took a +15 on the first 9..maintained my temper/cool, as I hadnt tested the swing on a course under playing conditions...I reloaded and played a much better back 9, adjusted my swing to the right a lil, so the draw came back to center and played a +5 on the back 9, for a +20 over, 90 score...starting to get a feel for my wedges, and my chips were reasonably on target..all in all I cant complain for the 2nd time in 8 weeks or so..
  6. The swing coach I have has helped a lot in the anger department...He consistantly reminds me that everyone hits errant shots ...and too lower my expectations of hitting a good swing 100% of the time..I used to expect to be down the center on every shot, and thats not going to happen...I am slowly adapting to being a few degrees open or closed at impact, and accepting that being off the center by 10-15 yards is okay..My short game is good enuff to take care of that..the mental training is just as hard and time consuming for me, as the all the hours I spent learning to swing a club...
  7. I had and have the temper issue also..once you let it get to you, your round is over...its ruined plenty of my rounds in the past...Not all of us handle lousy golf shots very well...for me it was give it up or get a repeatable consistant decent swing...I love the game, so I went to GolfTec and learned how to swing better...its taken a long time coming, but its much better..and my mental control has improved with it...
  8. Played Saturday, at a local course..Played two sets of 9 holes, carded a 92, or +20, however you prefer to look at it..My swing was good, either inside out with a small draw..or straight down the line at the target..my short game was a little off distance-wise, as the rain here hasnt let me play much...doubled two par-5's just because of distance I dont have...if the rain quits anytime soon I'll get my wedges in order and get below a 90...all in all not a bad round..looks like my swing practice with the Optishot-2 is paying rewards now...
  9. This last week I think my swing finally came together..The stuff the coach was trying to teach for the last few months seems to have all of sudden come to fruition..My stance, straight left arm, turn back and thru, distance to the ball at address, all are starting to give me an inside-out draw, or a straight down the line shot....things are starting to look up, finally...as well I hit it a few yards further..altho that wasnt my immediate goal..
  10. Tod, You dont have to hit driver, ya know..if a 3 wood or hybrid is easier to swing thru and keep straight, why not try it..I use a 3 hybrid many times...i'll give up 20-30 yards in distance for being in the fairway any time..Saves me 3 or 4 points off my score usually..but I prefer to play straight and efficient..when my swing/tempo is on, I can play a 90 or so...when its not, its more like a 98 or 100...
  11. >>>Krupa...if it makes you feel any better, I was at Colonial a few years ago and Kevin Na took a 14 or so on a par 4 ...
  12. There is a saying : Use the right tool for the right job...
  13. Went to Golfsmith while ago..had a 7i regripped and bought a new Calloway x2 Lob wedge to replace my Ping G3 that I left apparently Lying on a green somewhere...I used a Golf Sim at Golf-Smith with my 7I and after about 20 shots, my avg off-line from center was -8 or 8 yards left of center for a 110 yard 7-iron shot..so I guess its starting to come around..
  14. The course I play has a tuff 18th, water to the left and a 75 yard wide water runoff ditch 100 yds in front of the green approach..with a raised green..thats usually the hole I will trash if I am going to trash one..I dont have a very long distance on the big swings, so I try to play smart with smaller, straighter shots, but it doesnt always work for me..plenty times I have taken a +3 at that hole...on good days I play the rest at +1 and par 1 or 2 Par-3's..on bad days, its probably a 50-50 mix of single's and doubles..hopefully it will soon be better, finally starting to get a swing in order, after 6 month's with a golftec coach's help..
  15. Thats how I try and play it...play consistant 90% of my holes, and if I take +4 on 1 hole out of 18, and par a couple of par-3's, I still have a decent round ....
  16. In Xcotts example, its more than a blowup hole if he has nearly 5 triples a round..5 +3's and 6 +2's equals a +27 thru 11 holes...thats not a blowup hole for him..there is something he is consistantly doing wrong that causes an issue on almost every hole..if he just got the triples down to doubles, he would be 5 points better...perhaps a chip closer to the hole, or a 2 put instead of a 3 put..or hit shorter, straighter long shots instead of longer, errant clubs...I would pick the easiest shot to fix and get it consistant..and knock 5 points off the score..but then I practice my swing or my chips every day for an hour or so..without practice, you never get better than +30..
  17. Xscott, Congrats on your progress...when I analyze my progress or lack of, I take my worse holes and look at it shot by shot..and try and figure out where my worse mistakes are...was it my long clubs, my approach's, or my short game...when I started doing it that way, I could see what shots were causing me the most trouble on hole...and fixed that shot..when you fix that issue, it fixes it for each of your categories and drops your score...for me, I chose to fix the short game and got one of the best teachers to show me how to chip and pitch better...when I fixed my short game, I dropped 10 shots per round..If you look at the pro's, they win or lose with the short game...most courses have 14 holes that are par-4/5..fix one part of your game to save one shot per hole, and you'll drop 10 shots on average....that approach worked for me..My short game got me from 110 to around 100..if I can get a consistant swing, I'll get to 88-90...
  18. with No swing, its a + 30 game...with a consistant decent swing, its +18 game...for me..No turn in my hips to the backside, yields never having an inside out swing..My shoulder turn is nearly 90 degrees, but without the bottom end, it just ends up being an outside in...and the big clubs slice and go right..or else pull left..some guys have it, some dont I guess...
  19. I am glad to see some of the guys are progressing..I am new to the Topic, and can attest to the Full swing being my biggest issue in breaking 90/100 areas...My short game is reasonably good, but it gets quite frustrating having to use the small clubs to salvage a double or worse hole thanks to my wonderful waste of a swing...and unfortunately I dont have fun hitting lousy golf shots with bigger clubs...so usually after 4 or 5 lousy holes, my round is done...maybe some day a swing will show up...
