Help me find a "golf" city to call home...
Philip9210 replied to d373rm1ned's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Greenville, SC There are at least 7 golf courses within 15-25 miles of where I live and about 3 within 10mins driving distance...there are alot of nice courses, and also a few cheaper courses that are still okay. Check it out! -
Ok, so i went to the range today, and finally found my grip/stance(i've only been played 3 times), here are the distances that I hit my clubs today....I know, they are short, any ideas as to how to increase the distances? (the higher number is where it would go when my slice didn't play in) Driver: 200-250 3 Wood: 175- 205 4 Hybrid- 150-165 5 Iron- 150 +-5 6 Iron- 125-140 7 Iron- 115-125 8 Iron- 110-115 9 Iron-100- 115 PW:75-95(hit one well that went about 135-150 :X ) These are the farthest i can hit them also Thanks!

"Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" by Ben Hogan
Philip9210 replied to iacas's topic in Reading Room
Love this Book!!! I have played three rounds of golf, and everytime i hit the ball, i skip it, or top it etc... I bought this book YESTERDAY!!! read over the grip and posture section and practiced exactly as he writes, for an hour or two, went out to the range, and i was amazed, i was hitting the ball in the air with my irons, distance isn't quite there yet, but i could hit the ball w/ LOFT!!! I have a bit of a slice, and will adjust my grip accordingly, but will recap the grip and posture section and then move onto the next sections, but this book has gained my complete confidence! Looking foward to reaping the benefits of the Five Lessons. -

Just started reading htis book, and already, my grip needs a major overhaul...but seeing as he battled a hook, how would i change my grip to battle a slice? or would i just do it as in the book? -
Ok, I am a beginner, having played only three times on course. But my question is, to get better which should I do, play once or twice a week, or spend the money on lessons/driving range/learning material. Currently I am in high school, working a little summer job so the cash flow isn't the greatest. I enjoy going out and playing, but it gets frustrating hitting worm burners and slices 24/7....any advice as to what i should do? Thanks!

NICE!!! I have been looking around for lessons, but am having to hold off because I am not ready to invest enough money into the sport yet :D have fun and learn alot!

Ok, so today i shot a 128 give or take a few, which is 11 strokes better than last time, so the good news is i'm improving, however i still have a nasty slice on my driver, and can't seem to get under the ball with my irons. i am going to need to hit up the driving range, are there any exercises i can do to get under my irons instead of topping them and hitting worm burners? Thanks guys/gals!

Ok, my swing speed isn't the fastest, but also isn't super slow, i am not worried about spin yet, seeing as i am just working on hitting the ball solidly and making it go. i have been playing FuZZ and top flite, but they are beginning to not get the job done, which golf balls should i look into? gonna prolly buy a few sleeves of each and try them out. Thanks!

Ok, today was our church tourney captain's choice thingy, first 4 holes, my drives were really good, bout 200-225 middle of the fairway. However, my iron game is bad. I hit all my irons about the same distance lol, about 50-70yds. Any advice as how to hit those farther w/o getting out of tempo? I played wiht a guy from my church that really helped me get loft under my irons, and he said right now just to worry about form and temp since htis was only my second time, and that i can work on distance and stuff like that later as I progress. Also, on the back 9, my drive started going flat and slicing terribly. Thanks for reading, and all advice is welcome.

We are playing here: http://www.southernoaksgc.com/sites/...595&page;=32068 This will only be my second time out on the course, but this is a relaxed tourney ,not really competitive plus its captains choice, so there is really little to no pressure, just a good time to go hang out with some guys from church and hit a few golf balls. Any advice? can be about anything, I'm pretty new to the game, and will consider all advice valuable. Thanks!

Ok, so after long debate, i decided to go with the Dunlop Attack set, it came w/ a driver, 3 wood, 4hybrid, then 5-pw and a putter. Plan on taking them out to the driving range tomorrow w/ a friend, or maybe even play a few holes w/ them. Anybody else ever use these? This is basically a thank you thread to everybody who told me what i should do as a beginner buying clubs, THanks! Price: 99$
-
what clubs should i be looking for when i go? i will probablly have around 200$ and I'm going to try to put together my set w/ that. Will that be enough,(they are used, so they will be at a discounted price)? Thanks!
-
Do they sell sets? And do they have good prices, if anyone shops there? Thanks!

Danattherock I think I am going to go with your idea. It seems more in my price range right now. I saw the Top-Flite XL set, for 200$, it only comes w/ a 6-pw, driver, fairway wood, two hybrid 4,5, and a putter, should i go w/ that or try and get a full iron set w/ it? -

-Thanks for all the input guys...as for the guy asking what kind of clubs my dad has they are "Northwestern" the driver is made of like pure wood lol, and the lamanent is falling apart, and he is missing a few irons. The putter looks like a putt-putt putter lol, but metal instead of plastic. -TO TJY: Yea, i picked up on a few holes when i was struggling because i didn't wanna hold up the twosome behind us and we let them pass us on the back nine, leaving nobody behind us. But I could hit it everytime, just kinda a slice here a slice there lol. -

Are there any sets that stand out above the rest for an entry level golfer? I played for my first time yesterday(the first time i have ever really even swung a golf club) and shot 139 but back 9 i started being only 2 or 3 over per hole. Really enjoyed it and would love to continue playing, I am 17 and am currently using my dads realllllllllyyyyy old clubs which he got like 20 years ago. ---I found these on craigslist http://greenville.craigslist.org/spo/1162115004.html is this a good deal? Thanks! -
Question about buying Clubs on Ebay..sorry I'm new
Philip9210 replied to md2002's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Having purchased other big ticket items on ebay, I would have to tell you to first make sure you check feedback, etc. Make sure you know what you are buying before you buy. If you have questions about the integrity of the seller, "you get what you pay for", has always been true for me when buying big ticket items off the web. Hope that helped some lol -
http://greenville.craigslist.org/spo/1162115004.html Found this in my area, is this a good deal? For 45$ can i really go wrong?
