  1. Thanks @mvmac, I see your point, ill give it a go. Can't go too far wrong if I aim to copy the great Jordan Spieth :)
  2. @mvmac Interesting that you should mention this, the weight is further back in my feet based on an instructor telling me that my forward head movement is caused by weight being too far forward in my feet. Maybe I am overdoing it but I try and get the weight in about the centre of my feet. I dont think my head moves so I can see the ball, instead, I get the feeling that if I don't move my head forwards then I feel too upright at the top of the backswing. I am working to reduce this though by simply acknowledging it and realising that I don't need to bend forwards. The clip below shows some progress (I think) Thanks again @iacas for your guidance :)
  3. Thanks but can u explain what is meant by less headcover in lead armpit
  4. Thanks for the input. Can suggest a drill or a feeling to make this happen
  5. In my opinon, you are too bent over at address. Also, the club gets steep quite early in the backswing. One or both of these facts may be the cause of the push as you dont have room at impact to turn the club left (instead you pull out of the shot causing the push right) I would try and feel more like you are sitting on a bar stall at address (as advocated by Hogan) and feel the club goes back in a straighter line. Then I would film the swing again and post it to see if there is an improvement. Disclaimer, I am no pro, I play off about 5 and I enjoy studying the golf swing, but this is just my opinion and may not actually help your game :0
  6. I agree with the statement above. I would say that looking at the ball for so long after impact is not good for your game, but I would be surprised if you do that when you are actually hitting a ball.
  7. lol me to, I want a good looking swing almost as much as I want an effective one ! I have watched my swing so much that I have lost a sense of how it looks to others, does a slow mo swing look unpleasant, I must admit I dont like the look of Ryan Moore or Hideki's golf swing (two players who I think have relatively slow swings) but I think this is for other reasons (very steep swing of ryan moore and pause at top for Hideki) . I dont find a slow swing feels strange as it is what I use when I practice at home (normally because I have to be careful of avoiding the lamp shades ;). I do find it very difficult to pause at the top and I dont think this is something I do in my swing, although I can do this in practice swings, on the course it feels weird - like I lose momentum. I am going up the range tonight to work on two things, firstly I want to remove the forward head movement I get on my backswing ( i only noticed this when I uploaded the video) Im thinking this cant be good for consistency, and increasing the lag, I'll post a video of the results tonight :)
  8. Hi Downbylaw11, Thanks for your comments, I'll work on the lag and see if I get an improvement in the balls striking. I have been using a slow swing for a while, all I can say is that whenever I speed it up I start losing balls left and right, I cant think of any disadvantage of playing a slow backswing, I just think it helps me maintain control.
  9. I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years total with lots of breaks in between My current handicap index or average score is: Average score is 80 My typical ball flight is: Straight - slight draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: thinned shots and hooks My golf has been getting better recently but I seem to always suffer from a few poor contacts in each round, typically this is where I hit the ball thin. I have changed my swing so much over the years but this has always been my bad shot and I dont know what causes it. With the driver and hybrid my bad shots are hooks, this results in me normally going out of bounds at least once per round. I have spent a lot of time on trying to shallow my swing plane, and getting into a good position at the top. Videos:
  10. Hi all, Has anyone tried the Bebrassie golf app? Apparently it tracks your round and knows when and where you take each shot from. I wondered if anyone has tried this and if it is any good. What are the best golf apps that everyone has used, there seem to be a lot these days which are multi functional ie not just giving you a distance reading but are actually tracking your round stats. I have been using the game golf app recently, its good but a bit annoying to have to input the club you are using at each shot.
  11. I am aware of these but you have to pay for them and I dont see the point when you can do it yourself. I know there is a free version of game golf but as far as I am aware you cannot save your rounds unless you pay for it
  12. That's cool, would it be possible to upload a copy of the blank spreadsheet with formulas , would be really helpful to share :)
  13. Just read through you post and it looks really great ! More comprehensive than my system. Do you have a spread sheet where you type in the details you made during the round and it calculates the stats for you? I imagine it takes quite some time to do it manually each time
  14. Hi all, Just wondering how people go about tracking the stats from golf rounds and practice sessions. I count how many shots over par I am on each hole, and then make a note of the main reason why I went over par, ie bad drive, bad short putt, bad mid iron. When I get home I put it all on a spreadsheet and which ever category cost me the most shots is what I work on until my next games. Does anyone else a system they like to work with ?
  15. Can someone please explain the difference between rolling the wrists and forearm rotation! I am having lessons at the moment and I have been told that I roll my wrists in the backswing which is a problem, I have also been told this by previous coaches and read it in numerous articles. In contrast forearm rotation seems to be a fairly uncontroversial part of the golfers backswing. Is it possible to roll the wrists without rotating the forearms, I dont see how, therefore I can only conclude they mean the same thing. If I take the instruction literally and do not roll my wrists at all in the backswing then the position at the top feels very strange and i'm sure it cant be correct, the club is basically vertical ! Has anyone else been told they should avoid rolling the wrists in the backswing? is this good advice?
  16. So when you say "under plane" you consider the plane as the line which runs from the clubhead through the sternum, not the line up the clubshaft
  17. I cant upload a video but here are some photos. At address I have drawn the two lines, by the top of the backswing my clubhead is on the higher line where it remains on the downswing, only at impact it has returned to the orginal position
  18. For a long time I have recorded my golf swing and been unhappy with the result. I always draw a line that runs from the hosel, up the club shaft and through my back. I always have felt that the correct swing would have the clubhead going up this line on the backswing and at transition return to the line quickly and remain there all the way to impact. However, whenever I get close to achieving this I have to re route my hands so much that all hell breaks lose. My natural swing sees my clubhead tracing the line at the start of the backswing but at the top of the backswing I am above the line. On the down swing my shaft remains parallel to the line but above it. I was wondering if this is acceptable, Maybe I have always been drawing the line in the wrong place, I have recently read the line should go from the ball to the sternum, if this is right my clubhead is slightly below that on the downswing. Please put me out my misery !
  19. My feeling is that keeping loose wrists is important to maximize wrist hinge on the DOWNSWING. This was explained in the impact zone book, when your arms start to drop, if you keep loose wrists then you will increase the wrist hinge and lag, for me this led to powerful strikes, increased my distance and I think would eliminate casting.
  20. Yeah, I can see how that would make sense. I think that the danger lies in trying to incorporate wrist hinge late in the back swing, that is when it gets out of control, by doing it early it is out the way and you dont have to worry about it at the top of the swing. My only problem with doing it early in the swing is that I tend to struggle to stay on plane as the wrist hinge feels like it can be done at various speeds and angles which all give slightly different outcomes.
  21. Exactly my point Ernest, it feels like my arms are dead straight and there is little/no wrist hinge, but when I look at the video the wrist hinge is perfect..... just another example of the difference between what we feel and what we do which makes golf such a perplexing game
  22. If you are coming into the the ball with an open club face obviously rotating the wrists will close it and prevent them going left. However, this does not address the underlying cause of the problem and therefore will make your results inconsistent as you are relying on balancing two factors in each swing (how much you leave the club open and then how much you close it again). You are much better off trying to understand what causes the shots to go right in the first place and preventing this fault from taking place. In my experience it is because hips become too disconnected from the body in the transition. Eliminating this disassociation is helpful and is related to maintaining a good tempo. But would need to see the swing to see if this would apply to you.
  23. I was just reading the little red book and the wrist hinge was mentioned as something that should not be sought but allowed to happen naturally. I tried to do this myself, I took the club back on plane and just let my arms and body continue to rotate without actively hinging my wrists. I am pleased to report that the overswing I have been fighting for years has gone and my club head now sits perfectly square to as the top of the back swing ! I now think that actively hinging the wrists is a bit of a red herring, it will occur naturally when you make a back swing but if you try and force it, what feels like good wrist hinge is actually you losing control of the club. Anyone have any views on this?
