  1. My bro and I got an old driver head and welded two shafts together to make a driver that was about 8 feet long. The driver head just said "PROBE" on the bottom... So, the legacy has always been referred to as "The Probe". It was hilarious to swing, but if you got a hold of it somehow, you could actually launch it pretty well. It was funny to see my little bro (about 12 yrs old at the time, and a whopping 60 pounds) walking down the fairway with this antenna rod sticking out of his bag.
  2. Ping G15 9º on ebay, if that counts.
  3. try widening your stance a bit with your driver. seems kind of narrow.
  4. Well damn, now I'm more confused I wish they would have had a 909 to demo last night so I could hit them side by side. But i know of another store that does. What are people's opinions of the forgiveness of the Ping vs Titleist? From discussions, it seems that the Ping has a more forgiving head? Right now I'm playing the 909F2, which i love. But at the same time, I know that driver vs. 3-wood is a completely unfair comparison and they can differ within the same brand.
  5. went and hit some drivers tonight. still confused, dammit. i ruled out the Callaway FT Tour. Ball flight wasn't as appealing to me, and had a tendency to fade (which is a characteristic of the club). although, i DID demo a Ping G15, and liked it a lot. Unfortunately they didn't have any 909's to test against them. They whittled away their inventory to make room for the 910 release next month (which makes the eventual price of a 909 pretty tempting). So as of now, i'm debating: Titleist 909D2 vs. Ping G15 If I go with the Ping, I might have to find one with an upgraded stiffer shaft due to my swing speed (according to general discussion with dude in the store). On the fitting machine over the weekend, swing averaged around 106mph. I know both drivers have pretty passionate fans, so I'm interested to see what people think.
  6. Looking for a new driver, and I've currently narrowed it down to three options: Titleist 909D2, Callaway FT Tour, Taylormade R9 460 Have tried out all three and bomb them all. Tried them on 3 separate occasions though, and am going to compare them side by side this week. Any opinions on them / opinions of them compared to each other? Side note to the R9: I don't really care about the adjustability of the club, I just hit it well. So that's not something I consider a plus or minus compared to the other two.
  7. I've only hit them at a demo day, but they were really solid. I would consider these myself if looking for new irons.
  8. Do you turn off WiFi when you play? Turn it off completely and it will help conserve battery, bc the phone won't constantly be looking for a wifi connection and it will stick with 3G. You may already do that, but figured i'd throw it out there bc a lot of my friends hadn't heard of that feature.
  9. Yep, Puetz. The Seattle location on north Aurora.
  10. Agreed. My 60.08 Vokey is perfect for flops. In fact, I flopped one straight up in the air this weekend. The back of the green had a severe drop off that was about 30 feet, and I was about 15yards from the green. Stuck it about 3 feet from the hole. Raining golf balls straight out of the sky. I love the flop.
  11. I can't wait for these to come out so I can snatch up a 909D2 on sale. I just got a 909F2 and I'm bombing that f**ker like there's no tomorrow. I ripped a 275 yard drive with it yesterday. A 3-wood + 5-iron into a par 5. Can't ask for much more. Whoever said that the F2 is difficult to hit off the tee must have been doing something wrong. Whew buddy!
  12. One of my local golf shops has their entire line of PING Redwood putters on sale for 50% off. Basically at a cost of $130. I'm assuming (knowing PING) that this is more than likely a Ping brand sale, and not an independent sale from this store. I don't know anything about this line other than putting on the carpet in the store, but I've heard a lot of people like them. If you're in the market for a new putter, might want to check out your local store and see if the same sale is happening. Anyone else notice these on sale? Hard to pass up a PING Redwood Anser for $130 when a PING Karsten Anser costs almost $100
  13. I agree with you. I have a feeling it'd be a big sales pitch. I just don't know of any good pro's around here (personal recommendations, solid reputations, etc) to get a lesson from, so thought it might be an interesting thing to try. The more I've read though, the more I imagine I'd feel like I was at a car dealership or something.
  14. One technique I've grown accustomed to with long lag putts is to stand near the ball and do a few practice strokes while looking at the hole the entire time. Your mind can unconsciously control the strength of swing by using the distance as a visual. Get an idea of how the strength of that stroke feels. Also, visually imagine rolling a ball with your hand, and how hard you have to roll it for that distance. Translate that to your stroke. And, the old cliche: Practice. Practice. Practice. No one likes to practice on the putting green. But it works. About 6 months ago I injured my finger and had it in a splint for about 6 weeks, and was unable to swing a club for about 9 weeks total. That entire time, all I could do was simply practice putting. And after a while, I had never putted better in my entire life. I figured things out I had never learned before, and have continued to translate that to my game now. My putting... which was ALWAYS the worst aspect of my game... is now one of the best of my game.
  15. Today's local GroupOn coupon is for a 30-minute session at Golftec for $40. Is it worth it to go in there for 30 minutes and not sign up for lessons? Or are they just going to spend 30 minutes doing some sort of lame introduction to the golf swing, not really analyze much, and then put the sales pitch on me...
  16. Recently just got a Titleist 909F2, and about 90% of my shots with it are going fairly hard left. Usually it starts left (like a pull) and just keeps hooking left. Even when it starts straight, it has a fairly pronounced draw to it. Took it out to the range today, and every club i hit, I was stroking it right down the middle. Every iron plus my driver. The 3 wood? Left every time (off the ground and the tee). I even had my old Callaway Warbird in my bag for kicks, and I tried it out and it stroked down the middle too. The 909F2 has a stock Voodoo stiff shaft in it. Are these clubs known to have a tendency to hook a LOT? Or do you think it's a shaft issue? I have the same shaft in a 909H 19-degree hybrid, and don't have the hook problem with it (unless it's a direct mishit). Really curious about this... and whether I should look into a new shaft, or a new club entirely. or could it just be an issue with my swing and just overswinging a new club out of excitement?
  17. I have 2 putters that are pretty different, so I can use either depending on how I'm feeling. I played a PING C67 35" for a while, and recently switched over to a PING Karsten Anser 34" ... I realized that 35" was too long for me, and 34" is perfect. I can still use the 35, and if i'm ever in the need for a center-shafted putter I can switch back. For now though, loving the Anser... tough to beat.
  18. I put a pool cue in my bag too, just in case it's windy while putting and i'm having trouble standing still on the green.
  19. True. I just bought a Titleist 909 F2 3-wood that is in mint condition, and just threw out an offer that I was for sure would be laughed at. But the guy took it. He runs a shop, and probably got the club for dirt cheap from Titleist.
  20. i wouldn't think there is any difference at all. probably just a way for Titleist to keep track of their products , vendors, and where certain clubs are coming/going if a problem arises
  21. ahhhh, interesting. Yeah, it's usually the small details that are dead giveaways. Good to know about the bags, I didn't know that one.
  22. Yeah, he's solid. Can't see the fake AP2s since the auction was removed, but what made them visibly obvious? Never seen fake ones before.
  23. Yeah good point. Absolutely no need to go out and drop a small fortune on woods/metals right now. Just start off with something used from ebay or reputable site.
  24. I would suggest a 3-wood as a beginner. Drivers are a double-edged sword... they're fun to hit, but hard to hit correctly. The 3-wood will give you a little more loft as a beginner, which means you'll get it up in the air easier, plus you can be more consistent with them. Once you get your swing down, and get really good with your 3-wood, then you can consider drivers. You're not at the point where a driver and a 3-wood will be a huge difference in distance, and a driver will just make you frustrated. I didn't play with a driver for about the first 5-6 years of playing golf. I got to wear I could hit my 3-wood about 280yds off the tee, and didn't have a need. It's still my go-to club when I just want to feel comfortable over the ball. Just my two cents. PS. I tried to give a friend this same advice. He was in the exact same boat as you. He's hard-headed and didn't listen... plopped down about $300 for a driver, and now doesn't want to ever play again bc he can't hit it. Funny.
  25. Landed a Titleist 909F2 15.5º off eBay for $115. Only hit twice on the range, practically brand new. Still had the original packaging from Titleist (guess he didn't like it). Solid steal if you ask me. Can't wait to rip it off the deck.
