I had read Matt's post. I am not getting into it point by point other that repeating that there was no rules violation from the persecutive of the officials. So we agree no rules violation. If the integrity of the player as seen by his peers has no importance then there is not much left that has not been said. I take your point that the players may exaggerate, I am not asking anyone to take their words as gospel. "99%" is a bit much. I think the main idea of my pointing out that upon inspecting his lie Reed said "not my decision" is that statement tells me the lie was not a clear cut situation. Meanwhile Rory said his ball was clearly embedded. If you take Rory at his word - and you don't have to! - that makes for a distinction between the two situations. Also Rory was in a low lying area while Reed was not.
-
to add, Lanto Griffin said tough to put us (PGA pros) in a position to call him out because we we're there but "99% of us out here if it's in question one way or the other they're going to go the other way, not taking the drop....its tough to see, it's sad...Kind of pisses us off."

Just saw a Rory video. Rory says his ball was certainly embedded, it was clear to him and "on my life that ball was in its own pitch mark." He also says he would rather be on the wrong (disadvantageous) side of a ruling in an unclear situation. I think we find golfers of at least two minds there. The Rory school: don't take unfair advantage. The other school is to always take the more favorable ruling. Call it the Phil school? I certainly have friends in both schools. I see Reed as finding an unclear situation and taking advantage of it. That is within the rules. The rules rely on the integrity of the player. In no way are the officials at fault and there is no rules violation from their perspective. The part about involving a rules official and claiming the rules official decided was baloney because Reed had removed the ball from the lie. Reed gets to his ball and finds an unclear lie. He says "not my decision." Well in fact it was his decision. He decided. The rule official did not decide. The official tried to be involved as little as possible. Reed tells the official it's an embedded ball, please "check." How was the official supposed to do that?

USGA says: The Rules generally rely on the integrity of the player. In other relief situations, including when a ball may be lifted and played from a different place, players are allowed to proceed under the Rules without being required to involve another person in any part of the process. It's impossible to prove a breach of rules here. And so when the official was asked to rule on whether the ball was embedded, he could not. The evidence had been tampered with before he got there. The official was left to rely on the integrity of the player, it was all he could do. The rest of what Reed did was just a charade. He contradicted himself so many times afterwards.

Not sure if you can offend anyone by criticizing Billy Casper Golf. It is exciting though. -
Cobbs Creek Restoration Project to Begin

You've got the right hole. Currently its a bit narrow through the trees but nothing overhanging. -
Cobbs Creek in Philadelphia is closing on October 31 for a 2 year restoration project. It's a historic course and you can read all about its golf history and architecture and falling on tough times story via the Cobbs Creek Foundation. Anyone who has ever played it should find the proposed routing back to the original version fascinating. Hole #6 in particular. I played it yesterday and hope to get another round in before it closes. They are to the walking-only point, which I would do anyway. Possibly the best hole, #3 lost its green to a storm this summer (pictured). The course has always been a little rough around the edges, well, since 1977 for me at least. Now, Gil Hanse is on the job. Let's see what he does. Course – Cobbs Creek Foundation Cobbs Creek Golf Course to close for renovations until 2023 For Philadelphians who love the public course's tight-knit community, affordability, and convenient location, the renovation is a double-edged sword.

Here's my TFCC update for anyone who comes along looking for TFCC info. My injury occurred in May 2019 and I stopped golfing in August 2019. Right hand, right handed golfer. There were two tears in the TFCC per MRI and the ECU sheath was stressed as a result. There was also some general tendonitis in other areas, mostly due to immobilizing the joint for a while (which did not help). Long story short after months of physical therapy.... I came across another guy in March 2020 with a TFCC injury and he thought my injury was going to improve but I wouldn't be able to golf. I said that's just going to make me work harder. After 9 months of no golf, I played my first round on May 1. That's the same day courses reopened from covid around here. I was not ready to play before that anyway. I played 13 rounds in May and 15 rounds in June. I did not spend any time on the practice range. Aside from warm up swings, I mostly went to the first tee and took as few swings as possible. Thats the goal anyway, right? My handicap went up a couple of strokes and I frequently came out of shots and hit thin shots. But for the most part no setbacks to the injury and the wrist continued to improve as I returned to play. I continue to stretch and use light weights, therabands and the like. Thats the most important thing for my case: stick with the PT. Around late June I probably did overdo it a bit with some range time and found some tendonitis on the palm side. On the flexor carpal ulnas. (FCU). Treated that with both ice and heat and after a couple weeks the FCU is feeling better. Now its July and I have 11 rounds in so far this month. I'm hitting the ball more solidly now for the most part and hoping to get my handicap back to where it was.

I've posted info on all the covid accommodations that we've set up for competitive golf events in the Philadelphia area. Anyone local to the area is very welcome to check us out. We've been delayed about a month but can now get golfing again! 2020 Reopening – Golf Tour of Greater Philadelphia- 962 replies

Is Golf Available Where You Live? (COVID-19 Edition)

We are trying to decide if we will be holding competitive events under these conditions. The two players per tee time limit is a little bit of a shocker. NJ Governor's Order Beginning at sunrise on Saturday, May 2, golf courses can re-open, so long as they adopt minimum social distancing policies that include: Implementing electronic or telephone reservation and payment systems while still providing options for populations that do not have access to internet service or credit cards; Extending tee times to sixteen minutes apart; Limiting the use of golf carts to one person unless being shared by immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners; Requiring frequent, and after each use, sanitization of high-touch areas such as restroom facilities, range buckets, golf carts, and push carts; • Restricting the touching of golf holes and flags; Closing golf center buildings, pro shops, and other buildings and amenities; Removing bunker rakes and other furniture-like benches, water coolers, and ball washers from the course; • Discontinuing club and equipment rentals; Prohibiting the use of caddies; Limiting tee times to two players unless the foursome consists of immediate family, caretakers, household members or romantic partners; and Requiring players to always maintain appropriate social distancing by remaining six feet apart from others. Golf courses may impose additional restrictions as necessary to limit person-to-person interactions. Employees, players, and other individuals on the golf course are encouraged to wear cloth face coverings while on the golf course. Miniature golf courses and driving ranges must remain closed. Hello, I'm joining in here and have two things in particular that I may be posting about as we go along. 1. My return to golf from a TFCC injury in May 2019. Sidelined from golf since July 2019. Still rehabbing for now. 2. I help run a public league in the Philadelphia area and I'd like to build the membership up some more in 2020. So I'm reaching out about that. Details to follow. Thanks, Tony McCarthy
