  1. This is what I tell everyone I ever meet that is beginning to play golf. Get a lesson or set of lessons from a Pro who can put your swing on camera for you to see and then illustrate the things he wants to do to your swing so you have a better visualization of what you need to do. It takes all the guess work out of it, it puts you down the correct path sooner, and to be honest, 99.9% of great golfers get or have gotten many lessons to help them achieve greatness. Very few golfers can self teach themselves to scratch golf. Get lessons and speed up your progress.
  2. What clubs did you already have in your bag if you had 14 and are now adding typically standard clubs (like a 4 iron)? 5 wedges? 2 putters? 2 drivers?
  3. I only got 15 holes in before it got dark. I was even through 15 tho.

    Great shot today

LOL how'd you try and go at it in 2? It looked like from the GPS that the fairway ended at like 319 from the tips and the hole is like 573. That's quite a long second shot that you have to bend around the trees and carry over that gorge. I just said forget it, I'm laying up and hit 2 iron off the tee then laid up to like 150 out or so. That would have been a hell of a par 5 to reach in 2. The 3rd hole is less impressive to reach in 2 :P
  5. Chances are if he has the credentials you mentioned then it will be worth it. When I changed instructors to a more expensive but very talented one it took my game to a whole new level. The right instructor could mean amazing improvements in your game.
  6. Was on the par 5 3rd hole at Callippe GC in Pleasanton, CA playing w/ my dad. I hit my drive off the heel a tad so I had 273 yards left for my second shot up the hill. I could barely see the top of the flag stick. I took out my 3 wood and gave it a rip. I pure'd a butter draw up there. Flew it on the green from 273 and ended up 25 ft for eagle. I 2 putted for birdie but that 3 wood shot was so solid.
  7. That is so nuts. Of course those mess around shots you hit for fun end up being some of the best shots ever in golf.
  8. If you are getting new clubs you definitely want to get fitted for them. And because of this, I'd say get lessons first. Depending on how much of a swing change you end up making after your lessons you might be on a completely different swing plane which could change the lie of the club you need. I would get the lessons first, get your swing down to where you want it to be (for the most part) then get fitted for clubs. When you get your new clubs down the road they will be made to fit your current swing, not your old swing. Just my 2 cents.
  9. Yup, I've told some friends that are new to golf about the 2 double eagles and no hole-in-ones and they don't really get it. They say wow you've never had a hole-in-one? Never, wow you've made a 2 on a par 5 twice?! Sigh, sometimes you just can't do anything about it.
  10. It's a toss up between the driver and 2-iron. The driver is hard to hit consistently in the fairway lately but the 2-iron off the ground is tough to catch flush every time and hit it straight.
  11. 2nd shot on the par 5 18th at Ruby Hills CC. 251 yards over water, flew it on the green to 35ft for eagle. That 3 wood shot only rolled 4 ft from its divot. The par 5 is 602 yards from the tips and pretty severely downhill on the tee shot but fairly level on the approach.
  12. I played golf (hitting balls or on the course) for 6-7 days a week from when I was 11 til 22. I took a few years off and only played once or twice a year the last couple years for fun w/ friends from work. This year I got the golf bug again and I just started back up. I'm going to play every weekend and hit balls several days during the week. I joined this site to get caught up on new equipment out there and get to talkin bout golf!! I'm excited for 2010

    Eagles?

I know what you mean. In HS lol our home course for my Sophomore year was a 9-hole miniature course it was like a par 30 lol. 6 par 3s and 3 par 4s. The longest par 4 was 350, one was 240. Lot of eagles on that 240 one which should have been birdies on a tough par 3 but it was a match so it counted as an eagle. Pretty lame but oh well
  14. New to this site but I wanted to say that I've had 2 double eagles and no hole-in-ones. One was on the par 5 4th hole at The Bridges GC in San Ramon with a 2 iron from 235ish. We were playing skins with our 4some and it was during our junior college golf team qualifying so it was somewhat intense. I holed out my 2nd shot and then my buddy put his 2nd shot to 6 inches. He lost the hole and 3 skins with an eagle. That one always makes me chuckle. The other double eagle was during a college tournament on the shortish par 5 6th at the Metropolitan GC in Oakland with a 7 iron for my second shot from like 190 (it was down wind). The hole was tucked behind a mound and the shot landed behind the mound but looked pretty online with the flag from my veiw point. When I got up to the green I saw my divot 15 ft short of the hole but no ball. I thought I landed on the downslope and kicked over the green into the trees behind it. I glanced at the hole as I walked by the cup towards the trees and my ball was sitting in there. I went nuts! Although it only took me back to even par on the day after a double and a bogey earlier lol.
  15. I recently got my swing plane flatter and I play a draw now. With my old, more upright swing, I played a fade however a pull hook was pretty common when I got over the top of it.
  16. I have a very high ball flight with my driver which I'm actually looking at changing with a new driver/shaft but I measure my flight because my divot is usually right next to my ball. Depending on the wind, downhill/uphill/flat, etc. I fly it roughly 280-300. I'm hoping by switching to the Titleist 909 D3 with the Fujikura Rombax 7Z08 shaft I'll be able to tame my ball flight to a lot lower trajectory and get more roll out of my tee shots. Flying the ball that far is great for the winter because there's no roll really anyways but for summer golf I get caught by shorter players when they get on some hard fairways and get a lot more roll than me.
  17. I fly my 6-iron 185-190 yards usually. I play Cleveland TA-2s with X100 shafts.
