I just got back in the game after a long layoff. I was a 10 hdcp when I quit (was taking the game way to serious) and sold all my clubs with the exception of my putter. I started playing again almost 2 months ago when I bought some used clubs.
The first thing that needs to go are the irons. I am sure the Ping i3's were great in their day, but I need some newer technology. I used to play TM R7's and I was able to hit a 7 iron 160 to 165 yards consistently. With this old Ping set, I am having trouble with my ball striking and even when I think I hit it well, I am having trouble getting the 7 iron to go 140. I need an iron that will help me use less club for my approach shots and par 3's. My last round I was using my Rescue for any shot from 180 to 135 because I have zero confidence with these i3's. Believe it or not, the results were pretty good lol.
I need to get a "game improvement" set as I do not have much time to practice. I hate the range anyway.....would rather play....
. I have narrowed it down to 3 choices.
1. Cobra S9
2. Taylormade Burner
3. Ping G15
I have demoed these clubs off a mat into a net at Golfsmith, but that has not helped me make a choice. The Cobra's are the cheapest and seem to be a good solid club. I have a Cobra driver and it has been the best one I have ever owned. The PING's are the most expensive
, but felt awesome. The Burner's feel good too and are in the middle price range wise. I didn't have any trouble getting any of them up in the air.
Anyone who has any experience with playing these irons mentioned and could give me some input would truly be appreciated.
Thanks
