  1. Is the argument that she is taking a spot from a guy trying to earn a living? or She isn't competitive? You get the opportunity to use hindsight. If she's competitive, it's OK, but if she isn't, it's not? If Wie makes the cut, by definition, isn't she competitive?
  2. Respect? That's a different argument. The argument has been, "She has no chance in winning. She's taking away a spot that should go to someone trying to make a living." I say that Arnie and Jack were doing the same thing.
  3. Where were the complaints when Duval got an exemption to play the BellSouth while he was a GA Tech student? As far as publicity is concerned, the greater the amount of interest in a particular tournament, the greater the purse. What if the event decides to give the slot to one of the players of the Asain tour? That same bottom of the barrel PGA tour player still doesn't get in. What you are saying is Jack or Arnie shouldn't have played a PGA Tour event for the past 15+ years because we know they had no shot.
  4. I don't see why this is such a big deal. The exemptions are for anyone the sponsor wants to have play who is a scratch golfer. That can be a college kid (David Duval at the BellSouth), a club pro or Michele Wie.
  5. I had a mixed bag. The woods were just that and "hitting it off the screws" meant something. It was so bad, I had a "Lady Thompson" 3-iron. I hit the crap out of that blade. My brother gave me a TaylorMate TPA VII putter for X-mas. My Uncle got me a set of clubs my senior year. I never had a lesson but ended up shooting in the low 80s. I miss the golf in those days. I grew up on Long Island. Eisenhower Park with its 3 couses was 15 minutes away. Bethpage and its 5 courses was 10 minutes away. It was $12 to play 4 of them. The Black was a premium, $14. $1.50 for a pull cart. No tee times back then. There were other county parks that had executive courses. The clubs stayed in the car because I was always looking to get out. I moved here 16 years ago. I stopped playing because it was so expensive. I'm now getting back into it. I just replaced that 23 year old set with my current clubs. I still use the putter. I'm starting to get a little bit of distance in my drive. I hit a couple about 270 the other day. I'm a straight hitter. I'm beginning to learn how far I hit the ball with these new clubs. I never had a set of wedges. My old set had a P and S. I shot an 89 the other day. 39 on the back. It's all coming back to me now. Golf is still expensive so I won't play as much as I'd like.(do we ever?) There's a little course near me that I could join to help keep the costs down. Maybe next year.
  6. No need to run. Just wait until she walks down the aisle. When it comes time to say the vows, say, "You know what? I just can't do this." Then walk away.
  7. Unfortunately, I don't have a home course. In addition, I can't get out at 3:30. I'm basically forced to play on the weekends.
  8. I've played more this year than in the past 5 and my swing is starting to come back. The one thing I hate about being a single is not knowing when you'll go out. I showed up at the course on Sunday, dropped my bag off, parked the car and when I got back, the starter said he was holding up a 3some on the first tee. Run in and pay. I didn't get loose and shot a 50 on the front. The 39 on the back made me feel so much better.
  9. I got hit into on Sunday. We waited on every shot and the twosome behind us was impatient. The carts have a GPS system. You can see the other carts on the hole with the distance to them. There is no reason to hit into someone at that point.
  10. I just bought new clubs. They're TaylorMade.
  11. Stay. It's supposed to be 18 tomorrow and Sunday with 36 on Monday. If it's raining here, it's raining in Augusta. As a matter of fact, it rains there AFTER it rains here. The storms move West to East. Now, if they push the BellSouth to Tuesday, that's a different story. FYI, It's raining pretty hard at 10PM
  12. It hasn't rained for a few hours. It's supposed rain some more but be OK tomorrow. It'll be very windy. Gusts up to 40 MPH. It'll be fun at Sugarloaf.
  13. Thanks. I'm more blessed than that. We took complete advantage of the tax laws this year and she insisted I take some of the money to replace my 23 year old clubs.
  14. I just found this place and decided to register. I don't play much, but, my wife wants me to get out there more. Who am I to argue? Looking forward to conversing.
  15. I know this is an old thread but I just got here. Did you read the whole article? It says: "Understand, this is only true of clubs lofted at 20 degrees or under." and "At higher lofts, such as over 40 degrees, the nature of the contact period changes. The ball experiences only the first stage of contact, except this time the increased loft means that the ball never sticks to the club face. Instead, it only experiences a sliding up the club surface. This means that the downward frictional force exerted on the ball is proportional to the surface roughness; a rougher club face creates a larger downward force, resulting in increased backspin."
