  1. The shop that sells them stands behind the product. They have a 90 day gurantee and 1 year warrantee. Infact, part of their clone process is that they'll measure me, put me on the monitor and build the set....let me play a few rounds and in 60 days come back and give them some feedback. At that point, free of charge, they will make any adjustments or shaft changes or swap-out the #3/#4 irons for hybrids if I choose. These were for x-18 k/o at 1/3 of the cost of the real club. At Golfsmith, what do I get? A set of factory made clubs for more than double the price and if I don't like them?...tough s#!t, you have 90 days to return them for a higher priced item. Any adjustments, pull out your wallet and pay-up....yea, real nice....and what was their warranty again?
  2. This is exactly what my "name-brand" starter clubs feel like. Sometimes it feels like I just hit a granite boulder. I think I'm still going to take a hard look at knock-offs. There are good-quality knock-offs and there are some pretty bad ones and even counterfiet ones. The k/o that I found are hard to belive in look and feel. for my handicap, a k/o is goining to play 99.9% the same as the real McCoy. Additionally, I get to choose the shaft..so in essence, i can get a far supperior set to that of a name brand, who for some, skimp on the shaft they often factory install.
  3. I'm a begginer golfer and when I learned to hit a hybrid, I put my fairway woods back in the garage. Being a begginer, I'm always in the rough. With a bit of focus, I can hit it out of some pretty bad rough at least 170yrds with my 21 deg 3-hybrid....and I'm a newbie playing since July with $100 starter set. My next game-imporvement set will definetly have a #3 and #4 hyb in place of a 3 and 4 iron.
  4. Let me clarify. My friend who is a a ridiculously low handicapper can drive the ball 290+ yards. My ball flies about the same height (maybe a bit higher) but with far less distance than his. My 3-wood flies about the same height and about 20 yards less, 5-wood the same and about 170 - 180yds....3-hybrid 21 deg flies 1/2 the driver height and anout 180yds (3-hyb is steel shafted)
  5. I had my speed measured , but it wasn't one of those fancy swing monitors like you see at Golfsmith. It was more like a rectangular box that sat behind me and piomted at the ball/club impact area. I swung a 3-wood and tried to mimic it as a driver. I was read at 88 - 93 mph head speed. With my starter-set clubs (Armour RAM G-Force) I can muster about 210 - 220 yards with the 420cc 10.5 deg driver that came with it....but inconsistently. The only semi-consistant traight is ball flight that curves right. Sometimes I pull it to the left when I turn my upper body too soon, but with a bit of focus, I can straighten it out. Ball flight is real high primarily because I set-up with the ball even with my front foot. Ball placemet on my heel or further tends to make me hit the ground before I strike the ball, or hit both at the same time. However, I understand that flex and material quality of my starter set is far below that of name-brand equipment. I can hit my friends name-brand driver (T/M R580) 220 with better consistencey and less effort. So my starter set (shaft) is a bit suspicious.
  6. great...sounds perfect for me!
  7. Poppy ridge is not to far from me...maybe 20minutes drive. Home Course is San Ramon Royal Vista. I usually play local courses: Los Positas, Dublin Ranch, Canyon Lakes, Willow Park
  8. Is there a good primer or FAQ on shafts? I'm looking to build a set online (money issue) and am confused by all the different shafts types and mfg out there. Harrisson, Gaphalloy, TrueTemper, UST, Mitsubishi, Aldila..ect....what's junk, what's not. As I understand it for high handicappers, shaft selection has more benefit that head choice. So I'd like to spend the extra money for a shaft that will benefit my goal to improve. For reference, I'd like: Iron = steel shafts Hybrid = graphite or steel (leaning towords graphite) Driver/Woods = Graphite
  9. For all of the nay-sayers about knock-offs, have you tried them? Just want to hear your personal experiences why ther are "so bad" .
  10. First golf forum here.... I'm a new golfer, just this summer and I'm hooked. This is a real addictive sport. I've already joined the NCGA and trying to calculate an "official" hadicap...so far about 22. Now, the challange is to improve by 10 strokes by this time next year.
