1. Practiced the full swing and takeaway for 20 minutes.
2. 30 minutes on my simulator working on the position at the top
3. Ugh. Took a step back today. Back to working on the takeaway. Spent 30 minutes at the range do the ball pushback drill
4. Hit 30 balls at the range working on weight shift. I've been doing center pivot for so long that the weight shift is really hard for me. I'll get through this!
5. This is my 2nd entry for today, but I had a bit of a mini breakthrough on the range this evening and had to post. That moment when you realize that one simple thing is causing most of your misfits. Man I love golf.
6. Hit 60 balls at the range today. Working on getting through the ball better. Swing changes are tough.
7. Went to the range and hit about 30 balls. Took about an hour. Feel like I'm getting in the right position at the top, but the transition isn't right. Focused on that during the session today.
8. 30 balls at the range at lunch (about an hour). - starting to get the feel of what that weight shift in the takeaway feels like. Hit more good than bad today.
9. I'm late to the party so won't be eligible, but I want to play anyway. 7/1 - worked on a grip change. Traditionally had a very strong grip in the fingers. Moving to a grip that is more neutral and in the left Palm. 7/2 - worked on getting the takeaway on the toe line. Played terribly with my new grip and awkward swing 7/3 - worked more on the takeaway and half swing. Started making decent contact occasionally 7/4 - more practice to groove the grip and takeaway changes. Still feel awkward, but hit more good than bad today 7/5 - hit 90 balls at the range and played 9 7/6 - went and got a lesson from a local pro. First lesson in years, but realized these swing changes aren't going to be easy on my own. Worked on takeaway and weight shift. Realized I have never really gotten good weight shift on the back swing.
10. I ended up buying the Arccos system last week. I couldn't pass it up for $279. I had some issues with the battery that came with the unit dying after 1 round, but I replaced those batteries and have played another 36 holes with no issues. So far I'm digging it. It's pretty damn cool to be able to go back through a round, hole by hole, and see where you lost shots. The analysis of where I'm losing strokes is pretty interesting. I thought I was missing most of my shots to the left on approaches, but I'm actually missing 72% short. So I definitely need to start taking more club. I also thought my chipping was holding me back, but I'm actually chipping a lot better than my handicap. My drives and approaches are killing me. Those that have said it's mostly not intrusive, are kind of wrong though. I find myself being far more delicate with the clubs, laying them softly on the ground instead of just chucking them to the side. Carrying the clubs upside down isn't that big of a deal though. I also find that I'm less inclined to go back and retry a missed putt or chip after the hole is over, because I don't want to have to go into the app and delete putts. That's probably a personal preference and may change down the road. Also, my course is a 9 hole course and I have to end the round and start a new one after I finish 9. I expected that it would detect that I had looped around and started a new 9, but instead it added those shots onto the previous round which was a bitch to clean up. Small gripe, but I'm 100% satisified with the purchase.
11. I think I'm going to take the plunge on an arcoss. I really liked the GG system when I first saw it, but after one round trying to play and record with their app I know I'll constantly forget to tag my shots. That's the biggest selling point IMO for the arcoss. Amazon has them for $279 right now. The one thing i worry about with both of these solutions is losing the tags. How secure are they? Am I going to be fishing tags from the bottom of my bag?
12. I haven't tried it yet, but I downloaded it. I love the fact that their GPS uses satellite mapping. That's damn awesome.
13. This was the only link I could find was golfwod .blogspot.com
14. Going to give this a try. Did the evaluation, 22 pushups, 30 situps,.30 squats...average driving distance right now is 220... Not sure how I'm going to do the weight lifting exercises, as my gym has all machines and very little free weights.
15. Same swing as above, but at 1/4 speed.
16. 6 iron dtl swing Still looking for feedback on taking the club inside per my previous post.
17. I've been Playing Golf for: 3 years My current handicap index or average score is: 13.4 handicap My typical ball flight is: draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Want advice on my takeaway... I know my club comes too far inside/under my hands, 1) should I be concerned about this and 2) any idea what is causing it. I've tried to figure it out and the best I can tell it's something to do with either cocking my wrists too early or rotating the forearms too quick. 1/2 Speed Normal Speed
18. Yah, you're right about that CyclistOK. That's something that has been a continuous struggle for me. Not really sure how to break the habit. I was working on fixing it, until a pro told me that I was extending too much on my follow through and that I needed to let the club wrap around so that the back of my right hand was by my ear at the end of my follow through.
19. Thanks for the response John. I normally do play it off of my left heel, but had moved it back because the ball was slicing from my front heel. I know it's a compensation thing to move the ball back, but I was desperate to hit some drives that actually landed in the same area code of my target :) I can play it off my front heel if I move my front foot toward the ball 1/2", and my back foot back 1/2". Again, compensating for what's probably a swing path issue, but it seems to work for me (sometimes).
20. Finally started working on my driver. Been trying to keep a flatter swing plane since the main problem I had before with my driver was coming over the stop and slicing the hell out of the ball. In the face on, it's pretty clear that I'm still flipping. Does my swing plane look okay though? Figure I should tackle this 1 step at a time. As an update to my other thread, I shot 100 (my lowest score so far) at a tougher course than I normally play in 25 MPH winds :) If it had of been the easier course that I normally play on a mild day, I think I would have easily broken 100.
21. Lots of good suggestions in this thread. I would recommend buying used balls to save yourself some money. Lostgolfballs.com is a good place to buy and you can get twice as many balls for the same price as new balls. Like others here, I'd recommend the Callaway Big Bertha and Srixon Soft Feel.
22. I think he's talking about those things that you aim at the flag stick and it measures from top to bottom to tell you how far away it is. I would think those would be terribly innaccurate. They sell them at Wal-Mart.
23. I can't speak for aGPS or wrx_junki, but the GPS on my iPhone will occasionally bug out and think I'm up to 40 yards away from where I'm really at. This normally happens when I don't have a strong GPS signal. Even with a strong GPS signal, I've had it be 5-10 yards off. The app I'm using puts a dot on a satellite map, so I can usually figure out if it has me in the right place.
24. Found one that I didn't see mentioned here. Not really a full function GPS app, but for $1.99 it's an effective distance measuring tool. I've been using it to measure distances at the driving range, because the markers never seem right. It's called DistanceMap, and is really close to what Google Earth with the Ruler function does on a PC. Allows you to do Point to Point measurements on a satellite image map, or you can do location (GPS) to point distances. Pretty slick and it works pretty well, although the GPS leaves a bit to be desired. [edit] This is an iPhone app. There is an app called DistanceMap in the Android store, but it's not the same thing.
