  1. I did that last week My current driver was way wrong. Shaft too flexible. The head was not stable enough. I got a driver more suited for me within my budget. Ping Rapture (although I wanted the new V2). Fujikura x stiff, 1 inch tipped shaft. It's only 44 3/4 for better accuracy. Played with it yesterday. Not bad. I'm not hitting it any longer at the moment, but it is going straighter Thanks, Mike
  2. When doing anything physical, it is SO critical to listen to your body. Your body will tell you very quickly if something isn't right. If so, "stop it right then and there". Doing the right program is also very important. Most fitness trainers in gyms do not have an idea of golf swing mechanics and how the muscles are used in this very unnatural movement (golf swing).
  3. What amazes me is I thought playing the Pro V1 was it! But then a very knowledgeable guy tells me for low spin, etc. to play the Wilson ball which is significantly less in cost. Something doesn't seem right here, but I am going to go down and get some of them and try them.
  4. He is a nice guy who deserves a win! We live in the same town, but I've never run into him. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
  5. I've never even heard of Danny Lee I just heard of Rory a couple of months ago. He seems like the "real deal".
  6. There is so much I don't know and so much equipment available. Blows my mind!
  7. Many golfers in this thread continue to discount the importance of wrists for more distance. I heard somewhere (I'll find the source) that the study of golf swing biomechanics showed that 78% of clubhead speed came from the hingeing and unhingeing of the WRISTS! This is not me saying this, this is biomechanical studies of the golf swing, by specialists who know what they are talking about. I do agree, that swing mechanics, sequence of motion, and other issues need to be correct, but many older golfers have weak and very inflexible wrists, and will never be able to retain lag and release it for maximum clubhead speed. These forums make the world go around, meaning many, many different opinions and thoughts. I like it when I find scientific documentation for biomechanical data as you cannot ignore it. For the average golfer who is not Obsessive Compulsive like me, would never need to take it this far, but I'm a bit different that way
  8. This has always been one of my issues. I laterally slide past the ball causing an early release of my hands, I never get that look of release or right hand over left with arms extended past impact. I have had pros look at my swing on video, and none have been able to get at the "root cause" of my slide and lack of hip rotation through impact. I am amazed at how far I hit my driver with such poor swing technique. And that I play to a solid 7 handicap with a swing like that. I wish I could get a pro that would really take the time to find the "cause" of my swing faults, as I think I would be in the low single digits very quickly.
  9. I just bought a Body Bar that weighs 6 pounds. Swing this like you would your driver and in no time you will be a stronger, more powerful golfer. They have a website at bodybars.com. Don't get anything over a 6 pound though. And for older golfers, go for the 4 pounder.
  10. Anybody play the Wilson 50 50 golf ball? I just had a very knowledgeable friend tell me that since I want lower spin rates, I should play this ball. The guy who tested me of course told me I should play the Pro V1x. Well, the Wilson ball goes for $17 a dozen, and we know what the Pro V1x's are ! I would like to learn more about the Wilson ball.
  11. I can't do that LOL! I'm a "want it yesterday" kind of guy
  12. Good advice. Never done that, but there's a first time for everything
  13. For the first time ever I got my specs with my current driver. I went to one of those fancy, very expensive clubfitting shops here in Scottsdale, but they were kind enough to measure me for no fee, I'm sure in hopes I would be a driver from them (and maybe so). Current Driver is a 3 year old Mizuno MP-001 9.5 degree, standard (off the shelf) stiff shaft. Here are my measurements: Swing Speed - 109 MPH Ball Speed - 157 MPH Launch Angle - 14.2 Spin Rate - 3800+ Smash Factor - 142 Carry - 276 Total - 301 Massive dispersion in regards to mishits. Off the grid with 75% of them. Now here is the cool part, and I don't know what to do. The tester told me to hit his Ping Rapture V2 with a Fujikura 6Z08 shaft. Total length was shaved down to 44 3/4. Swing Speed - 106 Ball Speed - 156 Launch Angle - 11.6 Spin Rate - 2800 Smash Factor - 150 Carry - 281 Total - 308 The accuracy at this distance was amazing. One of them went literally straight down the line, the other two were just slightly off the line. I loved this driver!! He told me it had much lower torque, especially for my swing speed, unlike my current driver, and the shaft was much stiffer, enabling me to use my strength through impact more efficiently and keep it much straighter. He also said, I was maximizing the "Smash Factor" with his driver at 150. Now the bummer $700!!!!!!!! Ouch!!!!!!!! I want this driver!! Any thoughts or suggestions? I think in retrospect, the biggest issue was how much straighter I hit the Ping.
  14. I agree! Golftec is a good system, especially with the video feedback that is instant. The video doesn't lie, and will show you things in your swing you would have never picked up otherwise. I strongly recommend it.
  15. Well, it seems many golfers know it all So they will all give their "2 cents" worth, but unless the golfer narrows it down via video, it is all just a guessing game right?
