  1. Thank you for all the replies and for helping me out with the first comment given. I will go to golfsmith and try to hit a few different ones and go from there. Thanks again, Mike
  2. I am looking at buying a set of Taylor made irons but I really don't know what one to buy. I am about a 25 handicap (the best I have shot is an 89 but most days I am a 95 or so.) I am looking at the Burner plus or super launch, any ideas or comments? also I am not sold on the Taylor made if there is something better out there. Thank you for any help, Mike
  3. I felt good till I went to a different course yesterday and was back to the high 90s. I could wine and say it was the wind or the greens were bad etc but I was just bad. I did sink about a 25 foot put on 18 that's why I'm going tonight to play 9
  4. Played with a couple guys this week that looked like they spent 3-4 days a week in the gym, I have a mental thing with my driver on 3 and 4 at the course I play so I T off with my three wood to keep the ball from hitting houses. I was out driving them about 10-15 yards with it and could play my ball from the fairway. They tried harder and the worse it got, I just kept it up and played good for me. Mike
  5. To tell you the truth I wanted something new and shiny and just happened on these. I made the guy an offer and said what the hay if he takes it I get new stuff if not I still like the old ones. I knew I could hit the G5s and didn't want to stray to far from the known (I am not verry good and would hate going backwards). I have a buddy with a set of Nike cav back clubs that I can't hit any good at all (he's about the same hight etc so they should fit me OK). Anything Ping seems to hold their value as long as you don't abuse them as well. I have an old set of G2s that I bought when I started plaing that were the wrong lie etc for me that I should sell as well. 3-SW with a set of woods 1,3,4,5. They are just collecting dust in the den. Mike
  6. They are orange and 1/2" longer but I was told when I bought them they were adjusted to black. I have a free adjustment on them from the store I bought them from if you need them a different lie. I would like to get 250.00 for them. They have Ping coard grips as well. Mike
  7. I had two this week. One was a 305 yard drove on 8 at Beacon Lakes right down the middle. and the second was on 10 the same round was my second shot that was about 3 feet from the pin for one under. Best shots during the best round (89) of my short golfing life. About 18 months now, Mike
  8. Well I was going to try out my new to me (Im cheap OK) iron set and some soft Nike balls last night, so I waited till about 6:02 so I got the discount of fee of 19.00 from 36.00 for 18 with a cart at Beacon Lakes and finished about 9:55 with a group of turtles in front of us. I was planing on playing on my own but they paired me with two other guys that were pretty good but easy going. I hit all but three fairways (my fairways, I always hit one but not always mine) and the bad shots were in play from our side. I started with one ball and finished with it that was a first for me as well. I ended up with 89 I couldn't believe it when I added it up I have only shot in the mid 90s a couple of times I am most days in the low 100s or high 90s so I was pretty pumped up. I am going to either Beacon or Texas City this afternoon to see how big a fluke it was. But I can say that "one day I did good" now. Mike
  9. I got them today and the guy didn't fib about the use. It looks like the 3 has one paint mark from hitting off a T the 6 and W have been used but the rest don't even have a ball mark on them. Looks like a good deal I'm going to find out tomorrow after work how they hit. I went to Golf Smith Tuesday and picked up a few dozen Nike soft balls the try. Mike
  10. 88 C1500 with 305K on the clock (it was my late fathers so I can't part with it) 96 Dodge 3500 DSL dually 97 Harley softail custom The best part of all of them is there all paid for, I hate car payments.
  11. I made the mistake of going to Pings web fit tool for a set of irons the other day and went to ebay looking. Just going to look kind of thing you guys know about that I'm sure. There was an exact set of G10 3-PW that the web fit called for that the guy wanted 450.00 for or best offer that he played two rounds with. So I offered 350.00 including shipping and he took it, should have offered 300.00. My G5 Pings will be going on the auction block in the upcoming weeks. But they shipped Friday so I hope to see them mid week. Mike

A buddy and I were getting ready to t off and another pair of guys got there so we invited them to play with us. They were sad with the amount of strokes they didn't count. At one point they even said they can't count that it would hurt their handicap. On the 17th one of them lost their ball and hit my ball. I was not too happy after that but finished the round and went home. Mike
  13. Let me start by saying I am a hack so when I make a decent shot I am pretty happy about it. I have two the first was my second shot on a par 4 175 out from an uphill lie (about a foot higher than my feet) I took out my trusty 24* hybrid and had that what happens happens attitude and hit it to the left of the green into a bunker. Oh yeah it was dark and the lights just came on so I had no idea where it went. Then I blasted it out of the sand to within about a foot of the cup. I shot 4 on the hole that I have to hit out of the other fairway all but two times I have played it. I was happy just in time to fall apart on 18. Shot a 96 but I am having fun and I didn't hit any balls out of my fairway so i was having a good day. Mike
  14. BB I have a racecar fab shop at my house but I am running out of room in the shop and a friend is selling his house with a 2100 SF shop in the back. I always thought if he sold it I would like to buy it so mine is going up for sale. Yes we are halfway between Houston and Galveston closer to HW 146 than 45 right around the corner from South Shore Harbor golf course and 2 miles or so to the Kemah waterfront. There are 4-5 courses between 5-15 miles or less and three private courses within 5 miles or so. Mike
  15. John, I play at Beacon lakes and joined the GAP program a few months back. I work with Jacob that works in the office, pro shop whatever you want to call it. I got fitted at Big O's on 518 Oscar is a nice guy and has quite a bit of info he shares. I got the info in the mail for Canongate but it was unclear what you got for the money and a guest was 65.00 on the weekend. I thought about it but I'm in the middle of fixing up my house to put it on the market and the extra money can be put to better use for the next few months. We play our scrambles from work at Mag Creek. Nice place but I feel like I don't belong there shooting 98+ most days. Those places are for someone better than I am. Mike
  16. Hello all, I have been playing golf since the spring of 09 when we had a scramble at work and thought it would be fun and a way to get out of work for the afternoon. Well that was the worse thing I could have done. I bought my first set of clubs a few days later and they were around for a week or so then a set of ping eye 2s that were the wrong lie. Imagine that a new guy that knew nothing about golf buying the wrong stuff. So I did some research and found out I needed to get fitted so off to the pro shop I went. He had a set of used G5 Ping irons and over the next months I bought the rest, G15 driver ,3,5,18, and 24 hybrids that fit me and now I have way to much invested in them to add up (I would just get upset) but I figure if I get tired of playing I will be able to sell them and recoup some of the investment. That's what I tell myself to make me feel better at least. I know I'm not good but I have fun and shoot in the 90s most days. If I could be a consistent 88 or so I would be more then happy. But hey I was a drag racer for 20 years that went all over the country so this is cheap compaired to that. Mike
  17. I normally shoot in the high 90s but the last time I played was a 94 getting better but I fall apart on 2 holes like clockwork.
  18. I think the best shot I had the last time I played was about 110 yd shot to the flag with a W it stuck and was about a foot from the pin. I can even make those putts.
  19. I am a HS Auto tech instructor. I have been playing golf for about 16 months now and have been through 3 sets of clubs but now I'm set for a while Ping G5 irons and G10 driver, woods and Hybrids.
