  1. I'd believe that it was off by about 30-35 yards. I was with my dad, and his shots were all approx 30 yards shorter than mine, which is about right. For $3K, it'd be a fun toy to have in the basement! Of course, I'd need to come up with $3,000, first. :(
  2. I was just at Golfsmith yesterday swinging some drivers, and the distances seemed to be WAY off, in a bad way. My drives were averaging 170-210. I'm not the longest driver in the world, but I KNOW I hit it further than that! Direction seemed to be somewhat true to what I normally get. Also tried a 6 iron for comparison and that was also short by a fair amount. Was registering 140ish, and that's what I hit my 8 iron. So after that experience I've chalked launch monitors (at least at that particular store) up as being a fun toy, nothing more. Better than just hitting into a net, I guess, where you'd never actually know how well you were hitting the ball. I've missed many a fairway on swings that felt good.
  3. Yeah, that's the general conclusion I'm coming to. Over the life of the clubs, the savings are hardly worth it. And the REAL kicker - I don't even truly need them, it's more of impulse, "want" type of thing. Definitely don't need them. Don't you just hate when your irons have held up so well that you never have a reason for shiny new equipment?!
  4. Sounds like it's probably in my best interest to not try to save a few bucks by purchasing clubs this way. It'd be a savings of MAYBE $100 (and more likely less), and that's just with a 'simple' cutting/regripping. Thanks for the input!
  5. Just keep in mind that you once started in their shoes, too. We all started somewhere, right? That said, including them in an early morning, weekend tee time might not be the best idea, but perhaps to maintain the friendship (if that's what you're REALLY concerned about) meet for some mid-week twilight golf. Out here, late in the day you can play for $15 with a cart after 4 or 5pm. That's only nine holes, tops, but it's better 'experience' than a range. Just a thought.
  6. I'm a standard fit, but found a good deal on clubs that are +1", actually.
  7. First off, is it possible to remove 1" from a steel shaft? If so, would it drastically alter the performance of the club, assuming I've never hit it before? Meaning... would the club have to be totally refitted due to the new length? Also, what kind of cost could I expect to have 1" removed from 5 or 6 clubs? Thanks!
  8. I go to Marshalls and ROSS once or twice a week to look for 'dri-fit' type golf shirts, and they're almost always available for $10-$12. Seems like they get mostly Grand Slam Golf and PGA Tour brands, sometimes others. What's nice for me is that I wear a Medium, so while there's definitely less selection than for larger sizes, it also tends to sit on shelves longer.
  9. Unless the round has long been scheduled (i.e. golfing when visiting the folks over the holidays), I simply don't golf when the weather is poor. I'm on alright golfer, but I really just play as something to do to enjoy nice weather on a lazy afternoon. Of course, it's easier for me to say I only play in nice weather since I live in San Diego.
  10. Not that I can remember, not because I was hitting poorly, anyway. BUT, I will walk away with up to 10 balls left if I'm hitting REALLY well and am about to start a round. I don't like to end on a bad shot. I usually just look for the youngest (or newest to the sport appearing) golfer and give him/her the rest of the balls.
