  1. Theres sooooo many thing we'd need to know before offering any advice...whats your swing speed? Your tempo? swing plane?what's your current ball flight? What are you looking for in flight pattern? You a hitter or a swinger? handicap? looking to work the club a bit or looking for forgiveness?
  2. One of the most underrated balls out there...been around for years, but Nike keeps re-packaging them and offering slight deviations of the name....but a very nice, soft, low compression ball that has very decent grab around the greens and putts well. Retail is $15.00
  3. PCS = Professional Clubmakers Society. As far as cost goes? It depends how much work needs to be done...assuming they don't need to be replaces and we're simply talking about cutting to fit and adjusting lie angles, you'd be looking at $50 + cost of new grips (assuming they cannot be replaced).
  4. I completely agree with your closing statement...I agree, spending tons of $$$ to get custom fitted at this stage of the game is silly...but he NEEDS to start out with something made for him...and it can be done very inexpensively. Most clubfitters have dozens of good quality pull out shafts in all different materials, flexes and profiles...as well as tons of trade in heads from irons to drivers. It is very easiy to sift and pick a set that is fitted to the kids physical dimensions and swing ...without coming close to breaking the bank. Granted, it won't happen if he goes to a Golf Galexy...but there's PCS all over the world that would help him out.
  5. You need to think outside of the box.... Lets assume you're currently using a set of old mens clubs... You can take what you have to a good clubfitter (preferrably PCS) and they will fit you (take static measurements as well as some dynamic points). They can take what you have...then cut and bend to fit...get you a large, forgiving and long driver...etc all for under $300.00. Then use that extra hundred for a couple lessons!
  6. While it appears you've made your decision, I would have to agree with Evarardo... To not get fitted until you quit growing is insane...does that mean that NO ONE should ever get fitted till they're grown? Was Tiger hitting Earls old hand me downs till he went to Stanford? If you hit ill fitted clubs, you'll develop bad habits and the quest to break 100 could actually take LONGER with equipment not fitted for your current swing. Granted, your swing isn't repeatable now...but guess what? NO ONE has a repeatable swing! My gawd, you're hitting a 250cc head? That's what? 20 years old? Those were designed to hit the old high spin Balata balls which haven't been made since the mid 1990's! You have zero forgiveness in the equipment you're hitting now...you'll be struggling for every yard you can get, when all the students around you are passing you by (equipment wise). You don't need to get the most expensive, state of the art equipment...you can get a good used set or a new moderately priced set and have either the used or new fitted to you for much less. Or go to a PCS clubfitter and get fitted with quality components.... Either way, the longer you wait to get fitted, the longer it will take you to improve and truly enjoy the sport.
  7. Both excellent choices....right now the lowest compression ball on the market is the Strada tour straight at 37 comp...they quit making them a year ago but still cn be found.
  8. Right now, my main irons have the Graman Limeys in them...
  9. LOL...this is true,,,that's why I put the "pure" in quotations.
  10. OMG! Whogave you this information??? The guy knows nothing! Granted, you should have got the .350....but your clubmaker should have had shims to fit the .335 into the .350 head...it's a common daily practice... Secondly, any competent clubmaker can "pure" of spine align, the shaft for you themselves...and not charged you. If this guy doesn't know these really basic principles of clubmaking, I would really recommend you look elsewhere...he just cost you a lot of money you should never have paid...and I'm guessing his quality of work will be pretty poor.
  11. Why not just order it thru Golf Galexy??? They own Golfworks and Golfworks is cheaper than Golfsmith...plus you'd be paying shipping!
  12. Like Evarardo, we do enough that we can tell...but if in doubt, you can check buy laying the club on the table, flat part of the grip, flush on the table, with the head hanging over the edge...and you can confirm if the head is perpendicular to the table top using a protractor.
  13. He should have KNOWN that it would get stiffer...and 10cpms may be about right...but that is the butt flex stiffness which has nothing to do with the overall shaft profile. You did yourself a favor by cutting it down...most of the time people come to us with accuracy problems off the tee box it's one or more of the following: Too stiff, Too low loft or too long.
  14. Ahh, thanks! I have a few customers there...as soon as we hear more info I think we could recommend some viable options for him to pick up locally....thanks!
  15. Yes. It makes a difference...too many new players go for balls that advertise ultra distance....when in reality, newbies should be concerned about accuracy and control. I recommend either the Srixon AD333 of the Nike Power Distance...both have lots of spin to assist in stability, don't skip off the greens like many "rocks"...and both retail for under $20 bucks.
  16. There is really no such thing as a low or high spin shaft...but a combination of shaft/head angle of impact that derive spin. Your swing speed is tremendous! It's very possible, actually PROBABLE that you can get greater distance and a lower flight at your swing speed....but we'd need more info. When you had your swing speed checked, do you recall what the IBS was? Also a couple more questions....when you miss the fairway....do you tend to pull or push? Also, where (state) do you live?
  17. Where can I see a picture of one? Google turns up nothing.
  18. I know awhile back Mizuno did not do an aggressive Pay to Play program as the Callaway, TM etc...so many pros would not do so...but (I don't know the numbers now) but a few years back, Mizuno was one of the top, most popular irons in the amature ranks. To me, that means that most of those that had to PAY for their irons, chose Mizuno...to me, that was a better selling point than which company has the most money to toss around. As a clubfitter, I would say the overall quality and consistency of the Mizunos that we work on are pretty much better than anything out there. The attention to detail is wonderful...
  19. KZG Evolutions in the main bag Horsepower Forged in Bag #2 Infiniti 422's in Bag #3
  20. Most of the Dicks (that I've been to) use a Vector Launch monitors which are pretty accurate. If it was registering 106 with you hitting irons, I'm speculating that was actual BALL speed and not swing speed....which that being the case would put you around 75mph Swing Speed....which would make sense.
  21. Everado - Thanks for steering the cart back on course...I apologize for my reaction...but as an OWNER of a golf business for over 11 years, I took offense to some guy calling me out and telling me I don't know the industry. So, back to Ryan's dilemma... As I stated earlier, there is no industry standard for flex, kickpoint, torque etc....what may look good on paper may not work well on the course. The best thing to do is look up a local PCS pro in your area...not a Dicks, not a Hot Stix, not a Golf Smith, not a Golf Galaxy....etc. These are all companies that are limited to their inventory "on hand" as to what they will recommend. So you will not get a recommendation what is the BEST for you, but get a recommendation what's best for you within their current supply. A good fitter will be able to fit you with the combination they recommend and let you try it on the launch monitor to compare against the others. Good luck!
  22. No, you obviously have no clue as to their marketing program that's been going on for two years now....there's many licensed Hot Stix facilities now...would you like me to take a picture of the one in Cedar Rapids with the same Hot Stix Logo to prove it to you and the other members? Or is the phone number I provided sufficient? Isn't that what I said before you insulted me? That is exactly what I said...the AZ location is great...they knew their stuff ...but the other facilities I visited were an embarrassment and there was no way I was going to add our name to that chain. So now you're ADMITTING that there other Hot Stix facilities??? Where's the apology for calling me out? As far as your statement: " ..when your company services countless tour professionals, you are most likely the best at what you do...." Okay.... We've worked with Zach Johnson and his dad....we work extensively with our guys on the Long Drive Association and fitted many winners and currently working with a PGA pro whos won 6 PGA tournaments and looking for more distance....of which we've given 15 (carry). He will be carrying our logo in about a month. So what have YOU done??????
  23. Handicap and price range are absurd points of reference to fit a person. If a club fitter were to ask me that, I'd walk out of the session....what you need to know is see the swing...do a static and dynamic fitting..at MINIMUM...and THEN gather more information...all the way down to the state and course they play.
  24. Ah excuse me? Sir, you have no idea what you're talking about... First off, we are a full source fitting, repair and sales center with two PCS Class "A" Certified clubfitters, one of which named clubfitter of the year in the north midwest. Directly across the street from us is a Hot Stix center in Cedar Rapids that you may call your self to confirm at 319-294-3304 (if you don't believe me)... This is a "Golf Headquarters" that did pony up the $26k Franchise fee and agreed to the per use charge for the Hot Stix analysis program. Further more theres MANY more than four Hot Stix centers..I have no idea where you got your information from but as of last count there was over twenty. Granted their website shows locations in (I believe) three states...but they are now all over the country. I implore you to please think twice before you make false accusations against another member in public...and if you DO feel compelled to correct a statement you feel was incorrect, you do it privately, or risk looking like an ass again. Incidentally, I STAND behind my assertation that many Hot Stix Facilities know nothing...There are exceptions...the facility in AZ is total top notch...but the others I've visited (when contemplating purchasing a franchise) left a lot to be desired...the one in Cedar Rapids is operated by kids who constantly mis-diagnose and mis fit customers... We had a customer who went in there who lived in Texas before moving here...All his shots are delofted punch shots...nothing over 30 yard off the ground...yet he's a 2 handicap. He's deadly accurate. He went to Hot Stix for Sh!t's n giggles and even though his driver speed was clocked at 112 and his 5-iron at 89mph....he was told to go to a senior or ladies flex because the trajectory was too low. When it was pointed out to the operator that the guy had the ball by his rear foot at address, and the punch shot was HIS swing, his response was : "I don't care...the machine says he has to raise his flight and go to a softer flex". Actually, once Golf Headquarters brought in the Hot Stix facility, our sales have gone up repairing their screw ups. :)
  25. There's a LOT of ladies offering's that are very affordable....the only thing I'd recommend is getting her a driver at LEAST 16 *.....almost all womens club sets come with a 12* driver, which is absurd.
