  2. Just got my first which is a .270 rifle I will use for target shooting and occasional hunting. I'd like a 12 gauge (because rifle hunting is very restricted in Illinois, especially when you don't have your own land), a .22 rifle (dirt cheap ammunition for target shooting), and a revolver in .357 or .44 magnum (home defense/hunting sidearm). I'm going to stay out of the political stuff. Statistics are pretty much useless in these polarized arguments though, I make my living in data anlytics and can make numbers say what I want them to most of the time. IMO its silly to argue about it anyway. Its like a color blind guy and a normal sighted guy looking at the same stop light- same underlying reality, different perceptions/experiences. How nice to live in a country where if I care enough either way I could move somewhere where guns are essentially banned or somewhere where I could fire a cannon in my backyard.
  3. some things just don't lend themselves to quantification....
  4. I got it for helping a friend move, she found it in the garage of her new place. Why would you even say that?
  5. Today I accumulated an old Nike Victory Red 52* forged approach wedge with TT a dynamic gold shaft and golf pride tour wrap grips. Looks pretty heavily used, any idea what its worth if I sold it myself or trade in value if I exchanged it for another club? I have a keep between 3 wood and 3 iron I would like to fill, would consider 2iron/hybrid or a 4 or 5 wood. I'm also considering keeping it for when its wet as it only .25 shorter than my usual gap wedge with the same loft, but more bounce and a higher swingweight.
  6. If one were to use stiff shafts in the rest of their clubs and also use say a lob wedge, but almost exclusively for partial or "finesse" shots, could it be a good idea to use a more flexible shaft in that club?
  7. I started playing last May with a RAM G Force Tour starter set. After 5 months or so I replaced them with the following from Gigagolf: A driver which they no longer sell, not sure which TBH. A GXi 3 Wood TRX MR Control Irons 3-PW SGS 52.06 SGS 58.12 (I kept the RAM putter) I'm incredibly pleased with them. The custom fitting made a huge difference for me, and and i think as a beginner getting custom fit clubs is important because otherwise you will compensate for the club and learn a bad swing. Where else are you going to get that for $150/iron set? I would recommend Gigagolf clubs to anyone, but especially someone in your situation. I also will caution you that the bag I got from them kind of sucks. Its wearing out pretty quick and the fabric on one of the shoulder straps has unraveled to reveal the white foam insides (to be fair I've been playing a ton and uaually walking). They also originally cut the shaft on one of my wedges too long. They were really nice about it and fixed it promtly for me. Clubs are great though, I would buy them again.
  8. I tried to hit a wedge over a tree today, but i skulled it into the trunk and it bounced back past me, hit the tire of my cart and landed right back where it started, all in a split second.
  9. i recently procured an old wooden driver. says its a delta, made in the usa. any idea what the loft might be? are the lofts of old wooden drivers similar to modern clubs? its got a short steel shaft and i hit it better than my driver and 3 wood. i might replace them with it for a while and focus on my irons, just started golfing last may. thanks.
  10. hit an 8 iron from about 155 in the rough to around 8 feet from the pin on a 570 yard par 5 for my first chance at birdie on the hole ever. missed the putt feel like im starting to get the hang of the scoring clubs.
  11. I imagine they would help more than hurt compared to the balls you are using. I haven't been playing very long and I have a bunch of old cheap recycled balls from wal mart and some refurbished prov1x's, i can tell the difference, with the prov1x's the ball usually sticks on the green if it lands there instead of rolling off, and they also tend to fly a little straighter and generally feel better. Give it a try why not?
  12. Interesting. I think I would keep the 4 iron in though, sorry i worded that pretty ambiguously. I hit the 4 longer than the 5 most of the time. My 3 I sometimeshit longer than my 4, but I usually slice or hit to low to the ground to go further. I think I could learn to hit it effectively which is why I think about the 62*. The irons were TRX MR Control, the wedges are SGS. The driver and 3 wood are discontinued, not sure exactly, 10.5* and 15*, stiff shafts.
  13. Started last May with a cheap set of RAMs and then bought from Gigagolf... Driver 3 Wood 3-P 52.6 58.12 Kept the RAM putter and I'm pretty good with it ;) so 13 clubs... I feel like its reasonable to think about a 14th because I love golf, have been improving pretty steadily, can tell the difference between all my clubs when I am hitting them right, and intend to play a lot in the near future. The 5 wood vs. 2 hybrid/iron thing has been discussed in plenty of other othreads so how about these alternatives... 62* wedge i understand these are very hard to use but for some reason by far my best club now is my 58. I often get into situations where i want to use the 58 but the 12* of bounce aren't right for the lie, and i end up using a club that rolls to much at the end or hitting a chunky shot with the 58 7 wood i hit my 3 wood pretty well, and if there are any redundancy in my bag now its probably 3 & 4 iron. What if I could replace both with a 7 wood and then add a 2 hybrid/wood and go to 50/54/58 or get a 62 (PW is 46). Thanks for your advice, and what a beautiful game.
  14. I just started playing about 6 or 7 weeks ago and I am hopelessly addicted. Right now I'm playing with my RAM G-Force Tour set, which consists of 11 clubs (Driver, 3 and 5 wood, 4 hybrid, 5-PW, and putter). This is working okay for me now as I get started, but I am anticipating that i will want add a wedge or two at some point, and so i would like to know the lofts on my irons so that i can pick out wedges that will fit in well. Does anyone know or can anyone tell me how I might go about finding out? Its a 2009 set, if that makes a difference. Thanks for your help, and its good to be here! Brett
