  2. I have some. They're nice, soft, and didn't notice really much distance difference. i've tried these anti-spin balls extensively and here's my take: if you slice/block/pull/duck/etc. you're probably going to lose the ball. if you hit an overdone cut/draw maybe this will keep you in the rough instead of the woods, but they aren't miracle balls. they do make miracle balls, but they're banned.
  3. I'm like most not very good golfers, i have a handful of clubs i hit pretty well, some are a crapshoot. i could drop my driver because my 3w rivals it, but i'm not as consistent off the tee with my 3w as my driver. i could drop the 3w and do a 3h/4h layup to a short wedge which is more accurate than a 3w followed by a shot from greenside rough/bunker. i do love blasting the 3w when i've duffed my tee-shot though. the hybrids are one of the better decisions i've made. i have regular flex irons, because of my toned down iron swing so there is a weird "feel" gap between them, but the distances are 10 yard spaced. here's my breakdown, you can +/- 5-10 yards for D-4h: Driver: 230 3 wood: 210-230 3h: 200 4h: 180 5: 170 6: 160 7: 150 8: 140 9: 130 P: 110 A: 100 54: 80 58: don't know, never hit it full, probably 70-something. basically i got some used clubs so i could play out of town, and i love this wedge i got. it's a 54/16. i don't know if it's the bounce, heavier weight, or non-conforming grooves but this thing spins the ball like crazy and i've never been able to that. i hit an 80 yard shot off of concrete sand and it took one hop, i was amazed. i just have to use a different club if i want roll. i want to put it in my bag and forgot i already bagged a 54/09 so i'll just switch them out so i'll have a high bounce and low bounce between my wedges. either way i forgot they were identical lofts and it made me think of how i was going to get it in my bag and then i thought about the different configurations i've seen with people i play with. i see those sand specific or chippers and wonder what they gave up to get them. at this point i could drop my 58 because it's rarely used. when i was playing more frequently i had a bunch of shots with it, but now i've lost my confidence and will lay it open or decelerate on it because i don't trust it. i don't know what i would replace it with though. my gap is from my low irons into my wedges. but anyway, sorry for the rambling. i am still interested in your guys reasons and the clubs you picked.
  4. i think costco is good with returns. i am 100% for returning things if you don't like them. too many people think it's a big hassle, but the worst thing that can happen is they won't take it back which leaves you where you're at currently. most places want to keep your business, especially if you're willing to keep the money in their store.
  5. i think my midsized grips sit up a little bit and out of that hinge. every once in a while i do have to jostle my clubs to pull them out, but that happens in my big bag as well. i always assumed it was the larger grips. when i carry i usually play an executive course (so 6-wedges) or if i'm doing a regular course i'll pull the odd or even irons so there's usually plenty of room.
  6. it seems like a silly question, but how did you decide your clubs and what made you change if you switched? i have what i feel is a pretty standard setup and my clubs are pretty well spaced, but i'd like to add another wedge which means i'll probably just drop the 58*. but i wondered how other people decided what to carry and what to change after playing for a while.
  7. i got my callaway stand bag a while ago for under $100 and it's been great. never carry a full set with it, but it's really light and has enough pockets for everything. it even has the bottom that tips with the legs. if i carried all my clubs with me when i walked i might want the full divider. the straps are what sold me on my bag though.
  8. i have ping i-series hybrids and they are really good. they get through everything and give you a solid hit. i loved taylormade, but i never liked their hybrid. i would go hit some. take the distances with a grain of salt, but i knew right away which ones felt solid and which ones i didn't like the feel of.
  9. some used clubs so i can play on this road trip: TM MC 2-pw with KBS shafts (starting to think i might sell them when i get home, little too stiff for me even though i hit them well in the store) adams speedline f11 3 wood (going to go head to head against my ping when i get home, really good 3-wood, especially for $10) callaway x-series jaws 54/16 (i have to find a way to get this in my bag permanently, amazing spin. downside is it rips the ball cover) macgregor putter (cheapest putter they had, hate it but needed a putter) 24 nike sfts sun mountain carry bag (going to my wife when i get home)
  10. besides really cheap (how they're made, not price) it doesn't really matter. i buy "used" golf balls in bulk, but i've been going through less so now i have a surplus. i love the hex bite ball, but i just played a few rounds with a different wedge, steeper swing, and a "distance" ball and it checked up way quicker than my hex bite with my mizzy wedges ever do. like most things, it's a personal preference thing. so if you find a ball that you feel more confident with off the tee/around the green/putting then just stick with it.
  11. 4 balls is a baker's sleeve. i carry around a dozen when i walk and two dozen when i cart. i lose a lot more in a cart than walking and i have extras for the partners.
  12. one of my favorite is arm extension through the ball to a pose. i am tall with long arms and i can get into this t-rex arm swing. this keeps my ball really low and usually has a sharp side-spin on it one way or another. putting a slightly diagonal club or stick outside the ball to help you visualize in to out helps too. it's also how i screw up short chips. extending my arms to and through the ball and making an emphasis to turn and have my belt buckle facing my target usually results in a much better ball. just trust that good things are going to happen and do the pose no matter how over the top it feels. (the exaggerated pose, hopefully not your swing)
  13. golf pride vdr midsize for the wedges, a tigershark jumbo (the middle one) for the putter, and another 3 dozen hx bite. i like them and we don't have a golfsmith in maryland so i figured i would stock up. really like the putter grip. very repeatable and i had a very consistent putting round with it. didn't have a problem with distance, but left 5 putts within 6" of the cup with a few that i gave a minute to drop.
  14. 116. bad score, but better round then i've been playing. got a lot of stuff together, just didn't score well. one more chance to tame the tough course i've been playing and put a whole round together.
