  1. You definitel can be proud of him - only thing you have to teach him is how to add 100mph because with 14.xx he isn't going to hit very far:-D
  2. Just to add on the already mentioned general conditions (lie, wind, obstacles aso.), i take into consideration myself / my swing. if I have a birdie birdie run and feel comfortable I might go for a more agressive club selection. Also to add, if i am in a tournament situation i further consider possible chances to lower / raise my handicap or in a matchplay situation consider my opponents current situation and choose an appropriate strategy / club ...
  3. Shot 85 (42/43), slope 137, ~6700 yds., chilly weather around 6 deg. C, light winds, soggy To quote dan: "random stat": had 4 three puts on miserable greens (full of mushrooms:-O)
  4. ... Hate that distance as well :~( I see two options: either classic splash and hard swing with a lower lofted wedge, e.g. Gap wedge or direct contact and partial swing / steady and balanced lower body for which you could use any club dependent on the distance... I tend to go for the first option and with that technique i manage to hit up to 30 / 35 yds. roughly
  5. If you started golf you should focus on lowering your score and not driving the ball the farthest solely (will lower your score probably at a later stage). Embrace the sport as a whole, work on decent contact throughout bag, tee shots, pitches, bunker, putting, strategy aso. - there is so much more than pure driving, esp. If you just started... Mix up play and practice and if you want to increase swingspeed there are proper threads in the forum as well as youtube on how to approach that... Also ciphers links are a good starting point, Just my 5 cents :-)
  6. Sounds intersting - where is that range located? Regarding your wedge situation: agree on your observation (gap wedge) and from my perspective you should consider bending sw (what is it, like 54?) and adding a lw (then at least 59) ... Grave
  7. All values are approx., at sea lvl and decent temperatures: Driver: 250 carry 265 total 3-wood: 235 carry 250 total 2-hybrid: 225 4-iron: 200 5-iron: 188 6-iron: 177 7-iron: 165 8-iron: 155 9-iron: 145 PW (46*): 135 GW (50*): 122 SW (54*): 105 LW (58*): around 85 but hardly use it for full shots These are values from last season, switched my whole bag after 8 yrs. so will see what happens :-)
  8. Hey thanx for your warm welcome, the insights and recommendations so far! I used the Bridgestone online ball fiting guide and wrote them a mail. Online guide suggests to try the 330, their mail reply suggested heavily the 330-rx. Despite pricing I found the ProV1x an alternative as I played that ball as a provisional sometimes (too often maybe). Regarding Callaway I generally like their products but they are changing product lines so often that you can't really rely on steady ball performance from my point of view. HEX, Chrome, Hot, Hot2, Soft, Speed Regime, aso. They just confuse me. So here is the result so far: Balls to test: Slot 1: Bridgestone B330 and B330-RX Slot 2: Titleist ProV1x Slot 3: still free I know there are some comparisons already on the board so will check them first. What are your thoughts on a third ball and do you have a comparison to the E6 that I currently play for the others? Btw: I heard there are plans for a tour version of the Chrome Soft (higher compression)...
  9. Hi everyone! I am new to the forum and a partner at one of the Big4 professional services firm here in Germany. Just started a thread - feel free to help me on my journey to find a new ball: http://thesandtrap.com/t/79180/help-needed-new-ball-for-2015 Thanx!
  10. Hi! This is my first post on TST but I am "silently" enjoying the forum alreqdy quite a while. I am aged in the 40+ category, living in Germany and am an avid and passionate golfer with a current HCP of 6,8. Swinging the driver with around 106 to 108 mph, producing a rather high spin - high launch type of ballflight with irons and woods. In my everlasting search for optimizing performance I am looking for experiences and recommendations regarding the golf ball. I am playing the Bridgestone E6 for about 7 years where my handicap hovered around 15. As my striking got better and I am looking to go below a 5 HCP in 2015 I was thinking about switching my ball to maybe more compression (=distance?) and a tad more control / spin on (half)wedge shots. I manage to stop even even mid irons within a few feet but the short game is surely more of a "hop and roll" with the E6. My plan is to narrow the selection down to maybe three balls that I can test intensively on a trackman and on course in the next weeks. Can you help and share experiences? All the best and low scores to anyone!
