  1. Hit the first eagle of my life yesterday, after many close attempts. 312 yard par 4 uphill. Put my drive 4" passed the cup for a tap in eagle.
  2. Significant yardage increase actually.
  3. I agree with everything else except for this. Contrary to popular belief, there are those who drive the ball 300+ consistently. A situation happened a few months ago when I was playing with my father. We were at the tee box on #1. There was a group about 250 yards in front of us, and an older gentlemen rudely yelled at my father who was stretching, "Hit the **** ball, you aren't going to hit them." We preceded to allow the man to tee off and when he reached the spot where the original group was (on his 3rd hit mind you), I unloaded a ball about 40 yards over his head. Perhaps it was a jerk move on my part, but you should be considerate of the groups ahead of you as well.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/playe...?playerId=1586 A double eagle on #11 a 572yd Par 5, followed by a hole in one on #13 a 230yd par 3. Someone ate their wheaties this morning.
  5. Don't waste your time. It is impossible to hit one poorly, and they fly much further than 1/3 distance. It is fun to hit them every once in a while, but it is nothing like hitting a real golf ball.
  6. 120 mph is an attainable driver ss.
  7. I hate to get off topic, but your story is similar to mine. Some people are simply more self motivated than others. I simply cannot justify buying lessons for myself before my own learning plateaus. I have only been golfing for 5 months and consistently see improvement in different facets of my game. I prefer to learn through reading and analyzing professional gameplay. I've gone from shooting in the low 100s to the 78-83 range in the timespan of only a few months. While I certainly run the risk of developing poor habits, I enjoy the challenge of identifying those habits and 'tweaking' them to improve my score on the course. If I reach a point in my game where I am not seeing improvements, I will find a pro I feel can take my game to the next level. I only post this because I assume few here will agree with your learning method. As for the topic starter, it sounds like you have lost confidence in your swing. Are you having issues with your irons as well, or is it strictly with your driver?
  8. The "Almost Golf" website claims the balls fly around 1/3 distance, however from my experience they fly much further. I'm not sure how accurate this chart is, as it seems everything longer than the 5 iron flies 200+
  9. I rarely "go after it" with my 6 iron, as I'm not extremely confident with my iron control yet. I rarely swing more than "80%" with my irons. I hit it anywhere between 175-185 comfortably. Using 3rd-hand svg irons. No telling what kind of staff.
  10. Can't say I agree with this. My driver speed has been measured at 120+ (Not swinging out of my shoes), and I am only now consistently breaking 85 after 5 months of playing. I'm not sure you should assume a golfer is overestimating their driving ability when you could very well be underestimating the ability for a high handicap golfer to take 4-5 shots from 100 yards in to reach the pin.
  11. Perhaps I caught a bad batch, but mine fly closer to 3/4 distance. I have about 150 yards to work with and I'm afraid to use anything more than an 8i.
  12. Not to get too far off-topic, but a successful baseball grip typically involves the bat being held loosely in the fingers.
  13. That sir, is why you should never take your eyes off of the flag.
  14. Shot a 77 this evening. (39 / 38) New personal best, and second time breaking into the 70s. I drove the ball great today, my irons were good as well. I missed a few costly birdie putts, and a makeable eagle putt though.
  15. I was playing in a scramble last weekend, we came up to a 360 yard par 4 with a sharp dog leg right, thick woods with 25-30 foot high trees separating the tee box from the green. I cut the turn, going directly over the trees. We were shocked to see my ball sitting on the fringe about 20 feet from the pin. One of the most memorable tee shots I've had.
