Volume Eighteen

Some links for your viewing pleasure after a great weekend of golf.

Let me start by thanking Brian for filling in last week as I was celebrating my birthday. (Presents are still welcomed, in fact they are encouraged!) Second, I need to preface my next few sentences with the following: I’ve forever hated Colin Montgomerie.

But, was it just me, or did you find yourself not exactly rooting against him this weekend at the Open? I’m not saying I wanted him to win, but I am saying I wasn’t trying to squish his head with my fingers or hope that Tiger would mistakenly hit him with a 2-iron. I’m just saying, it might have been okay to see him do well in his native land. I could tell he desparately wants to win a major.

No? Okay, uh, me either. On to the links.

Volume Seventeen

Here are nine links to get you pumped for the Open, cry for little Michelle Wie, or to waste your time at work with.

This week, golf blogs and golf news sites from around the net are going nuts with everything from Wie stories to the British Open hoopla. Here’s linkage of that, with some other non-sense thrown in.

Volume Sixteen

These nine links should keep you going during this shortened work week.

I need to apologize for being a little late with this week’s Hittin’ the Links. I got a little too wrapped up in the Fourth of July cocktails yesterday and I’ve been a little preoccupied with the catfight going on in the golf blogging world. Anyway, I hope everyone was able to get a round of golf in this weekend.

Here’s nine links to keep you going for your shorter work week. FYI, next week’s links might be a little late as well. It’s my birthday and I’ll be on the road Monday.

Volume Fifteen

Here’s nine links for you to get going on a Monday.

There was a lot of good golf on television this weekend. Two sweet hole-outs for victories and two playoffs on the different tours. I found myself watching the U.S. Women’s Open more than anything else. I think it’s great to have all that young talent challenging the experienced players. Carolyn Vesper Bivens, the new LPGA commish, is going to have an amazing tour in a few years. Natalie Gulbis is getting herself in contention regularly, the teens are challenging Annika, and Annika is the greatest women golfer in a long time (and arguably, ever). I hope she plays her cards right.

Volume Fourteen

This week, we have a lot of US Open linkage, a new perspective from Sergio, golf’s young punk and we’re getting prepped for the Sorenslam!

Hopefully everyone remembered to call their fathers yesterday. I did. I love my dad and it was a little weird to not have a tee time with him yesterday. This is the first year in a long time I haven’t been able to celebrate Father’s Day with my dad on a golf course. He’s in Texas, I’m in D.C.

Like many, my dad is the guy who introduced me to the game, and I couldn’t thank him enough. Luckily, he’ll be visiting over the 4th of July, and we’ll play then. I’m looking forward to it. Maybe I’ll let him beat me this for a change?!

Not! On to the links.

Volume Thirteen

There’s a new format for Hittin’ the Links – 9 holes, 9 links. This week, we talk about Payne Stewart, Rory Sabbatini, Olin Browne, consecutive aces and my poor writing.

It’s time for the US Open. Are you ready? I sure am. I love this tournament. It’s fun to watch the pros struggle to shoot par. I can relate to their frustrations.

Who’s everyone picking to win it? My pick is Phil Mickelson. As much as I hate him, I think he’s going to come out and go low on Thursday and set the tone. We’ll see. I’ve never actually picked a winner of a tournament before.

Leave your picks in the comments. Now, on to the links.

Volume Twelve

This week’s links include a chance to play with a pro, celebrity golf tournaments, the truth about Bart Bryant and a little bit about booz.

I sat around the house all weekend watching my favorite golfer, Fred Couples, almost win my second favorite golf tournament, The Memorial. I love Freddie’s swing. It’s so smooth and silky that it will almost put you to sleep while you’re watching it on TV. Plus, his demeanor is great on the course. He looks so relaxed.

I think I have the same silky-smooth style when I put the links together.

Volume Eleven

Here’s a three-pack of links after a busy Memorial Day weekend.

I just flew in from Houston and boy are my arms tired! I hope everyone had a good weekend and was able to get out and play some golf. Since I was traveling all day yesterday, I thought I should throw some links out there on a Tuesday instead. Enjoy.

Volume Ten

Jim Nantz wants to be more than just friends, Amateur shoots 60 to qualify for US Open and who are golf’s next ‘it’ boys.

I’d like to take a moment to throw out the propers to the standard-issued plaid jacket at the Colonial and Paula Creamer’s first LPGA victory. Cheerio. Both standout for different reasons. The jacket looks as though it’s inside-out and Paula’s victory is impressive as she’s only 18.

The links are dedicated to you two this week. It’s my version of a golf clap.
