I am playing Ping G5's now, and I have found a set of Ping G15's 5-p for $389 and a set of Rapture V2's 4-p + GW for $459, the G15's have the AWT with Cushin and the Raptures are just AWT, both are steel stiff shaft.

So my question, overall which is more forgiving? Which is the better club? Please feel free to give any feedback on each set.

They are both very forgiving. But, IMO, I think Rapture is more for beginner. If you finding it kinda hard to hit the ball, Rapture would be it. Sorry if this's not helpful :)

rapture are more forgiving as they have the widest sole. i think. G15 are apparantly a better option as workability and forgiveness is concerned. dont know how they compare to g5.

Thanks for the reply, I can hit the ball pretty well and fairly straight, I usually don't slice or hook that bad, there are always those off center hits. I have always liked and wanted the G15's but the Rapture's are nice too, it looks like the K15's will be replacing the Rapture line.

Aren't Raptures kind of Ping's version of Big Berthas?

Im playing Ping i3-Oversize and I bought them new. Not to jack the thread but do I need to look at getting new irons?

That depends, how much do you like your i3's? How consistent are you? I like my G5's but if I can shave a few strokes off with the G15's and I can get them at a good price why not, take a trip to a Golf Galaxy or someplace close where you can hit them, hopefully they have the big computer screen with instant feedback.

I know you already made your decison....but I'd just thought I'd chime in and say that I LOVE my G15 irons. I've had them for about a month, have played about 7 rounds with them and have found them to be very forgiving and very solid on contact. Hope you like your as much as I like mine!

I don't have the inserts, just standard Ping grips (which I like).

Thanks, what did you play before the G15's? What do you like the most about the G15's?

Before the G15's I had TaylorMade 360's, decent clubs but at least 5 years old, not fitted to me and less forgiving than I wanted. Before I bought the G15's I hit just about every GI iron on the planet. I bought the G15's because I hit them pretty well and liked how they felt. They just felt better to me than the other irons I tried. After having them for a month, I like them even more. When hit anywhere near decent they have this wonderful solid feeling and they fly high and straight. When you miss, you can tell you missed and how but the results are still pretty good. I've never played a club that was so forgiving on shots that come off the toe, for example. I think the added weight in the toe really works. I hit an 8 iron fat yesterday and it amazingly still make it to the green and left me a decent birdie putt (which I missed). The clubs have a nice balance to them that I feel helps my tempo (which is often too quick). I think some of that comes from them not being super light (me and super light irons don't seem to mix well, thus no TM Burners in my bag). I thought the Callaway X-22's had a similar weight/balance to them, BTW.

My confidence is very high with these clubs. Traditionally iron play was my weakness. It seemed like I was better off being further away hitting my hybrids. There have been days where I feel like I'm cheating playing these irons. Of course, after having bought the irons, all of a sudden I can't get off the tee (normally my strength - accuracy not distance) or hit a putt (this is an evil game we play).

Dang you know the irons you bought were 4.5 degrees upright? Being pings are cast I dont think they will be able to adjust the lie angle like a forged club...hope you knew this before you purchased

Thanks for the info, my G5's are a Reg flex, and I was balloning par 3 tee shots, for example I had a 182 yard hole, i left it short of the green by about 10 yards, I hit a 6 iron I think, had it not balloned up I would have been on the green and closer to the pin, I hit it well and straight, the G15's are a stiff flex, all of my other clubs are stiff. And Golf is an evil game!

Yes I did know about that, I called Ping and gave them the serial number, they are ok to be bent to white, actually they were born Green, then White, now Maroon, once I get them back to white. I did ask the rep if the bending will weaken the club, she said no, they are made to be bent and I won't have an issue.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
