If you watch the LPGA regularly I am sure you hear it mentioned at least once every broadcast that Paula Creamer has not won since winning the U.S. Open in 2010. That of course is true, but doesn't tell the entire story of the level of golf Paula is playing. When a top player doesn't win for 3 years it usually means that they are in some kind of playing slump. Looking at Paula's record, she really has not had a period in her career where she has ever played poor golf. In fact, I can't find where she has ever had three bad tournaments in a row. It seems that in spite of the fact that she has been absent from the winner's circle for 3 years, she is always on the first or second page of the leader board. In fact she has finished in the top twenty 11 times this year already. That is more times than Inbee, Yani, Suzann, and Stacy. That is more times than anyone on the LPGA this year. She has also made 56 consecutive cuts.

Paula's 4th place finish in last week's U.S. Open put her over the 10 million dollar mark in career earnings. She is the 8th player to achieve that feat. She did it in 194 tournaments. Only Lorena Ochoa accomplished it quicker.

How does that stack up against some of today's brightest stars? Let's take a look.

Paula is one classy young lady and a tough competitor. She had problems with her thumb or something the last couple years and fought through it!

She's a good player, got one major already, but I wonder if she's got that extra gear. Thus far she's not shown us that she's got a fifth gear. She doesn't win them in bunches, and hasn't dominated for a meaningful period, unlike say Yani, Stacy and now Inbee. She'll no doubt win more in the coming years but with many new younger rising stars coming out, I wonder if her best years are in the past.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
