Chipping a hybrid?

I just got a Heavenwood 3h today and took it to the range, really dig it so far (I'm VERY new) but I wanted to try some chipping with it and I just couldn't do it at all. I felt like the shaft was just waaay too long, like I'd need to choke down past the grip which felt unpleasant.

Any tips or do I just not have a chip-friendly hybrid?

Maybe its just not for chipping, if your looking for those long shots, try a 5w,3i,4i etc etc.

A 3-iron hyrid probably has 20-23 degrees of loft. That is not enough to hit out rough. All you could do is pop the ball over a foot or two of fringe. Unless the fringe at your home course is extra long you might as well putt it.

At my home course there is a pro... He plays on the champions tour, and uses a hybrid out of the rough. He showed me how to do it too . He said to choke way up, and hold it at an upright angle, almost as if it were a sternum putter, and grip down on the shaft. The try to hit it off the toe of the club, as it would slice through the rough easier and dampen the roll a little bit. He only uses on the fringe or within a foot of the green in the rough. I have used it this way with considerable success.
