I have to get a new bag as well. I was leaning towards Ogio as they have a bag that's like 3.6lbs-but the colors kill me. I would prefer a straight up black bag w/minimal extra colors. Does Ping have extra light bags? I have not seen any in my local golf shops.

Yeah, not so much the case... I live in an urban city, I am around and am friends with all sorts of folks, black, brown, yellow, white (and we shouldn't forget that I am car stealing spic ). Heck Yale is in my city, and you can only imagine the diverse group of people that go there, and are part of the community. For the record, I really didn't take it personally, (I didn't lose sleep over it) I just don't think it's necessary to the thread of any story. I t would be like me saying that I was at the course with 3 white guys and the other white guys and girls-yada,yada,yada. You encounter that rude crap (the yelling and stuff) anywhere. CT is one of the wealthiest states in the US, so I can tell you that there are some fairly shooshy courses to play and I have played at 2 that I can think of that were in very well to do areas and on the holes near the streets had white kids laying on their horns and yelling while our group was putting or hitting. That's no different right? You would agree that that's rude no matter what color those kids where..

Couldn't be truer..I started my league last night but first had lunch with some friends which included 2 glasses of wine. I certainly wasn't drunk, but I felt it on the first tee when I knocked down my tee shot-etc,etc. I don't usually ever drink when I'm playing and most certainly would never do it again. As for weed, I can't say that I've ever encountered that.

What Ball is your favourite?
islandgirl replied to BigDog's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Welcome Big Dog, I use Callaway HX Hot, great for distance and I like their feel around the greens. -
Wilbur Cross HS, New Haven CT Class of 87. AMG how was World Woods? I played it last year, loved it. I preferred Pine Barrens. Thought it was beautiful, especially 15.

LOL! And I'm sensitive? You're a classy guy, I'm surprised they have golf courses in the Trailer Park side of town. Best wishes...
-
Safe, are you kidding?? Couldn't be better Got my canoe, and I'm using my sticks as oars..ha, ha

Yes to both. You know you're addicted when you play and it's freezing , and the weather change..well let's just say that I stomp my feet pretty much all winter (although oddly enough I do ski), and make sure I go somewhere warm at least twice during the winter months.
-
Ok, I know that I'm not a "sensitive" chick (trust me, I've spent the vast majority of my adult life working outside with men), but...do you refer to everyone by their color, their financial status or that they are "itches"???? (yeah, I know you-mispelled)

just wanted to say thanks again to all of you for your tips. I did 2 things yesterday, first I replaced my Odyssey putter with the Ping G5 Craz-e, which at 33" is 2" shorter than my old putter. Then I went to the practice green and PRACTICED for what seemed like an eternity . I used the tips that made sense to me and that I thought I could actually do like the circle drill and GC I put the ball in the middle of my stance, used the tee and pacing off drill as well as used my right foot for reference. The good news? I played 18 today (my orginal intention was to play 9, so I walked 18-what was I thinking? that bag gets heavy after a while !) Anyway, shot an 86 with 7-1 putts, 7-2putts and only 4-3 putts! Now that is exciting!!! Thanks agin all..

Puerto Rico originally, but I l live in CT now. Welcome to the forum and the game or addiction, which ever you prefer

GC- Tks, what you said actually makes sense to me..not just being told to "feel" it. These are things that I can understand and put into practice. Once it warms up here again I'm going right out to try it. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your input-it's appreciated. Laurie
If you are getting/taking advice from fellow golfers and still shooting in the low 90's... now that is impressive! No, you're right. What I meant was if my swing is to quick or if I'm swaying..things that I can fix. You're right, to much advice out there and the waters really get mucked up. I'll try the putting games..anything to try to improve the mess I call putting.

LOL!! No, islandgirl-meaning that I'm orginally from an island...I've been in the States for a loooong time, but still can't get used to the New England weather...But at least we've got the Red Sox!

UGH.....here goes the ugly truth. The distance doesn't seem to matter..I can be utting from 3' or 20'. It usually goes like this..putt#1 goes right and long past the hole, putt#2 is usually short (because now I'm scared to put it past again) then thank god! I'm usually in in 3. My putter is the odyssey white hot xg7, which is fairly new. I used to have the Ping My Day, but I thought I migh benefit from more of a mallet putter...to no avail. It seems as though every time I take a back swing I ground my putter, then it opens up as I swing through..I honestly think I make every putting mistake out there.

The other thing that a good pro will focus on is pitching, chipping and putting. If you score in the 90's now, then learning how to get up and down from anywhere near the green will get you to the 80's, almost guaranteed. Once again calling on Harvey Penick, he always taught a new student from the hole outward. The last club he would let them use was the driver. By the time they got to that point, the swing was fairly well learned, and that made learning the most difficult club in the bag less traumatic.
Rick, Thanks for the advice, I agree that if I could putt, I most certainly would be in the 80's. Getting there isn't the problem (I bought the new driver strictly on impulse, my G2 is long and generally accurate w/a slight fade), and when my swing is off and I get advice on my swing from fellow golfers I can understand what they are trying to tell me, because I understand the swing. So..I guess I'm off to a pro for the short game, but my brain still can't get the concept of the "pendulum" putt stroke. My fear is how will I benefit from a pro if I can't "feel" it, or at the very least understand it so that I can visualize it and put it into action???
-
So...how can you really tell? As I've mentioned, this will be my 3rd season and I consistently score in the low 90's. I started with the PING irons and dirver/fw because that's what someone suggested. I've just learned a difficult and expensive lesson though, as I just bought the Cleveland Hibore XL, and though I hit it in the shop and at the range, once I got it out on the course, couldn't hit it to save my life. So the G2 is officially back in my bag. Now I am considering buying new irons or actually a hybrid/iron set, but how do I really know it will help? And then there's the question of what I really need, since most of my wasted strokes are on putts. (I propbably 3 putt 10 holes on average ) I've committed myself, go to the DR at least once a week, and when weather permits I play at least 3x per week and have certainly seen some improvement. I have not taken lessons yet, as I felt like I needed to get a good understanding and feel of the game before I could comprehend what someones was trying to teach me.

I'm still trying to find rain gear that fits! Around my way I've only been able to find men's raing gear and that's what I wear. In the cold/wind, I've smartened up and gone into my ski bag for a light weight North Face Fleece that I wear under a pullover. What do you guys recommend for your hands though? I just wear a regular golf glove but I find that my hands get stiffer as they get colder... p.s. I played 18 yesterday and it was cold and breezy..found myself doing jumping jacks in between to stay warm

GG-I'm right with you. I'm glad to see women in sports that aren't afraid to be pretty. It does not take away from our competitiveness. And you're right, as an average joe, it is quite the advantage to get out there with the guys and have the advantage of distraction;). As for the reponses, I agree w/Erik, Natalie is on the plastic side, too much make-up and all that bubbliness is too much. Hard to take someone like that seriously. And for my vote, Phil is one FINE brother....

Don't count out the Tampa Fl area. The TPC in Tampa and World Woods which is a 36 hole course are all out of this world. The TPC will break you, but it's still unbelievable, and Worl Woods is just about one of the prettiest courses you'll ever play.

I just hung up my PING G2 15.5* for theCleveland HiBpre XL 10.5*. I had my Ping cut down to 44", and I was ready to get the length back. That being said, I love the newn HiBore XL, but it sure has taken some getting used to. The lower loft especially has proved to be a bit of an obstacle. I used to bitch that my Ping driver wasted to much energy up in the air, and now this one is way "worm burner". (although it still goes about 220-230 yards). Who knows, one day I'll figure it all out.

I'm going to play right now, and will surely try this tip. Tks!
