"1) How long did it take to break 70? If it took you 2 years, was that 2 years from the first time you picked up a golf club, or did you just play around for the first year and then take the second year seriously?" It took me around 4 years the first time. Started late, at age 24 during one year (broke the 90), quit golf for around 4 years, started again for 4 years in a row (broke 80 within a year and a half, then 70 on the next year). Stop for 4 years again :o), then played again for 3-4 years in a very, narrow, up & down fairways forest golf course, very difficult course (top 10 golf ranking in france), and went back to 80s for more than a year. Then back in the 70s for 2-3 years. Stop golf again for over 5 years, then back on the game since 4 years (back in the 80s again for 2-3 years, and around 70 and now low 70 since one year). "2) What methods did you follow? Did you pick and choose from different instructors, books, DVDs, or even just watching tips on the golf channel? Did you follow a single set method/book/DVD/instructor and follow it like it was your bible?" Unfortunately or not, It was never really serious betwenn me & golf, i never took any lesson, only watched good players, VHS tapes and videos, and went often to the range. What was really important for scoring low "on my point of view" was being able to play in tough conditions (wind and rain, up hill, down hill, bad lies...) and try to stay alive at all cost (avoiding as much as possible double & triple... bogeys). Try any stance, grip, swing thechnique... that feels natural to you, do not try to play or swing like the pros, it is important to stay natural as much as possible with a good rythm, if something works fine and you can redo it again & again, even when there is wind, or you are tired or under pressure... then keep it, and use it at its best potential. 3) What does it take to score in the 70s consistently (in your opinion of course)? A consistent swing? A good mental game? 70% mechanics 30% mental? Please share. Most of the time, i see good players with a very nice swing...trying to hit way too hard with almost no strategy, and no management of the risk..., i started scoring low when i admited i was no professional and the 1/100 shot i wanted to try to avoid a bogey or make an eagle... was a mistake. Many golfers only play courses for the great shots they can make (i did it for a long time :o), avoiding to mention, take in consideration (or remember) all the disasters that happen on some holes... that brought them to the 80s or more, always finding excuses, bad luck.... for those horrible shots... Golf is a game of %, like M. Nicklaus used to say (i do strongly agree on this one), most of the time, he won not because he played very well, but only because he managed to make less mistakes tha the other players. Enjoy the greatest game of all :o)

TW has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, strangely, even if he has nothing to prove anymore (Each 5 years of his career would make any other golfer a dream life :o), some of you may be have noticed that he is swinging is in full "hurt" (like a 110%), he does not play flawless, from tee to green, all the shots were mostly as if he wanted to run after something. If he his chasing himself at his best... which would be impossible, because he is different in many ways from 5 years ago, he could get in big trouble, because no teacher, no coach could help, and even if he looks "kool" on interview, he does not seem to play for the joy of the game, and without pressure. Many times, (he rarely did it before) he was watching at the ball before he even strikes it, usually i could remember him with confidence driving, putting or chipping without almost watching the ball, he knew where it was landing... I do not know about yips, but a few totally "relax" rounds could cure it all may be, he possibly needs to play for FUN, and who could blame him for this...

Hi; I did learn by myself (watching vids, TV, reading books, and at the range observing very good players). I did try a lesson once long ago, but as the teacher wanted me to switch righty (it was supposed to be easier, more club to choose...ect) i quit the lesson after 10 minutes. As golf is (was) a bit expensive, my budget went to playing rather than lessons, and i think that if you are normally gifted, a single Hdp is really easy, but being a real scratch player is a totally, far far away different world... On my point of view, it is way more easy to get from 36 to 10 than from 5 to 0. To play single digit (and 0 for sure) what you really need first is TIME, PRACTICE (once a week minimum, every week, in almost any weather conditions, every kind of shot, long and short game, putting, bunkers...) and REGULARITY But if you can afford it, and you find the right Pro to help you, (stay away from free tips of average golfers) even if you are really gifted, it will always go faster and smoother with a good Teacher than alone. At the Residence Tunis Golf Course October N° 2 / Par 3 / 155 Yards to the pin / Water front, then 3 bunkers around the green (left, front right, back) / green 11 Y deep - 25 Y wide / up hill. Match Play 4 Balls (A friend of the other team hit perfect shot less than 2 yards left of the pin, my partner was way right (10 or 11 yards) (Pin is middle right) 1st Shot : 8 Iron ....... Way far too long...... in the back bunker 2nd Shot : Back Bunker Horrible lie almost invisible ball pluged in, 18 feet to the pin, down hill all the way 3 to 4 feet. I asked my partner to put back the pin into the hole, as i told them i would hit a tough straight shot and try to hit the flag to stay close to the hole... "there was really no way to get out and stay on the green from where i was with this horrible lie" ...(everybody laughed out loud, even me lol) And i did it just as mentioned, with a lot , lot, lot of luck of course :o) Hit Straight on the ball with a really strong vertical swing.... flight straight to the pin... hit the pin at 2 feet hight... and BINGO in to the hole. .... 2 UP for our team (as they missed the put, maybe upset by so much luck...) Not to mention that if did not hit the pin, i would have ended far away from the green or into the front bunker...;o)

Thanks Erik. We do have a lot...especially on the puting carpet :o) First i never push him to play (or come), which to my point of view is very important. But i kept silent for 8 month now, he only learned by mimetism, and some questions are starting to rise, and it is difficult being honest and fair with own children's. I just try to keep it simple like : relax / slow down / watch out for your feet (aligment)...since a two weeks... and i just do not want to make mistakes. And also many people around me, by seing him propose to take him to the pro, which i do not want at all... am i correct ?, i want to keep it as a funny thing as much as possible...
