  1. Ok, I have to ask...is there really a water park in San Dimas called "Water Lube"???? Rob
  2. Cool...I figured this had come up before.
  3. In the article, 9th para down I believe. "To his peers, the subject of Sabbatini became radioactive. When Ernie Els was asked if Sabbatini's older brother, whom Els had grown up playing against in South Africa, was like Rory, Els warily answered, "What do you mean?" Normally voluble Steve Flesch took a pass -- "I'm not going to say a word" -- and Tim Clark, who has known Sabbatini since childhood, asked for some time to think about his answer. "It's a delicate subject," he said. In website chat rooms, of course, there was no hesitation. "Rory's an idiot," was a typical post on TheSandTrap.com. "Spit out your gum. Learn how to dress. Shut your pie hole.""
  4. I was reading this article when I came across a reference to the site: http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/2007/11/sabbatini Just thought it was pretty cool. Apologize if this is old news. Rob
  5. Ok, just to follow up on this thread. I finally broke down and bought one of these shirts. $51.90, including basic shipping. You can find them at this website: http://www.cooltan.com/shirtafct.htm Basically, the shirt is awesome. The quality is good, and I expect the shirt to last a while. The best part of wearing it on the course is that the material is extremely light. So I stay very cool, and the material also works well at wicking away moisture. IMHO, better than clima-cool and similar product lines. After a round, I just wash it in the sink and let it air dry. Dries very quickly. The insert that came with the shirt said it functions like a 30spf sunscreen, so you don't just get toasted out there. And no, I have no interest in the company. But I'll definitely buy another one. Rob
  6. Amen, regarding day jobs. Life is important, though. "Sufficient unto the day..." - Rob
  7. I don't know, i-Guy: I see that you voted for C. But I gotta tell you, that diagram absolutely screams "D player". lol.
  8. Metallica - Orion
  9. Verplank was preparing to hit his approach shot into the 13th green. The ball was above his feet at like a 30 degree angle, and the wind was gusting and rain was falling. He grounded his club behind the ball and prepared to take his stance. As he was working through his routine, the ball moved 1-2 inches. He attributed the move to the elements...the rules guys ended up giving him a 1-stroke penalty. What was interesting about the whole deal was that Verplank sat there arguing (which is really too strong a word) with the rules official, and he ended up playing 2 balls into the green. The final decision on the penalty wasn't made until he concluded his round. What was also interesting was that Rory Sabbatini was his playing partner, and had to sit there for 25 minutes while all of this was going on! Finally, Faldo asks, "Has anybody seen Rory? He's probably on like, hole 16!" It was pretty funny.
  10. I had to vote 3, because I really have no idea. I'm not familiar enough with the rules, and there was no video of the incident. The announcers seemed to think it was pretty straightforward: he incurred a penalty. I was, however, in agreement with Verplank in that, regardless of whether he addressed the ball or not, if he did not cause the ball to move, he shouldn't be assessed a penalty. But you have to admit, Nick Faldo's comment about Sabbatini was absolutely classic. Rob
  11. $125/month for a membership at a local club. Unlimited play, so is worth it. That deal, however, is a student rate. (I'm a 2L, Big_M). I justify it because I spend almost no money on clubs, balls, or gloves, and I almost always walk. A new course just opened on the site of an apartment complex. Some nationwide developer goes around building these huge residential complexes with sports facilities, golf courses, etc...and residents get to play free. I'll probably check that out once I'm working, again to save money. It will also be nice to "live" on a golf course for once in my life;) The nicest public course in our area runs ~$46 for 18 with a cart, on a weekend. I really can't justify spending that much on a round of golf. $28 is about the most I'd spend for 18. The only other expense I have is range balls. I'm a sucker for a $5 night trip to Ol' Colony's range! Rob
  12. Titleist 983E. 350cc head. Very long. Great club. Have one in the bag. Here's one for $40: http://www.globalgolf.com/product/go...983e.aspx?gd=3
  13. My roommate's a scratch and has had 7. How sick is that?
  14. Thanks, everybody. Pretty cool (and surprising) to see the results of the poll. I'm always catching flack from my foursome for this, so now I can point out that they are the minority!
  15. TourSpoon, you are doing better than I am. I could never relax knowing that my 60 degree and my putter were co-mingling. That would absolutely drive me crazy. But it is nice to know that I'm not suffering alone. But I gotta be able to control something on the golf course, you know? Rob
  16. You've just hit a 7-iron off the tee into a stiff breeze on a level, 195-yard par 3. (You are a good ball-striker, by the way ) You walk back to your bag to return the club and head to the green. Do you: a. Nonchalantly toss the club back in the bag with no thought of a specific location, because it is just a big, open free-for-all in there? b. Put the club into whichever divider happens to have a free spot, not worrying too much about mixing wedges with irons and such, because you know your clubs don't recognize class distinctions? c. Put the club back into the exact same divider it was in, as each of your clubs has a very specific home to go to and it would feel lost otherwise? d. Not only put the club back into the exact same divider it was in, but place it in the exact same location amongst the other clubs within that divider, just because everything has to be in its right place! I have to admit that I myself have a duel personality: C-player on the course, but a D-man when the bag is at the house. I have a very specific location for each club in my titleist bag. The bag has 6 divisions, and if you were facing the bag as it stands now in my bedroom, you would see 1st divider (very top) - mizuno blade putter. extremely old and graying, she relies on some lead tape to get her through the long, cold nights. placed so that the flange rests snugly over the lower partition. that way she can keep an eye on the younger generation. 2nd divider (top right) - titleist driver and 3-iron. these are the 2 clubs I hit the least, so they generally just keep one-another company most rounds. 3-iron outboard of the driver, just so folks know its there... 3rd divider (top left) - mizuno f-50 3-wood. this club is such a player that it gets its own private bungalow, as it is coming and going at all hours of the day. it knows how cool it is. 4th divider (bottom right) - [from right to left] --> 4-iron, 5-iron, 6-iron. ah, the mid-irons. my favorite tenants. always pay on time and never throw wild parties. 5th divider (bottom left) - [from right to left] --> 7-iron, 8-iron, 9-iron. good kids, though notwithout their own quirks. 7 is at that age where he thinks he knows everything, so he sometimes gets in over his head. as the middle child, precocious 8 is not quite sure who he is, and some days he goes 165, while somedays only 145. the little guy just needs to find himself. and 9? she is always trying to prove that she's better than P-wedge, and she's usually right! she'll go far in life. 6th divider (very bottom) - PW, 52-degree GW, 56-degree SW, and 60-degree LW. the wedges....the workhorses. I don't really ask them what they do in there, because they always find a way to get things done, and truthfully i really don't want to know...lol Hope everyone has a great holiday! Rob in T'town --> bored this morning, because all the students have left town, and not yet time to hang with the family
  17. FYI, every so often GlobalGolf.com will have a set of cg1 bp's in great condition for ~$400. - Rob
  18. Thanks for the responses. I am with inXane, in that I hate seeing someone just drop the flag on the green, or even worse toss it laterally. However, if no damage is done to the green, and if the consensus is that dropping is not poor etiquitte, I won't worry about it anymore. I'll still do my thing, which is to put the butt-end on the ground, drop the flag and catch it with my foot, then let it roll off. As an aside, golf is such a peculiar sport. So much emphasis on etiquitte, and yet something that at first blush appears quite rude would actually not be a problem for most golfers. However, Rory walking ahead of a slow golfer (who was threatened with a penalty) generates uniform criticism among golfers, while most lay observers would not realize the issue. Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Rob
  19. Is it poor etiquitte to drop a flag on the green, as opposed to laying it down? I've always thought this the case, as I thought it damaged the green, but I recently played with a very good, experienced player who did the same. What's the consensus? Thanks, T
  20. Hey Mark. My name is Rob and I'm a student at Alabama. I'm from the B'ham area, but I spent a good deal of time in Dothan as a kid, as my mother is from Dothan. Good memories of Water World. Rob

  22. Iacas, I saw your post on the hybrid poll regarding the 503.u, and the associated article you hyperlinked. Has there been any new information out on the club since 2006? Thanks, Rob
  23. Turkish, I think this website is very instructive: http://www.golftoday.co.uk/proshop/tuition/lesson2.html Best info I've found outside of Hogan's book, anway. Lynchjo - Nice job conditioning the instruction on proper grip found in Hogan's book. You make an important point, imho. Good luck, Turkish. However, don't expect the change to feel natural for a long time. Jody Vasquez wrote a great book about the relationship he developed over several decades with Hogan. He started out shagging balls for Hogan in his teens, and remained in contact with Mr. Hogan throughout the rest of his life. Vasquez relates a story in the book wherein a well-known golfer received a tip from Byron Nelson regarding his grip. The golfer implemented the change, and it improved his game, but it took him two years to become accustomed to the change! So don't feel bad if it takes a little while to feel natural. Anyway, let us know how it goes. - Rob
  24. Well, I say the slots don't go to the bottom. But check out this description from the website: "14 Individual Full Length Dividers." Maybe the new models have full-length dividers?
  25. I play this bag by datrek: http://www.datrek.com/product.jsp?id=230 14 slots. Slots don't go all the way to the bottom, but that's never been an issue. I think it is a good bag. Rob
