Beginners question - Would a tour driver help control the power slices?
maradona10 replied to mailman's topic in Golf Talk
Hi Mailman. I am not going to pretend I know the full physics of the golf swing, because I simply dont but I had a power slice with my driver for quite sometime and it was rather frustrating not being able to put myself in a position from the tee. I am the same as you, 3 wood does not have slices. I was told once that while at address, pull your left foot back slightly, I reluctantly tried a few times and my drives became straighter and straighter over time. Dont aline both feet to the left which would encourage a fade/cut, only the left foot. To prove it worked, I put my feet to normal position once and the slices came back, this was done after months of putting the tip into practice and it worked endlessly. It is far from orthodox but I can assure you it worked for me. You will probably get more qualified advice from other members but this is just from one member to another who had the same problems -
I do yes, I use swing by swing golf. I didnt download it specifically for scoring, I wanted it for re-assurance of yardage from 150 inwards so I just ended up using it for scoring and putt progression.

I can strike the ball relatively well but one thing I do think about at address is "adjust" the sole of my irons to be as flush with the ground as possible. I am a little smaller than the average player (I think, 5'6") and the shafts are standard but at my preferred address position and wrist angles the sole of the club is not flat and I do sometimes cock my wrists outwards to flatten the sole, I dont need to do it by much. Understand that this position will likely have to be maintained all the way to swing completion though. Any suggestions? Custom fitting is the easy option of course.

Buying my first set of "real" clubs
maradona10 replied to maradona10's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Found this post I made last year just before I bought my John Letter T8 set, I am not trying to sell them and was doing some research into used sets online and came across this haha. I did end up breaking 100 quite quickly with them, average is now 85 on certain courses and broke 80 for the first time last weekend. I know this is not all to do with the club. I am a small guy (5ft 5in) and going to go to look at possible custom fitting, the lie angle on standard length clubs is quite high and I dont like chocking down the grip to compensate the angle. -
3ft from the cup ..... "your not giving me that? like that is it?"

Mallet Finger = Golfing with a Splint on.
maradona10 replied to natedude76's topic in Fitness and Exercise
Personally I would stay from the course, I am not sure what a splint on the finger is but by the sounds of it you would need to alter your grip to allow for the splint and it could affect how you play after it is taken off. I am on the same boat, after my operation later in the year I will be in a cast for 12 weeks so I will not be able to play and will be completely isolated from the range/course but I do have my PS3 and Tiger Woods :) -
Hello I discovered earlier in the year that I've been living with a fractured right hand wrist for quite sometime, I've had severe pain for a number of years but my GP told me it was probably a sprain (thats British National Health for you). After getting it x-rayed the surgeon seen it was fractured quite badly and did not heal. There is also a small element of arthritis in the wrist because it was untreated. After two consultations I have been convinced that a "partial fusion" on the wrist is the best option with the highest success rate although the doctor said that I wouldn't thank him if he was to operate now, I should rather wait until the pain is too much and I cannot do anything on a daily basis, golf included. Now to the potential issues I may have, once the operation is done I will have even more of a restricted movement in the wrist than I have at the moment and I was wondering if this will have serious implications in my golf swing? When I refer to movement in the wrist I mean how it is shown in the picture. Thats as far as I can bend it FYR. Has anyone possibly had a similar procedure done?

Buying my first set of "real" clubs
maradona10 replied to maradona10's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Thanks for your replies. So am I being completely ignorant to think that these clubs are not effecting my game in anyway? An iron with no grip or torque which surely effects direction and distance? I am not trying to convince myself that new clubs are the way forward by I would be amazed if new clubs with a little more distance and fresh grips wont help in some element. I admit, lessons will likely have to follow but these clubs certainly do not inspire any confidence at address. -
In my limited time involved in the sport (7 months) I have only every lost the plot once on the course. It was a quiet afternoon, no one else around except my playing partner and going up the fairway my mind just went and I frisbee'd my PW up the fairway. I felt ashamed immediately but it stemmed from the annoyance that I knew I could hit the shot and that low irons are my favourite most reliable club. Needless to say I putted out for a 12.

Hiya, hope this is in the right section of the forum? If not, my apologies. I took up the game seriously in February and have not turned back since, I am pretty much addicted. I was given a set from a guy in work who had them lying around the house, they used to belong to his dad. Its a Regal Golf Set, 3-SW, rather old, grips are pretty much non existent and god knows what has happened to the torque on the shafts over the last 15 years or so. My driving, 3W & 5W are a Dunlop steel shaft set I was sold for a sum of £30, which has got me used to hitting them so I am not fussed about the cost. So all in all its pretty much a patched up set. I have played around 6 rounds so far this year, bringing my score down to an acceptable 111 on a par 68 municipal course. Now I am at the stage where I don't feel comfortable playing with them and I want to invest in a set which will obviously reduce my scoring. I am close to buying a set of John Letters T8 Hybrid set (link below) which have been highly recommended by a mid handicapper, price is £200 and the guys will custom fit them for me. Worse case scenario they will adjust the lie angle and snip something from the shaft but the pro at John Letters said that my size was the same as his and that adjustments would be minimal. http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/golf_irons/john_letters/t8_hybrid_iron_set_golf_irons/p11454 Anyway my point, am I over thinking? Is it too much to hope that these clubs will help? Surely I am limited to what I can score with an old set of clubs which I do not think are easy to handle and hit golf balls with. Hope my rant will pay of with some good advice :)

Callaway FT Irons (Original or Wide Sole)
maradona10 posted a topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hiya Still very much at the grooving my swing stage however, cant do much without an iron set Recently sold my Mizuno Zoid Pro II (Musclebacks) set because I was sold them with jumbo grips (which I wasnt aware of at point of sale) so I am now looking to invest in a set and stick with them until I am nothing less than a mid handicapper. I seen a 3-SW set of used original Callaway FT for sale yesterday (£275), never played with graphite shafts before but it felt extremely comfortable. I've read further into it and apparently the wide sole FT irons are actually easier to hit than the originals and I've spotted a set of them available on EBay. If it helps give advice, I am 5'6", working on slowing my down swing speed down dramatically to improve contact. I just wanted to know if these clubs are as forgiving as what a lot of the reviews say they are and of course an ideal set of weapons for a beginner to develop their game with and keep for around 5 years. Sorry if I have missed vital information out. -
Hiya all, this is my current situation with the clubs. Started out seriously for the first time on 06/02 and been to the range on average 4 days out of 7 each week since then. With the assistance of the guy that runs the range I've developed what I believe is the correct grip (still too tense though) but at the moment I am working on mainly 5 ~ 9 irons and trying to keep my left arm as straight as possible on back swing (I bent arm far too often at beginning of swing). My through swing is far from reliable at the moment, one minute I am hitting 10 balls in a row really sweetly then it all goes pear shaped from there, it just feels as if I am trying too hard and it doesnt feel relaxed. Thats where I am

Hiya everyone I've opted for this site as my first golfing forum, at a glance it looks very detailed and impressive. I've very much learning the ropes of the game at the moment so go east on me Cheers all Dave
