Asher gloves on sale this week
mikefjohnson posted a topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Asher has some stuff on sale this week, including their Leather Birdy glove for $5. I bought four of these last yr when they were on for $5, great glove! http://ashergloves.com/collections/2012-blowout/products/birdy -
You're welcome. I have a friend who works at Golftwon and the cheapest he could them was $425 + tax. I almost bought this set of the ebay seller, but then my wife bought me new irons, and that is the only reason I didn't get them.

I have heard good things and I went to took at them in person, and I think they're a super nice. One thing to consider, they are $500 at Golftown plus tax, so total of $570. There is a very reputable seller on ebay selling them for $345 plus $36 shipping. They use USPS, and I can tell you from tons of shipping from U.S. to Canada experience, that oustide of taxes, I have never been hit with any additional fees when using USPS. So at worst you would pay $345 plus tax, $393 plus $36 shipping, so a total of $429, which is a $140 dollar savings. It is a buy it now item, so the price will not go up. A lot of times I used USPS and have not even been charged taxes, so the savings could be even greater! http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=110661421804

Obviously were talking the original SF, not the 2.0 right? Even still, the original is still selling for $200 bucks, so yes, pull the trigger!

callaway diablo edge irons vs x24 hots
mikefjohnson replied to franky21's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just bought new irons and was considering the X-24s, Wilson Staff Ci9s and the TM R9s. I quickly eliminated the Callaways as they just don't sit well for me (thick top line, and the the Callaway irons always seem to have such a long head), plus the wear issue. So it came down to the Staffs and the TMs. Ultimately went with the TMs as they are really nice at setup, just the right amount of offset and head size (for me), but the Wilsons are super nice too. Haven't hit them on course yet, but they are said to be crazy forgiving and long, but still workable. I'm about a 12 hdcp, so they just suited my game the best of the three. -
callaway diablo edge irons vs x24 hots

I have read on several forums that the finish does indeed wear off very quickly. I looked at a brand new set at a local store that were on the rack, never hit. The finish was already wearing just from people handling the clubs. They look good brand new, but again, I researched these irons a little while ago, and one of the universal points that always came up was issues with how quickly the finish wears off. -

How do you feel about buying clubs online?
mikefjohnson replied to golf4tito's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Just another example of prices online. Just bought a set of R9 irons 4-GW for $420.00 from a reputable ebay seller. They are currently on sale for $698 at Golftown (Canada's biggest retailer). So after taxes I saved about $300. Hard to argue with that!! -
Wilson CI9 vs TM R9 vs Callaway X-24 Hot irons
mikefjohnson replied to mikefjohnson's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
So what set found their way into your bag? -
and was comparing the TM R9, Wilson Ci9 and Callaway Hot X-24 irons. Had kids in tow, so was only doing an esthetic check today. Didn't like the X-24s, like all Callaway clubs, just don't like how long the heads seem to be. Also don't like the uniflex shaft and the grips were less than good. Also noticed that the clubs had wear evident to the finish, just from sitting in the rack and having them handled by customers. Now the TMs and Wilson's were very nice in the flesh. I compared every club side by side and reports seem true that the Staffs are 1/4" longer. The heads were very similiar (shape, size, offset, topline). The Wilsons really had a square shaped Gap wedge, but the rest of the irons seemed extremely similar to the TMs. I can get the Staffs for about $70 cheaper, but on paper the TMs are worth bout $200 more (something to consider if I trade them in, as TMs hold their resale better). Wondering if anybody has any experience with the shafts in the Ci9s, FST SS105 Stepless Steel ???? The TMs have the proven KBS 90 shafts.

Hard to feel sorry for you. After rain all day Wed and Thurs which melted all the snow (Toronto area), got hit with another 5 inches or so Friday!!!! So while you're waiting for your club, I'm just waiting for the damn grass to appear!

Hi all, thinking of upgrading to one these sets and looking for any feeback. From all the reviews it seems like the TM and Callways are long and forgiving, but not so workable. CI9 seems to be more workable, but maybe not as long or forgiving since it is kind of a mix between a players and Game Improvement club. I can get all for similiar price right now, so cost isn't really a determining factor, but the Callaways do seem about $50 more. I'm a mid handicapper (10-12ish) who doesn't really struggle with control. Would I like more distance, sure. One thing I found with clubs with a large offset is I tend to draw the ball too much. Never slice my irons, like ever. I am only interested in workability when stuck behind a tree, otherwise long and straight will do just fine :). Any insights on the three sets? I like the look of all these clubs. I know some don't ilke the looks of the R9s and CI9s, but I for one think they are both attractive. Also, I heard the standrard length of the Wilsons is like an inch longer, anyone know if that is true, cause I'm only 5'8. Thanks

I don't why, well maybe price, but I really seem to like clubs from the not so big companies. I currently have a nickent hybrid and driver, Wilson Staff putter and fairway wood, and Macgregor MT Mid irons. Seems like the only big name clubs I sport are my Vokey Spin Milled wedges. Now I know all these companies were very big at one one time, but that is no longer the case. It seems that these companies have all the technology and features of the bigger boys offereings, but because they have little or no tour pro representation, prices seem to be much more manageable, and performance does not suffer. The Wilson Kirk Currie putter I have is truely the nicest putter I hve ever seen or played with, and my irons are as good as any other I've used. Prior to my Macgregors I played Ben Hogan Apex Edge irons for about 8 yrs, and again thy were awesome. Now I know Hogans were big once, hell it seems half the tour was putting the Big Ben when it first came out, but today Hogan has fallen off. I think Wilson Staff make some of the nicest irons in the market, but again, no hype so not much recognition. Just wondering what some of you others think about these lesser know, quality companies. Also seems like Tour Edge is really big in Asia, but not North America, and their fairways metals and hybrids seem to be some of the nicest out there!

How do you feel about buying clubs online?
mikefjohnson replied to golf4tito's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I buy almost all my clubs online (ebay) and have had nothing but good experiences. As long as you buy from a highly rated seller with many tansactions (like the one selling the clubs you're looking at) you should be just fine. I live in Canada and the Adams 9064ls driver is selling for 399. You can buy it in the States for 299. I just bought one off Ebay (Global Golf, huge seller) for 199 band new. You just can't beat the prices you find on Ebay. Never had clubs fitted I bought online. -

I definately hit my 7 iron 150. I'm not one to boast about inflated yardages, hell I admitted to hitting mt driver 215 yds! As mentioned, kinda fall back on my driver and don't transfer my weight to my front foot, but I don't do this with my irons. Really weird because I use to pipe my 3 iron 210 off the tee (don't have a 3 in my current set), then I woul pull out my driver and hit it no longer. -

mikefjohnson replied to mikefjohnson's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think you're spot on. I kinda lean back when I'm coming thru the hitting zone which adds loft to the club and also robs me of distance because I don't transfer my weight thru the ball. I don't do this with other clubs, and its sucks to know what you're doing wrong, but still can't correct it. Its been so long since I have drove the ball consistently well, that I almost forgot how it feels. I play to about a 10-12 right now, and I am positive I would be a single digit handicap if I even had 30 yds more distance off the tee, which isn't asking alot to hit the driver 240-250, especially considering I am still physically quite able and in good shape. I'm good with the irons and putting is insanely good, just the damn big stick! -

I tend to hit a high ball that spins way too much and falls out of the sky, and the monitor I went too indicated the exact same thing. -

anyone? -
Hi there, could anyone please help me figure out proper shaft/head combo for my next driver. I know the first suggestion will be to go to a monitor and get fitted, and I will at sometime, but I’m looking for any insight you could all provide with the information I provide. First some background. I have a relatively low driver swing speed of around 85-90 MPH. I don’t struggle with accuracy at all, distance on the other hand is my nemesis. When I do miss the fairway, it’s usually to the left (I’m a righty), and usually not a hook, but more of a pull. The one time I went to a launch monitor I was hitting 9.5/10.5 regular flex drivers, and one thing I really remember is my spin rate was far too high, like high 3000s. This is also evident in real life, as I hit the ball high and it seems to drop out of the sky with no roll. And when I say drop out of the sky, I’m not talking the balls the climb high and seem to travel forever then drop, I’m talking travelling high and falling far too soon and usually netting me only around 215ish. I have never had a problem getting the ball in the air. I currently play a Nickent 9.0 deg 4dx Evolver with a Reg flex Aldila DVS shaft. I actually like the trajectory of this club, but again distance isn’t there. I am currently considering the Cobra S2, Nike Machspeed Black round model, Adams 9064LS with the Aldila RIP Gamma (Alpha doesn’t come in reg flex), Adams Ultra-Light 4G with the Bassara UL 44g shaft, Adams 9064LS custom built with a Bassara UL 44g shaft. So here is my conundrum, I think the Adams drivers will help add a couple of MPH, but will the Gamma shaft launch too high? I would really like the lower launching Alpha, but I don’t think my swing speed could handle a stiff. I have read the RIP shafts in the 9064LS are the real deal, so I am certainly attracted to that. The Bassara is also a premium shaft, but is 44g too light, and a torque rating of 5 too high? Of the two heads, seems like the 9064 is lower spinning, which I would think I need. Is it possible that the 9064 head with the light Bassara shaft could be the best for my slower controlled high spin swing? The Nike comes with the fubuki shaft, but it seems it is a “made for”, and not near as good as the actual fubuki shaft, in fact the nike shaft has a torque rating of almost 7 and the actual fubuki of the same model is around 3 or 4, so a completely different shaft. So what I think I need is a light low spin club head to help with speed, and I need to pair this with a shaft that is light enough to again help me generate club head speed. So I humbly ask you all, of the drivers listed what makes the most sense, and what other help could you all provide. One last thing, my distance in my irons is pretty close to most the players I golf with, 150 yd 7 iron and move up or down 10 yds through the iron set, but when it comes to my Driver and fairway wood I lose considerable distance with my partners. I don’t knowingly change my swing, but somehow I seem to be putting way too much spin on the ball. HELPPPPP!!!!!!!
