At what point did PHIL become so popular?
henniebogan1966 replied to Todd Ruggere's topic in Tour Talk
Oh, another name-caller. What a man you are. No, Tiger is not my favorite golfer, never has been, never will be. I don't defend him as there's nothing to defend. I just look at his playing record, which is all that concerns me. I'll leave the rest to all of you who take such an interest in all he does and says. I'm sure we'll continue hearing from you guys as soon as he makes his next statement. -

Yeah, I heard the bookies in Vegas loved him for years! LOL -

So once again you level an accusation you can't prove and now because I've proven you wrong on your issue, you are taking it personally and you have decided that name-calling is the way to handle your frustration. How sad for you. -
Is The Masters "easy" for Tiger Woods to win?
henniebogan1966 replied to henniebogan1966's topic in Tour Talk
Where did Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson finish? Oop!!! LOL -
A frequent poster on this site has made the claim that Tiger Woods "c" game is as good as other players' "a" game at Augusta, therefore making it easier for him to compete for the win at Augusta. Therefore, his performances at Augusta cannot be used to gauge where his swing or his game are at. So my question is this. If The Masters is easy for Tiger, then surely it was VERY easy for Jack who won 6 or Arnold who won 4. I mean it stands to reason that men who won as many or more than Tiger has there had it just as easy right? What say you golf fans? Here is the quote in question from the aforementioned poster. Originally Posted by sean_miller What I'm saying is that Tiger's C at Augusta is the equivalent of most qualifier's B+ game and his B game is as good or better than all but the top player's A+ game. There's really not much more to say about Augusta (for me anyway) than that.

You haven't provided anything that needs to be disputed. You've made a CLAIM that winning at Augusta for Tiger is easier than it is for most other pro golfers. You've yet to actually PROVE that, but you did opine that. So there's nothing for me to disprove as you're yet to PROVE what YOU said. I'm telling you that if you were to ask Tiger, Jack, or Arnold if winning The Masters was every easy, that they'd disagree. So, when you've gotten THOSE answers from THOSE players, then we can talk. Until then, you're right. Nothing new to report. -
Westwood and Rory not playing in the players?
henniebogan1966 replied to franky21's topic in Tour Talk
Kaymer can reclaim the #1 spot with a win this weekend and he's in good position so far. But I would really like to see an American win this thing. Had high hopes for Dustin Johnson but he is clearly not on his game these days. New caddy (Joe LaCava: Freddie's former caddy) is on the bag and in the long term, this should be a good pairing. IF DJ lets it go long enough. But I'd really like to see Phil get it together this week, but he really gave back way too many shots today over just silly swings. Would really like to see him go back to the stratetgy that worked for him when he was with Rick Smith. -

1. I did no such thing at TGCDB. What I TRIED to bring to that discussion board was some sense of sanity and truth. I can't help it that you (whoever you are; I notice you won't admit to your handle there. Why not?) and your brethren so hated Tiger Woods that you couldn't get beyond your hatred of him to have a reasonable discussion about him. 2. The rumors of Phil in the lockeroom aren't new and have persisted for years. I said I don't know it to be true but it's been rumored. He also had his run-in with Vijay when Vijay accused Phil of intentionally spiking up greens at an event and that it came to blows in that lockerroom. Again, whether or not that's true, I don't know, but it was reported at the time by TGC that it happened. 3. Clearly Phil, when he wants something, isn't afraid to speak out. I take you back to the Ping Zing 2 controversy when he played an illegal wedge all because USGA wouldn't approve his new Callaway wedges for play. Instead of handling it behind the scenes in a classy way, he decided to take it public. Fair enough. During one of his first statements, Phil HIMSELF ADMITTED that in his view, the Zing 2 wedges were illegal. HE ADMITTED TO IT!!! Yet, persisted in playing a club HE believed to be illegal until he got his way. Point is, Phil isn't perfect. He's just a man; just like Tiger. And like it or not, he'll NEVER, and I mean NEEEEEVVVEERRRRR catch Tiger's record. And I know that REALLY steams you Phil fans to no end!!!! LOL -

Heart attack? Me? Hardly. I'm laid up recovering from hernia (2 of them) surgery yesterday. I don't care what people say so long as it's the truth. I take issue with people who spread lies and innuendo as truth. Just like the Dr. Galea thing. Maybe it's true. But until it's proven to BE true, it's not. Maybe Tiger has been doping for 10 years or more. If he has, he's done so under the watchful eye of Tim Finchem and The PGA Tour to include their vaunted drug testing. So if true, then look no further than the holier than thou set running The PGA Tour who claim to stand for a gentleman's game, and spirit of the rules and all. LOL -

Then people shouldn't use words like 'god' or 'perfect' if it's not what they mean. Words have an impact. Words mean things. When someone says "people saw Tiger as a god." Well what the heck is anyone supposed to think except that someone or several out there in the media were making references to him as such. If not, then people shouldn't make the statements that he was referred to that way. If people in the media were saying that Tiger had the perfect family life, but that's not what they REALLY meant, then they should never have made such statements. It's not my fault or Tiger's fault if they made erroneous or untrue statements that were not based in fact. Again, it sounds to me like guys like you are upset that the media didn't do their homework, didn't expose Tiger for what he really was, and that you guys bought into the hype of this 'perfect family life' issue. It didn't upset me a bit. Surprise me? Yes. Because I tend to think the best in people not the worst. But then, I'm not in the media so it's not my job to report the TRUTH instead of the melancholy about alleged heroes of sport. Again, your issue is with the media, not me. -
Westwood and Rory not playing in the players?
henniebogan1966 replied to franky21's topic in Tour Talk
I feel bad for Rory as he had his hands on The Masters Trophy (yes the glass trophy of the clubhouse that the winner gets along with the green jacket) and he let it slip away with seemingly one swing. Peter Jacobsen eluded to that last night during Golf Talk on TGC. That he believes that if Rory pipes the drive on #10 that he wins. I tend to agree with that as that swing set alot of other bad swings in motion. But the fact remains that this is the deepest field of the year and Rory and Lee both passed on a great opportunity. To what end we don't know yet, but in my opinion it's their loss. This is a great event, played on a great golf course, and we'll have a very deserving (hopefully American) winner this weekend. Unfortunately I'm laid up with 2 repaired hernias that I just had operated on yesterday so I'm watching from the comfort of my bed for the next couple of weeks as I heal back up. -

And who were those people who said Tiger as a god or had the perfect family? Oops, THE MEDIA!!!! And you guys BOUGHT IT!!!! It's the media YOU GUYS are mad at not Tiger. Tiger suckered you, the rest of the suckers out there, and the media. This is EXACTLY why I will continue to say that pro athletes are NOT role models. The media TELLS YOU, and you guys believe it. Stop believing everything you're reading from the media. The media is not your friend, nor do they care if what they print is actually true. They are merely making sure they keep their jobs by providing stories, be they true, slightly skewed, or outright lies. After years of watching the media be manipulated by politicians and in some cases even carrying the water for politicians, I've learned to not trust, but verify. -
By far, the haters are the worst.
-
True enough that these guys sometimes support their home tours more than they do The PGA Tour, which is a shame. The PGA Tour is the gold standard of professional golf and has been since it's creation. I don't begrudge these guys supporting their home tours, but clearly they are NOT playing against the best week in and week out. So while the rankings might say they are # whatever, it doesn't mean they are always facing the best competition in the world of professional golf.

Westwood and Rory not playing in the players?
henniebogan1966 replied to franky21's topic in Tour Talk
Personally I think that Westwood is ducking this tournament after his bad memories from last year. Had it in his grip and choked it away. Oh well. I'm enjoying it so far, watched most of the first round today and will watch most of the second round tomorrow. Loved the coverage on TGC and the switching up of commentators. Was good hearing different voices from time to time and it gave a nice change of pace. Like that Watney is up there again as well as Glover. I'm hoping that Phil can put together a big round tomorrow and get back into this after giving away so many opportunities today. I'd love to see an American win this thing going away and it'd be great to see Watney or even Glover win this thing if Phil can't. -

Who EVER said he was perfect? I'll wait for your response on that part. With me what you'll find is I prefer facts to hyperbole, and just plain lies. I don't care for people who spread lies as truth and bash anyone who challenges their lies. As for Tiger being bigger than golf, who EVER said that? I certainly never did. Nor did anyone I've ever come into contact with over the years. Did he in some ways transcend the game at certain moments? Perhaps. Bigger than the game? Nope! How did Tiger benefit from the media if they had a contentious relationship with him and he was uncooperative with them? It seems to me that both aren't possible. You can't be difficult and uncooperative with the media and yet benefit from their support if you aren't actually cooperating with them right? Either he didn't cooperate and they had a contentious relationship, or they had a great relationship that he directly benefitted from. Tell me something. Which golf writer was responsible for landing his deal with Titleis, then Nike? Or how about Tag Hauer. Or GM? Or American Express? Certainly if Tiger benefitted from the media, they must have had something to do with his getting one or more of these deals right? I mean when these companies did their due diligence on Tiger, I'm sure they went straight to the media reports and relied only on their reporting to ink their deals with Tiger right? See how ridiculous that all sounds? It's why I keep saying to you that the media did NOT make Tiger, but that Tiger and yes, "his people" made him. They might have USED the media to get their message out, but the media itself did not MAKE Tiger. Never have, never will. As for bringing him down, again, all Tiger. HE did it to himself, and not the media. -
Those players are making the choice to cash fat appearance fee checks instead of playing against the best here in the states. Again, not really my problem.

This isn't about me. Let me help you out. Back at Augusta Tiger Woods injured his MCL and his achilles heel. After that he underwent treatments on his injuries to prepare him for his next event, which was to have been the tournament at Quail Hollow. Unfortunately, he was unable to compete and had to withdraw from the event before it began. This week he played he hit balls for the first time since Augusta on this Monday. On Tuesday he played a practice round and appeared to be ready to go. On the first tee today, Tiger said he reinured his knee and that both it and his achilles got progressively worse during the front nine, forcing his withdrawal after completion of his front nine. As of right now, he's not sure as to the extent of the damage done to his knee until he sees his doctor and they provide a diagnosis as to the severity of the injury and the length of time it will take for him to recover. So as of right now there is no indication or timetable for his return to competition. Hope this helps.

At what point did PHIL become so popular?
henniebogan1966 replied to Todd Ruggere's topic in Tour Talk
1. Right now, he's the anti-Tiger. He fist bumps and smiles his way around the golf course, signs autographs before and after, and pays good money when clunks some unsuspecting fan in the left rough. 2. He's the everyman who doesn't know when to back off and play smart and hackers love that about him. They love, for some odd reason, how he can turn a 66 into a 71, like he did today. I guess it makes them feel better about their pitiful games that a guy like him can hack it up just like they do. 3. He's got that aw shucks, perfect family brand and image going right now at a time when some golf fans seem to need that. I don't. I don't care what these guys do off the golf course or how they're viewed by the media or fans. I watch for good golf on great venues. I watch for the drama we sometimes get. I watch for the great shots and the moments when guys become a big deal. In the end, people love the good guy, which is what Phil appears to be, but I would caution you and everyone else that there have been persistent rumors that off camera and in the locker room that Phil is a much different person. -
1. I'm not a fan of Tiger Woods. I find his actions off the golf course and sometimes those on the golf course as despicable and unacceptable. That position does however, not preclude me from respecting what he's accomplished as a player. One of the best in the game's history, Period! 2. Once again I'll state that I don't care what events players do or don't play in but again, that does not preclude me from commenting on the ones players choose to forego, especially when it's one of the biggest events of the year. Rory made a mistake as did Westwood, but they have their own agendas at play and I wish them both well. Their OWGR will suffer for it, as it should, but at least each will cash a nice appearance check. 3. And lastly. The PGA Tour is where the best in the world play week in and week out. Sometimes the fields are better overseas, but by and large the PGA Tour is where they ALL eventually want to play to gauge just how good they are. Westwood backed into the #1 slot having never won a big event on The PGA Tour. Kaymer, on the other hand, earned his way there. Tiger, when he was there, had more than earned his way there. and by a very wide margin. I can't help it that for 13 years the man dominated the world of golf and let most others in his wake. Talk to THEM about why THEY weren't any better than they were, starting with Phil. He blew more majors than anyone in recent memory until he finally learned to play smart instead of goofy. Unfortunately, he's again abandoned that mentality for the bomb and gouge strategy again and I watched his round today. Poor swings, poor management led to a 1 under 71 when it could have been a 66 or even 65 had he simply throttled back and played smart. But not Phil. Already 7 back he already has to hope the course gets to tough that the field comes back to him. Missing those 4-5 footers bit him again today as well. Oh well....that's why you guys love him right? LoL

Sadly, for some that seems to be the case. They cheer when Tiger fails or is hurt. Amazing to me that so many people live vicariously thru pro athletes, whether it be their achievements or failures. Pretty darn pathetic.
-
Giving you clear information isn't my obligation, although in post #2 I gave you all you needed when I cited injuries as the reason for his WD. As for humor, it wasn't funny. But then, I don't see making fun of people being injured as something I would do or condone. As for accusing you, my accusation was spot on.
-
Your statements like "Ibuprofen was enough?" or whatever you said or how you mentioned he wasn't getting any better before you even knew WHY he withdrew speaks to what this thread is all about. Look, I get it. You don't like Tiger and are celebrating his implosion on and off the golf course. Have fun with that. Hopefully, you'll be out playing golf instead of celebrating the fall of Tiger Woods.
