shot my first 80s round last weekend, had been doing pretty well and then on Saturday I backed it up with my first 100 round in quite a while (101). My biggest problem was my approach shots. I either hit them on line, but 15 yards short of the green, or Id hit pin high, but off line on left or right of the green. Lately, It seems like I only average about 2 GIR per round. So I know I need practice on my approach shots. any ideas/tips/drills?

First Id like to say I think you chose an excellent set. I actually play the standard A3 irons and love them. Stick with the practice and lessons, you will get there soon enough. I have dropped about 10 strokes off my game in 2009. and what do you mean, Adams an off brand? Thats a strange comment

valid points. I guess I do a mix of both full shots and short green shots. Im currently reading some reviews on the Rifle Spinners and they seem to get good reviews, may give them a shot

I recently had my driver and irons reshafted. But now Im thinking about doing my wedges. What is a really good wedge shaft? I heard you want an extra stiff shaft for wedges regardless of your swing type because of the resistance in the rough, sand, etc... is this true?

i get this also, in fact one of my gloves actually has a hole in the thumb

so what is the goal? to make the grooves wider or deeper? or maybe both?

How do you play a course with tight fairways?
ScottL replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
im not good enough yet to intentionally fade, etc on will. If Im not hitting it straight that day and I MUST get on the fairway, Ill tee off with my 6 iron or hybrids and sacrifice the distance. -
How many of you guys have had your clubs bent to fit you?
ScottL replied to Harrison's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
interesting.... i have had the shafts in my irons and now my driver replaced, but havent done anything with having bent. I never (still dont) really know the advantage of it, so wasnt really an urgency. -
i was playing last week this guy I was playing with had some Vokey wedges that he claims he altered the grooves. he said its probably technically illegal, but doesnt play in tournaments anyway. But he was actually getting some good spin backwards. i have an old 60 degree sitting in the closet. id like to do this and play with one day just to see. what would need to be done?

Bought a new Driver shaft... Fujikura Rombax
ScottL replied to ScottL's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
ya it does feel light, hopefully not too light, but I got it really cheap on ebay. its brand new and never tipped, gripped, etc for $75. im taking it today to have it installed. -
I have a Titleist D2 driver with stock shaft. Problem is, its a regular flex and I wanted stiff flex. But I knew Id get a new shaft one day.. well I did a little research online and came across this Fujikura Rombax 5x07 shaft. Lighter weight shaft with high launch. Seems perfect for me. I have the Dynamic Gold Dynalite shafts in my irons. Something about the lighter weight I perfer... anyone have one of these shafts? curious about your input

i do notice that I am not quite as flexible as tour players are... lol, what a surprise. on my backswing, my hands are about level with my shoulders, causing my arms to be basically straight out... i look at pictures of tiger, etc with their arms almost pointing to the sky and im like WOW
-
Well I spent about 4 hours on the range last night hitting only irons. I was really working on the shoulder/hip turn I learned from this lesson. WOW, what a huge difference. I think most of all, its mental. Something has finally clicked and the swing is starting to actually make sense. I have realized that before, I really swung the club with my arms. Really the hips/shoulders never even was a thought of mine and the only shoulder/hip rotation I had was just whatever I did because of pulling arms back. Now I am working on making a big shoulder/hip turn and really not thinking about arms. This is really giving me a better ball flight and more consistent ball striking! Im really excited. I cannot wait to go back to range

...that actually went well. Iv taken a few lessons at the local golf store, but I always left there wondering if the guys were telling me the right things. Seemed like the 2 guys always contradicted themselves. And really all they did was video my swing, then compare me to Tiger and say... this is what your doing wrong so I figured Id give this lesson thing one last chance. Id book a lesson with a real instructor and if it doesnt go well, Im on my own from here on out. So i booked a 1 hour lesson at the Jim McClean golf school in Ft. Worth with a master instructor. It felt so good, we were on the right page the entire time. we actually went over our time and was watching a timer counting down til my time was up! Basically my club is doing all the right things. swing plane, face, etc... its my body thats a little off. I dont rotate my hips, but rather slide them back. Gave me some drills and went back outside and was hitting a pretty little draw. I have some work to do on the range to practice this, but for the first time I left actually encouraged and understood what he was telling me.... THERE IS SOME HOPE!!!!

Never sliced before, now almost 100% of the time
ScottL replied to ScottL's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
one thing I thought of, but not sure it really true. But my irons all have stiff shafts and I was fitted for them. They are about 1/2" shorter and also lightweight. The shaft in my driver is regular flex and standard weight/length... I thought maybe this could have something to do with it. My hybrids are stock shafts also, but they are stiff. Just not any lighter/shorter... I hit those right also. 6 iron and down Im overall happy with, not much of a slice at all. but these are the ones with the true temper dynalite shafts I have custom fit. -
Iv been playing golf about 2 years, about 1 year consistently. Over the past year I have done alot to try and improve my game. I have taken lessons, bought new equipment, been fitted, etc.. I now go to the range about 1-2 times a week, and if Im lucky play 1 time a week. So Im starting to get a more consistent swing. Seldomly do the totally horrible mishits, tops, fat duffs, etc. Here is my problem though. Forever, when I missed I would hook the ball. Now all a sudden (literally the past month or two) I have a slice on all my long clubs, specifically my driver. I thought, well maybe since I hit wedges and scoring irons good, Im just swinging too hard on long clubs. but thats not really the case, I specially tried slowing down last night on range, no success. I tried changing my feed, grip, ball more forward, back, etc... everything I could think of just to make a change and nothing worked... went right almost every single time. its not really a HUGE banana that would go OB all the time, but would always go right. any ideas or tips/drills to try and straighten out my shot? Im getting happy with my contact lately, I can even live with my distances... I just wanna hit it straighter (dont we all?)

What irons would you recommend for a 90s shooter?
ScottL replied to ScottL's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i really like the look of the MP-62 (of the ones that arent MP32, MP67, MP68) -

Im really starting to dig the Mizuno for some reason. What other ones are on same line as the MP52? Would the MP60 Cut Muscle be along those lines? -

wow, shindig. Thank you for that post. -
Not sure if this means much. But she did say they have serial numbers. Couldn't you call mizuno to verify
-
hmmm, well it has me intrigued to say the least. $212 shipped? Almost worth it to try it out

here is the link to the chinese site. i just heard back from them, she said they are authentic and not reproductions. So either she is lying, its a hell of a deal or they are some kind of rejects from the factory? They send my a pricelist of everything too. Bags are all $115 http://www.feiyanggolf.com/

i noticed there is a thing down by my signature to post my scorecard stats? I looked everywhere, how do I get my scorecard stats online?
-
Iv been playing golf for about 2 years now. Im playing with Adams A3 irons. Not the OS version. Im dying to get a new set of irons for something new. If it were based on looks alone, Id go with the Titleist Z Blend or Mizuno MP32. But Im afraid to go to a blade since Im still not very good. Im consistently in the 90s, and the last 2 times out I shot 91 and 91. Im starting to get my swing down, but even I know Im still not where I want to be. My goal is to be in 80s by the end of the year. Im so close. But that isnt changing the fact that I want new irons. If you were new to golf again and gonna get any irons on the market, what would you get?

ill post the link when I get to work, its bookmarked on my work computer. they did have bags, balls, shirts, etc
