New iron shafts for Nike VR full cavity
RoyPinhey replied to Gatorocity's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i find it suprising with swing speeds and distances like you say that you are using vr full cavities. im would have thought you would be using a muscle back or blade of some sort -
its interesting to see peoples wedge combinations . .i always used to carry 4 wedges (pw, gw, sw and lw) but now i have gone down to just the 3. Although i carry a 60 degree wedge i would much rather it was a 58 as i have stopped carrying a SW over the last two years and the gap from 52 to 60 is a little large. Sand can be a knightmare in some cases as all of my wedges have very little bounce on them

How often do you change out individual clubs?
RoyPinhey replied to NuclearMike's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i have 2 putters and 2 drivers that i swap alot. .. I have a mickelson'esque blade white hot 8 putter which i love the feel of but am inconsistent with and a black series no 2 (both odyssey) that i am really consistent and solid with . . basically i use the black series for a few rounds, feel like im putting like a god then swap to my white hot which brings me back down to earth with a bump. The problem is i prefer everything about the blade even though it isnt the best performer -
i think its the whole 'macho' 200yrd+ approach shot. I simply dont have the tools/ ability to do it consistently but then again not all tour pros do either . . . ps 9 times out of ten i would lay up but it would be nice to have the shot at least available

As the title says really what do you play with and what do you think of it? what would you change? i always value the opinions of other golfers more than the manafactures so this thread may actually help people out when making choices, i use: Driver: Callaway FTi 10 degree, stiff, neutral 3 Wood (ocassionally): Taylormade R7 TP, Stiff NV green Rescue: Taylormade TP 14 degree, X100 Steel shaft Irons: 3-PW Srixon pro 100 blades, X100 steel shafts Wedges: Callaway vintage 52 and 60 Putter: Odyssey Black series no 2 Ball: ProV1X personally im very happy with my bag other than the wedges. Having had vokeys before these callaways feel so so heavy in my hands, that said they do stop very fast. The only other thing i want to do is bridge the gap between my rescue club and 3 iron as its around a 40yrd difference!

ivealways thought bubba watson looks ungaimly which is suprising as every other lefty i can think of looks so elegant

Bogey Golfer Looking for Advice!
RoyPinhey replied to Swiguy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
typically a fade type shot suggests your shafts are too stiff as your hands are going past the ball before your club does because you dont have the power to pull the club in line fast enough . . Personally i think the cleveland irons are a good solid piece of kit but if the shafts are wrong it could be holding back your development rate -
just because you have equivalent lofts on your hybrids doesnt mean they will travel as far as your fairways . . just remember a fairway metal will have a bigger head and a longer shaft and this will be reflected in the distance achieved by them a 20 degree 5 wood will fly further than a 20 degree rescue/ hybrid (in most cases)

Returning to Golf, fitting questions!
RoyPinhey replied to jeremiahm's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i used eye2's when i started playing about 7 years ago. Im 6ft tall and had black dots like your dad. The thing i would mentioned is the lack of feeling or ability i had to shape shots with these. Sure they have a compact head design but unfortunately they are cast and once youve tried some forged irons you will never look back. I followed up owning these by then having titleist 690mb blades and am now using srixon pro100 blades so they cant have done me too much harm though . . If you serious about getting back into it i would personally be chasing a set of forged muscle backs if you achieve the scores you say you do. Something like a set of mizuno mp30s maybe . . a good all round club that is now available extremely cheaply. -
today i hit a 76 on a par 72 (sss 71) more importantly 13/14 fairways and 15/18 girs

Any Suggestions for My Setup?
RoyPinhey replied to GoldenBearCub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use a tm 14 degree tp rescue with a x100 shaft and it goes a long long way but its not ideal for approaches as it has quite a low trajectory. I also own an old r7 tp 3 wood 15 deg which is a beautiful club to use of the deck and from the fairway although it doesnt often make it into my bag. If you want to try something on the cheap i recomend this club as you can pick them up for next to nothing now the r9 and r11 have been introduced. -
Can someone help my find my type of ball?
RoyPinhey replied to CodyM's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
for a good all round budget ball try the nike mojo . . i use them during winter (which is pretty much all year round in engalnd) and switch to the pro v1x over the summer -
Can someone help my find my type of ball?
RoyPinhey replied to CodyM's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
as said above i also hit the ball very high i mssed around with balls for ages (still do from time to time) and the best i found although not the cheapest is the pro v1x (which is the harder version of the pro v1) which is suited to players who create more spin naturally. it doesnt really lower my ball flight but i have full control of my ball without trading touch around greens and whilst putting. That said i wouldnt recommend a 27 handicap spending that amount on a golf ball -
a classic i used to use as a junior in mens competitions . . .'i could piss further than that'

Need a new 3 wood, suggestions?
RoyPinhey replied to cruzthepug's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
im going to watch this thread with interest as im considering a new 3 wood to give me more options. The gap between my rescue and 3 iron is around 30 yards on average but my driver averages about 275 and thats with a low boring trajectory. The strange thing is with 3 woods is that i have tried so so many over the years and never really found one that ticks all the boxes. ive also found that even if you order one that is to your 'specification' it doesnt mean it will work for you. In order to get one that works you need to get out there and start hitting some . . -
Need a new 3 wood, suggestions?
RoyPinhey replied to cruzthepug's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i brought a vr 3 wood and driver new when they first hit the market and in honesty was dissapointed with both. The clubs just fail to inspire me or allow me to make different shots . . plus they both sounded rubbish aswell! have you considered using a low lofted hybrid to replace your 3 wood all together??? I currently carry a callaway fti driver and a taylormade tp 14 degree rescue fitted with a x100 steel shaft. Thats it for my woods all together. The problem for me is the massive void between my low flighted 240 yard rescue club and my low flighted 210 yard 3 iron . . long par 3's become a real problem with very little options of the tee for me -
oh i know . . . dont get too worried that you've 'scared a newbie'
-
i have now changed it to a generic picture just to please you , ,
-
in honesty it was the only picture on my laptop
-
are we talking drivers here? if we are i can only say how disapointed i was in the taylormade R9. i had a 9.5 degree stiff shafted R9 460 and it gave me a high flight with very little penetration. that said it was very easy to ork the ball if thats what your after but it really did compromise my distance compared to my 909 i was using before.

its crazy to even think about writing off the guys chances of winning another major. I strongly believe he will be world number one and win numerous majors in years to come. throughout his career he has shown as determination and has always been able to turn on the style and shoot low numbers when he needs to regardless of the situation. Its fair to say the new breed of golfers are coming through such as rory, Dustin johnson, luke donald (although hes not young) etc but none of them have that same edge that tiger has shown in the past and still has deep inside him today
