  1. I may be missing something but surely it's better to mark your balls on a green and then allow them to play onto the green and putt out. That way by the time you get to your balls on the green to mark them the single is reaching his approuch position. then you are only waiting on him finishing up the hole. When he goes to the next tee and gets ready to drive you are busy putting with your buddies. by the time you are ready to tee off the single is gone. Otherwise you wait as the single pulls up to the tee, gets his driver un-covered and fishes out ball and Tee. Then you're watching his tee shot putting him under pressure. then you have to wait for him to walk past, play shot 2 and walk away. The chances of him finding some rough under pressure are far more than finding trouble with his 9-iron onto the green. I always get called through from the tee when the group infront is looking for a ball. Last week a 3-ball made me play behind them for the whole 18 holes and it took over 4 hours instead of under 3. I was finished each green before the 2nd guy tee'd off. there were 5+ holes clear infront. I don't understand the mentality that says they should not let me through. I'm playing a fourball at the weekend and I fully expect to let the odd group through. EDIT: I feel like you should be able to ask yourself what it would be like to be the guy behind that loses an hour of his day. Not being able to empathise is a classic sign of a madman.
  2. That is dumb as hell. Quack
  3. Had my first lesson today. A lot of fun to see yourself on the video analysis etc. I was looking for some thoughts on lag. Everything I've seen online always talks about your hands leading your club head into iron shots. What I liked about that was that there was a larger area of the swing that made a solid contact. The first thing this guy said was to never watch online instruction (because that costs instructors money?) so I shut up about watching a million YouTube videos. His swing had my hands over the ball at impact. It all worked very nicely (combined with other corrections) but I felt like there was less room for error this way? Also from other sports I had been leading my arms with my hips. He got me to not do that. Does this seem right. The swing just feels less athletic now. thank you and sorry for any spelling or grammar errors or if I've said something that makes you want to attack me.
  4. Because it's fun to hit balls. I'm never going to be a pro. Golf for me is to unwind and have fun. Golf runs along side a busy career and family life. It also serves as excellent web surfing fodder for breaks. If it's not about having fun in your time off then what are you playing for. Also the flight of the ball diagnoses what you did in the swing. why practice at home without a ball. You could be practicing a hook over and over again and not know.
  5. As a new member of this forum I'd like to say that there are a lot of real jerks on it. Every thread has bitchy sniping and pedantiic one upmanship. It's pretty pathetic. Loads of correcting grammer and spelling and lots of just plain rudeness. How about treating people online with the same basic manners that you would treat someone with in person instead of being a bitchy coward hiding behind a screen. For some context I post on YA! and this is worse.
  6. As a total golf novice who has hit over one 300 yard drives (2), I can maybe shed some light. I know F all about golf tactics. I Youtube'd "how to hit a driver". I hit it with gusto and very little consistency. I score over 100 because my second shots are all out of the rough and my putting sucks. Why is it so hard to believe? average might be hard to believe but to me 300 yards doesn't seem remarkable if I have done it after only a few months. Unless you're telling me that I'm awesome. Unless I'm lying (I'm not) or I'm the world's most amazing golfer in the making (I wish... but I'm not) p.s this has been verified by the course markers and google earth. you can see the yardage markers and tee boxes. ball finishing by the 200 yard marker on a 508 yard hole I'm 5'6" which some giants consider small and into 'bat and ball' sports since I was smaller but I'm an unremarkable chap in my 30's. If I can do it then it seems like it's not a big deal
  7. I am a few months into golf. Started at around 125. play twice a week and scored 100 yesterday. no higher than 110 recently. My question is with regards to my driver loft. I was struggling to get my drive in the air so on advice I switched to a 12.5* loft driver.(and better quality, the driver I had was an old style small head and on it's last legs) It helped get the ball up and really helped my confidence. So then I felt more able to hit on the range with a big shoulder turn and hitting through the ball with the same athletic attitude I take with other sports. So now I'm at the point where I look like someone who plays golf when I swing off the first tee (not a great person who play golf... just a person who plays) . Most of my drives are in the 220-250 range with maybe 25% on the fairway and a couple of 170 yard hooks per round. Twice per round a drive will go past the 270 mark and twice in the last week I've hit a ball just over 300 yards on the fairway ( I know consistency is key, I'm trying) . The thing is the flight of my shot is so high. Compared to the people I play with it seems to be up in the air forever. (I know this is subjective). If I switch to a lower loft with the same swing what could I expect to happen if all else is equal. I have no desire for extra distance as I feel I have plenty for now. my logic is telling me that with less loft I would get less backspin and more side spin so exaggerated hooks and slices?? I don't want to spend even more time in the rough. I think I would rather hit more fairways even if that meant scoring higher for a little while. Thanks guys. Forgive me if I used the wrong terms or procedure Spanners **I searched for a similar topic but still felt the need to start a thread. Apologies if you disagree. Also I want to see a Pro and will as soon as budget and availability allow. Also I know that You only play 14 shots with the driver--- short game etc**
