  2. I recently purchase a 3 wedge set of Hopkin’s Golf black stain wedges. My pitching wedge is an Adams 44 Degree a12os so I purchase a 48-08 full sole, 52-08 shelf grind, and a 56-14 channel grind with the Hopkins OTM Steel wedge flex shafts and Hopkins Lamkin stock grip. They came last week but I’ve had to wait five days to try out due to the wet cold weather we been having here in Virginia. So this Monday 12/15 we get a break in the weather so I off to try them out. A frost delay till 10:30 am before the temperature finally gets to 38 degrees in sun. So I know the ground is going to hard. Short of the 1 st green about 15 yards, I use the 52 dig the toe in and pull the club face open had to yell for my playing partner to get out of way as the ball flies by his chest and over the green. Now I am wondering what I’ve done? Second chip back on to the green about 12 yards away and roll to about 6 feet from hole. Whew, better. I as play the round I ended up in a lot of traps fall in love the 56 channel grind. A few approach shots with good results with the 48 full sole. But mixed results with the 52 shelf grind, until the second nine. Then I begin to get the hang of this club. I end up dropping 8 strokes between the front nine and the back nine. Mostly due to my better than usual wedge play on the back nine. This clubs have a great weight, the clubs feel heavier than my old Vokeys but I like the balance and weight. The black stain chrome looks great and held up well in the sand play. The club head does feel harder than the Vokeys. This was a surprise feel but by the end of the round I liked the feel as the feedback was not harsh and seem to be easier to identify where on the club face I hit the ball. The sound at Impact was louder, however by the end of the round I had quit noticing the sound. The head is slightly more compact than my Vokey 200’s. From my initial results I think I am really going to enjoy this set. Looking forward to improving my wedge play and lowering my scores. Anyone who is in the market for wedges especially custom grinds would be well served to look at these Hopkins Wedges closely. You can try them out for 30 days and return for full credit if you don’t customize the back with your name or other optional designs. Be sure to check out their Facebook page for promo codes. I found one for buy two wedges get the third free.
  3. I have wide feet and my favorite casual shoes are lightweight running shoes (currently Brooks Ghost 11.5 2E) even though I don't jog or run. Walking has less stress on joints and back. In 2005 I purchased a pair of Men's Bite AC 2 golf shoes in a search for a light weight running style mesh golf shoe with spikes. Since the that time these golf shoes have been my favorite golf shoes and the ones I wear in summer when I play 80% of my golf. When the white mesh was dirty I put them in the washing machine then let them air dry in the sun. I guess these Bites have about 200 rounds of golf on them. New spikes at the beginning of the season and last year had to replace the shoe strings. However, now the adhesive between the sole and uppers in coming unglued. I going to miss these shoes. The most comfortable golf shoes I have ever owned. The Bites were mediums with......" More foot support, yet still extremely light and breathable. Biotrac outsole with Bite's exclusive FootFrame. Sectional outsole provides biomechanically sound forefoot flex. Wide toe box encourages foot health and natural alignment. FootFrame piece supports the arch and provides torsional rigidity. Extra multi-directional traction teeth grip in all conditions, strategically positioned for the golf swing. Fast Twist Bitespikes for green-friendly traction and quick replacement. Beveled heel for shock absorption and natural foot motion." according to Bite and after 9 years of use I agree. In 2007 Crocs bought Bite Footwear and this shoe disappeared. The new Crocs golf shoes do not seem to be anything like the Bite's. Can anyone speak to the medium True's or Ecco's ability to have a wide enough toe box to handle wide feet and true to size length (please indicate your running shoe size and width. Would also consider other shoe recommendations as well. Important features; ability of shoe to breath, in hot humid summers (primary reason for mesh uppers, weight, comfort and durability. Your experience with spikeless durability such as rounds of wear before spikeless no longer grip well especially in dew covered grass or on spiked shoes can you feel the spikes through the stock insoles. Are the insoles removeable? Have you ever washed the shoe in the washing machine? Thanks, cybear
  4. A flop wedge is any wedge you use to hit a flop shot. I short very high soft landing shot with almost no roll. It is hard to do for beginners. Any wedge 60 degree or greater is ofter referred to as a flop wedge. Since the purpose for carring one and using one is to hit a flop shot. cybear
  5. Anyone played this ball the Slazenger Black Label. If so let us know what you thing. Dicks' had this ball for $19.95... a three piece urethane ball with a soft core. If it's 3/4 as good as a Pro V1 or TP Black then the price performance ratio would worth a look see. Anyone.......Anyone....... cybear
  6. If you want the green holding power and spin around the green or close to it you need a ball that has a urethane other cover. The Taylor Made TP black fits that bill. Urethane cover low spin off driver high spin off short irons and wedges. It also is a high launch high distance ball. Other less expensive possiblities are the Precept U-Tri-Tour which can often be found a Target or dare I say it Wal-Mart. One I just saw a Dicks sporting goods but have not played yet is the Slazenger Black Label. cybear
  7. I have the chrome wedges but it is wearing off on the ones I use the most. Next time I'm buying the oil can. Frames the ball better and is suppose to have slightly more feel. cybear
  8. I have used www.2putt.com . They have fast service and the prices are great. I have also used www.myclubmaker.com . Wide selection, great advice, along with good service and prices. If you check the www.freegolfinfo.com forum or the www.golfdiscussions.com forum then you will find those owners on those sites talking to customers along with other good sponsors. Most give a discount if you are a member of the forum and membership is free. The discount is usually 10%. Hope this is the information you are trying to find. cybear
  9. I like not having a branded bag to my clubs. I am more likely to change my clubs than my bag brand. I like my OGIO bag. cybear
  10. Forget the set buy indvidual irons 6-PW. Get 1 Driver 1 Fairway Wood - 3 wood or 4 wood no larger than 170-180 cc so you can hit it off the fairway, light rough and off the tee. Large than that makes it hard to hit out of the rough. 3 Hybrids to replace 3, 4, & 5 irons 5 Irons 6, 7, 8, 9, & PW 3 wedges 52, 56, & 60 are popular but get what you want for distance and don't forget to pay attention to bounce. On wedge usually 56 with bounce in 12- 14 range for sand. The other wedges should be lower bounce if you play firm conditions, such as 4-8 bounce. Some player are droping their PW for a 46 or 47 degree fourth wedge. 1 great putter - make sure it fits you and your eye really well you'll make most of your strokes with this club. The most important club to get fitted. Remember even the pro's are replacing their long irons you really have to on your game to hit a 3 - 4 and sometimes even a 5 wood consistently. Forget the macho look long irons and cut strokes buy the hybrids and score lower. And the best urthane cover ball you can afford to loose. Keep it in the fairway cybear
  11. I have read good things about the Eidolon wedges and there V sole design. I know some of the sponsors here build these wedges. When I read about the president Terry Koehler I see that Mr. Koehler had worked at Reid Lockhart and Ray Cook. Reid Lockhart has a good reputation with dual and quad bounce wedges as well. Ray Cook who's reputation is more for putters than wedges also offers a dual bounce wedges. Both Reid Lockhart and Ray Cook list Dripping Springs, TX as their address. So I wondering if Ray Cook wedges are a less expensive verison of the Reid Lockharts and the Eidolon wedges are just the next variation of the Ray Cooks/Reid Lockharts as designed by Terry Koehler. I also notice that Mr. Koehler had worked at Merit Golf. I know they built wedges but I don't know much about them Anyway I was wondering if anyone knew anything about Ray Cook dual bounce wedges or has or is currently playing one and could share some insight. cybear
  12. Ping B60 at 33" isopur. Great putter easy to align, good feel, sort of a cross over between a blade and mallet. Had it since 2000. Still not ready to change.
  13. Replace my 5 iron with a Bang Bang-O-Matic 27 degree hybrid. Could not hit my 5 iron consistent and the Bang has changed that for me. I really like this club. My orginal set was 4-gap wedge. Had already replaced my 4 iron with a Bang 7 wood. Ok I can not hit long irons. but I can hit these clubs. cybear
  14. Started with a Ram FX then moved to an Adams Faldo (long but no heel which I seem to find with regularity) then progressed to a Ping TiSi (Used from 2000 till last month) Now I've been Geeked..... Geek Fail Safe II and it truly has been the best driver for my game so far. Longer and more forgiving than all the rest. cybear
  15. Ban all long putters. You should not be able to tripod the putter unless you tripod your other clubs. Anyone want to buy a belly driver?....... cybear
