Just wondering what goals everyone has set them self for this year. Last year i was playing off of 18 and my target was to get down to 15. By the end of the summer after a couple of second places at my local club im now off of 14. This year my target is to be playing from 12. As a foot note has anyone got any tips on getting handicap down from a mid teen to single figures that i can get working on, as that is my goal to get to single figures.

the allotted 5 minuets. i hate playing slow but in this case i will take a full (timed) 5 minuets. i will not let other peoples enjoyment for the game rush my own personal goals as long as your not doing anything outside of the rules or purposely being a nuisance .

Best shot of the week was a on a par 5 first shot out of bounds off the tee. Second middle of the fairway then put a 3 iron to 4ft away from the pin and made the par putt. Ended up playing two under my handicap and got cut 1.2 shots as the par went up for the day.

Mcheep great advice will take that on board. Thankyou to everyone that has taken the time to reply

Lihu. Well I think the fact I just needed to shoot a 46 and I would win my first comp was partly to do with. I tried to stay calm and not mess up and the opposite happened. I can easily play to 18 when not in a competition it seems when I competitive I just can't do it. Closest I came was this weekend.

Just played a two day comp and after day one sitting two under nett score. I play off 18 and first 9 which I think is the harder 9. I shot a gross 40. So 4 shots under my handicap. The back 9 I shot a 59. Completely blew up. Any tips on how to learn from this? I felt relaxed I excepted my bad shots but I feel I just tried to hard.

Sorry think I made a few mistakes uploading that video. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The obvious thing to me is ball position. This is a wedge I am hitting. Can't seem to embed videos so please follow the link. Many thanks

I've been Playing Golf for:2 years My current handicap index is 18B] My ball flight is a controllable fade to a straight shot The shot I miss is a big fade with driver or low irons: Videos:

Driver is there such as thing as too much loft

It doesn't ballon or doesn't feel like it does I'm quite happy with my ball flight but that is a good idea to upload a video and will do so. when i can drum up the courage to ask a golf buddy to film my swing. Thanks Saevel -
Driver is there such as thing as too much loft
heggis posted a topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Iv currently got a high lofted driver think it 12 degree loft. i hit it fairly constantly rarely missing a fairway. goes about 240-250 carry. i was playing at the weekend and one of my fellow players (who thinks he know everything about golf) said that my loft is to high as my ball gets to the top of the arc and falls straight down. is this true? Also something that is concerning me is that i hit my hybrid 17 degree almost as far as my driver. Is this due to a bad swing with the driver that doesn't happen when the hybrid is in my hand? I know the obvious answer is go to the pro shop and hit a few others go on the machine and look at the figures but was just wondering if anyone had nay thoughts. many thanks for any responses -

Took this advise on the course last week and it made a huge difference. Difficult to stayed disciplined and must admit i didn't remember every time i was playing an approach shot but when i did had no worse than a par ok did get one boggy. And even got two birdies wil be using this method from now on. hopefully start to bring this handicap down -

its not an accuracy problem its a distance one if it was accuracy i would agree with you -

First thanks for the reply. my 9 iron is a 40 degree loft with steel shafts. My ball flight is ok with my irons and normal with my current driver which as i say is a hi loft driver which must be 12 plus and a super felixy shaft. I have been happy with my irons and this is why i have not addressed this until it was raised to me yesterday. w What would you suggest to move forward and figure out if im fitted right? Have a club fitting which is a fair bit cheaper than a lession? -
9 iron is 140 yards my drive is 220-240. Is this normal? i played with some people at my local course yesterday. When they were taking a 6 iron i was using a 9 iron however my drives where only as far as their drives. When i first started i was fitted for my driver which is a high launch (guessing 12 or 13) loft with and is offset. My question is have i outgrown my driver or am i expecting unrealistic distances with my driver? many thanks Luke

And has this improved your game?
-
That was his point I think that none of the pros try to hit it straight coz a miss hit can go either way where as if your trying to hit a shape it should at worse go straight.
-
Just had my first lesson and was told don't try and hit it straight I need a shape. I naturally hit a fade with what I was told was a low ball flight. So my pro told me I would be better hitting a draw because its more powerful and il get a higher ball flight. And it got me thinking what shape all of you play if a shape at all? Also what's the advantage of a higher ball flight?

i regulary play to 30+ points when playing stableford but rarely play to my handicap of 17 when playing medal. which results in my handicap not being cut. Is this normal? reason i ask is played golf with some guys last week that i dont know and won with 34 points i was made to feel like a bit of a bandit as i shot 21 points on the front 9. i have been trying hard to get my handicap down and am playing well at the moment. so am i a bandit of just going through a fortunate spell at the minuet?
-
OK thanks. The person i was with was adamant i didn't get relief but said oh its friendly so have a free drop in that soaking wet bunker. ha
-
i was playing at the weekend and my ball went in a bunker half full of water now my ball was not in the water as i know it would have been a free drop (inside the bunker). But where i would have to stand was 4 inches deep. what is the rule here do i get a free drop inside the bunker still? it was a friendly game so i took a free drop in the bunker but was wondering for competition`s.

at the minuet iv got wilson tour rx with true temper shafts which is a set i bought when starting about two years ago. But still improving with them and cutting shots of my handicap. Also have a vokey 60* wedge. There is no one place where i can cut shots its just consitantcy that i struggle with. but i guess thats just practice and im playing to about a 15 now as aposed to about 20 at the start of the season.
