  1. Tell me if I am crazy. Had my irons regrpped with tour velvets and they just ripped my hands apart. Without realizing it I ordered a set of grips that come standard on Ping Raptures. I liked the feel and didn't realize these are essentially tour velvets with a wrap pattern. I love these grips. It seems to me the even though they are the same the club makers must specify something different in the compound.
  2. Boardy: On misshits I did notice it. Black Golds should have produced lower ball flight but for me the difference was not evident. Maybe a couple of feet lower but not the amount I was expecting.
  3. Just bought a set of Mizuno MX 25 Had three 6 irons made up on with standard S300 DG Shaft, One with RP Project X, One with TT Black Golds. The day I went to the range there was a 15 MPH headwind. Found the Project X and Black Golds to have a more pentrating and just slightly lower ball flight. All three hit within 10 yards witht he DG being the shortest. Went with Black Golds because I felt like they gave me more feel. My local Hotstix licensee freq. matched a set of black golds to obtain my optimum fit. Also had them Pured. I ended up with R shafts but with how they trim them the ended up like a PX 5.5. Intially without hitting them I went to the coarse and played. I was afraid that I had messed up but after a session at the range I know I made the right decision.
  4. There are not buts here. I hit a Cal Great Big Bertha for 15 years and loved it. Could hit it anywhere, anyplace, but couldn't keep up. Did a hotstix fitting on a Adams Bull and had it reshafted. Made me realize not to be stubborn with the new technology.
  5. First thanks for your replies? Here are some answers. This was done at a local Hotstix licensee From my own measurements the clubs are now at standard length so they are not shorter than standard. I am 5'10" so standard length shafts would be correct. As for my old clubs I have set of Ping Zing 2's. I like them however I know technology has passed them up. I had the opportunity to hit a set of Mizunos and liked the feel of the forged irons. Was looking for a step up in club but knew I wasn't ready for blades. Just to clearify the Hotstix program suggested a club build frequency of 4.3 and build CPM of 290. Was looking to end up with a little lower ball flight. If not lower just a more pentrating ball flight. Get tired of nice shots going out and just dying in the wind. If you have more question please ask!!!
  6. Did a Hotstix fitting at my local pro shop. After hitting several of the Hotstix best suggestions I fell in love with Mizuno MX25, TT DG SL Shafts S300 Flex. The guy doing the fitting said that if I wanted to get the MAX out of my new clubs I should consider a shaft upgrade. The Hotstix program suggested TT Black Gold shafts would be a excellant upgrade. My new irons were reshafted w/ Black Gold shafts but instead of the S flex they used R flex shafts. The fitter says that in order to obtain my optimum FREQ of 4.3 they had to use softer shafts and shorten them to achieve this FREQ. By starting with S flex shafts they could not achieve this FREQ. Does this make sense to anyone or did I just get a set of shafts they had in stock? At this point in time I still have options. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. I just did a Hotstix clubfitting from a local pro shop. It costs $40. I tried it the first time for a driver and was a bit cautious. After some debate I took the suggested driver head, and shaft combination and took it for a spin. After testing every off the shelf driver made the combination I ended up with is by far superior to anything I have hit yet. I am not saying that it is the end all, but for somone who can't afford to buy one of each....this has worked great for me. Ended up with an ADAMS Bull w/ Fujikura Vista Tour shaft.
  8. I just went to Todd Sones Impact Golf Putting School. They fit me for a Coutour putter. see Coutourgolf.com. By far the best putter I have ever owned and more importantly if you follow their set-up you will be a better putter. Your scorecard could be mine. Last weekend stuck 5 10 footers dead center. No three puts. Cheapest strokes per $ gain I have found so far.
  9. I had my Pings re-gripped with Golf Prides. What a set of junk. They lasted 2 months.
