  1. man sorry to hear that. i wish i had good news for you, but with a sharp dent in the top like that, there's just not a lot you can do. i had this happen on a Ping Zing 2 driver when i was just learning how to play and i was so disappointed. the problem is, the surface area of a head is so small that there's virtually no way to use some sort of suction to pop the dent out like you would on the hood of a car. the only way you could do it would be to get inside the clubhead somehow and by the time you do that...well, you might as well have spent the money on a new one. depending on how good of a friend it is, i might actually "offer" to sell him the club so you can get a new one. of course, you don't want to go damaging any friendships, so if it was an old club anyway, it might not be worth it. kind of a tough call. but good luck and sorry again about your club.
  2. is it really worth the trouble? only reason i ask is because on a forged iron the face is so soft that after a very short time there will be wear in the middle of the clubface anyway. as long as the grooves are new, i find it hard to believe that the "rainbow" milling will affect performance in anyway. plus, you got a sweet deal, probably because they were manufacturer seconds, however as a rule, most manufacturer seconds are ONLY cosmetic defects that do not affect performance in any way. i try not to presume too much, but many of the clubs i've personally bought on eBay have had some tiny cosmetic blemish or another, even though they were brand new. hope that helps a little, and might give you a different perspective. also, i contacted MacGregor recently about my NVG2 mids, and while they were very nice, they instructed me to return them through an authorized dealer, which i had no desire to do.
  3. i got my DSG RTG+s for like 50 bucks a piece...and yes, they make a 52 degree wedge. they are great wedges, but definitely not lightweight. personally i like a heavier weight on my wedges, because i *believe* it keeps me from skulling the ball on those touchy kind of shots.
  4. I can hit my driver around 220 consistently. My 3 wood goes about 200 to 210 so I use that most of the time. Just to show you how much conditions and geographical location can skew data...I was in West Texas this summer playing in a 20 mile an hour wind. I bombed one out there about 300 yards, roll included. All I did was tee it up really high and take my normal 220 yard swing. The West Texas heat, combined with dry air, hard ground, and the WIND added nearly 80 yards to my tee shot. It's not like that over here in NC though. Even now in the drought, I only get 10 or 15 yards of roll, which on a good driver swing will get me into the 230 range. It's all about the carry distance in my neck of the woods.
  5. you can do even better than that on eBay
  6. gotta tell ya man, and i'm not trying to be a downer, but 8.5 degrees of loft is going to give you a lot less control than say 10 or 10.5 degrees. i wouldn't worry so much about the shaft if you're swinging at 100 mph, then that's okay. but with that amount of loft, you're definitley sacrificing distance. this is just my opinion, but hey you asked for it!
  7. North Carolina! god's country i swear it. man, i'm way too southern.
  8. here, here... i'm joining the petition i posted a relevant comment over on the "What did you shoot today thread?" i played yesterday and on the front nine i was stuck behind some moron hacker, by himself in a cart and it took him 2 1/2 hrs and consequently it took me 2 1/2 hrs as well. i cut in front of him on the back nine and finished in about 1 hr and 15 minutes, walking. i shot 45 on the front and 38 on the back. go figure
  9. me too!!! cept minus the clarinet...yikes! i was always a sax man. i've had the oportunity to gig/tour with several well known regional artists here in the south. now that i'm focusing on finishing up my school, i actually have time for golf again.
  10. i cast my vote for Callaway... god i love their drivers and the irons are pretty long too. i already play Cleveland wedges and the Callaway wedges are designed by the man, so that's easy enough. the hx tour is pretty good too...i don't like it as much as the pro v1, but if i was good enough to play on tour it probably wouldn't matter that much anyway.
  11. 45/38 for an 83, yesterday afternoon. what a weird day. it could've been a lot better, but i had several tee shots on the front nine that didn't hardly make it 100 yards, so i was really stretching to make bogeys...then there were the snap hooks. of course, i'm very pleased that i hung in there and pulled out a great finish to the round. however, one big difference in the back and the front nine was that the entire front nine i was stuck behind a true duffer and had to wait for him on every shot...and the guy was by himself in a cart. took 2 1/2 hrs. the back nine, i got in front of him at the turn and finished in a little over an hour---walking. i found the result quite interesting. i wonder how much better i would play if we had REAL marshals/rangers at the golf courses over here. it makes me wonder, what are those guys getting paid for? they have virtually no authority at the courses i play, nor do they really seem to care. we've got all these old crotchety gamblers who take their time like they're playing for the US Open... just the other night, the head greens keeper was driving the cart around, pulling the pins b/c the sun was setting. i was on hole 16 at the asheville muni. these guys in front of us, knowing full and well we had been waiting on every shot, continued to take 10 to 15 minutes on the last two greens, leaving us standing on the 18th tee box in the dark. it's fortunate they were gone when i got to the parking lot. oh well, just venting...but like i said, after experiencing a nine holes like i did yesterday, where i could play at my own pace, it makes me think that golf is meant to be played much faster than it is over here in America.
  12. i'm sure there's a weirder one, but this is the par that always sticks out in my mind... short 90* dogleg right par 4. hole 8 at BCC in RM, NC. a fairway bunker guards the right edge of the fairway/rough with TALL monkey grass all along the right side and trees to the right of that. in other words: Don't hit it right. of course, i pull out a 3 wood to play it safe and knock my ball straight into love grass. i take an unplayable and then chunk my approach, barely clearing the original fairway bunker. left with about 60 yards, i hole out a lob wedge from the fairway for par.
  13. god i feel like an idiot... can't believe i didn't mention that EVERYONE should have a heavy club such as the momentus or something to that effect. it might not straighten out your swing as good as they say it does, but it sure will build those golf muscles.
  14. no, you're not the only one. when i start hooking badly, it's usually my legs that are to blame. however, mine might be for different reasons. i'm not terribly big at 5'8" and 150 lbs, so I have to "hit" really hard with my lower body. sometimes the timing just gets a little off and i get the hooks. however, tightening up the base usually straightens it out pretty well.
  15. lmfao...a hole in one---OUCH!!!
