Had a lesson this past weekend and the pro immediately figured out what my problems by the time I took two swings. My left hand grip was extremely weak and I was standing a bit far from the ball. As a result my right arm was controlling a lot more of my swing. The corrected grip has helped a bunch with my backswing (shortened it up a lot). Also had me work on my downswing and so that just before impact I feel like Im getting trapped (not sure if thats the best technical way to describe it) so that my hands are in front of the ball at impact - which I think someone pointed out before. Thanks for the help guys, ill repost some videos based on my progress.

Legends Reno-Tahoe Open...Michelle Wie is playing!
cdoug55 replied to underparnv's topic in Tour Talk
I think it would be great if there was a woman who could compete with the men and really keep up with them, but I just don't think her game is at the point where she could really compete. If she really wanted to compete with the men and then she would approach this differently. I can understand the rush to compete with the men (money, publicity, etc), but from a golf point of view I can't understand it. She needs to "learn to win" before she can honestly and truly compete with the men. That doesn't mean win a tournament here or there, come in 4th in this tournament, have this many top 10's or miss the men's cut by 1 stroke. That is not winning, that's almost winning. She needs to know how to go out and literally dominate women's golf before she even attempts to legitimately compete on the PGA Tour. Because lets be honest I think we can all agree that she couldn't beat Tiger or Phil on a normal day. What is the harm in spending time on the LPGA tour, improving her game and learning to close out tournaments before she gives the PGA tour another whirl. If you don't go out there knowing you can make the cut, knowing you have the game to compete and knowing that you are in a position to win then you have no real chance in competing and I don't think she is at that point yet. -
Not really sure I agree with this. Off your left ear would place the ball at least an inch off center, no? I think really ball position comes down to preference and choice of shot.

Is my ball position the only issue with my setup? To be honest I feel like my ball position in this video appears to be too far back as a result of the angle the camera was at. I was always under the impression that in general you want the ball positioned in the middle of your stance and maybe an inche forward for long irons? Im hitting a 6 iron here so I would normally keep that in the middle of my stance and I have found that I can play even my four iron almost to the middle of my stance and get a better penetrating ball flight than if I move it up.

wow didn't realize my swing had that many problems. Well I have a lesson over at Bethpage this weekend so hopefully some of these things get addressed. I def. see the problem on my takeaway which leads to a flat club angle and not being on plane. Luckily I do swing with that tempo on the course. My 20 handicap I think comes from the fact that I get to play maybe 5 - 6 times during the summer with hardly any practice in between - work sucks hahaha.

Could some of you take a look at my videos and help me out a bit. One person analyzed my swing and said my take away was too far inside and my club angle was too flat causing me to come over the top. But I always thought that would produce a pronounced slice, but when I put the ball right it tends to be a push, not a slice. Figured maybe some of you could pick up on some other issues with my swing. http://www.swingacademy.com/swingana...l.aspx?id=1355 http://www.swingacademy.com/swingana...l.aspx?id=1354

Proper Club Fitting in Central NJ
cdoug55 replied to cdoug55's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Forgot to add that I play a Nike Sasquatch (the original model) 9.5degrees with the stock shaft (stiff). I tend to hit my drives high, they don't get that straight line boring type path, could say they balloon a bit. So I am guessing this has to do with my high launch angle, although I don't believe it was as high as the launch monitor said it was. -
Does anyone know of a good place to go get a driver fitting in central NJ? I went to a Golf Galaxy and was very disappointed. First they had a kid do it who was probably 18 at best. I really think their launch monitor was a bit off. I mean I'm not an expert and maybe my swing is off, but the numbers just seemed out of whack. I don't remember them off hand but it was like my launch angle was over 22 degrees, my spin was like 3300-3400, my club head spead was only like a 92. Now I know my club speed is more than that I was in the 105's when I was in highschool (Im 28 now). But regardless of my numbers I didn't like their solutions, he basically told me there was no shaft that could correct this and his only advice was to get a lower spinning ball and proceeded to push the one they were running a special on. Now granted my swing could use some tuning, I tend to got past parallel in my backswing and I often push my drives, I don't think my swing is horrendous. Either way I was just disappointed in the service that was provided and would like to check someone out that knows what they are doing.

I agree with what has been said already. I built a net cage last summer, it was a bit expensive, but i never liked those pop up nets. I used to play a lot back in high school and college and just recently (within the last three years) got back into playing and the reason I built the cage was because when I was playing a lot I would use a net when I couldnt get to the range and I could definitely feel when and where I was mishitting the ball. Im sure with your low handicap you can tell what your ball flight would probably look like just from feeling your shots. So i say grab a net and if you don't like it, not a terrible waste of money.

Tired of People Hating on the 3-iron
cdoug55 replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I carry a 3-iron and have no issues with breaking it out whether in the fairway or in the rough. THen again I also carry a 2-iron and have no issues with that either. -
That alligator headcover is gigantic hahahaha. Pics look good.

Is it possible to get tickets to the tournament, particularly for '08?

I used to play a set of Lynx irons dont even know what model (they are pretty old and I got them from my dad). I switched to Cleveland CG1's last year and yeah I could probably benefit more from a cavity back iron but to be honest I love the way the clevelands feel. Im not the greatest player but I think I hit my irons fairly well and consistent. I actually just picked up a 2 iron for my set and I had a bit of a problem with pushing it at first but after a couple weeks its my go to club off the tee on short par 4's. This weekend it really helped me stay in the fairway. But anyways I like the response i get from blades as well, I know if I've mishit a ball and where on the blade I made contact.

Hey Andy, welcome. I am also a new member here and from NYC. I live in Brooklyn though and work in Manhattan. I refuse to go to Chelsea and pay their insane prices to hit range balls. I am a bit lucky though, I have a car and I am often in NJ during the summer on weekends so I hit the ranges around where I am for that weekend.

I am a corporate attorney...so I don't get out to the course much.

Unfortunately, I am only 28 and did not witness Jack in his prime, so I cannot totally speak from experience. I would say Tiger "will be the greatest", although I would argue that he may already be the greatest just because of what he can do. The man is just uncanny with what he can do with a golf ball and the creativity that he brings to the course. I am sure Jack in his prime could do some amazing things, but I don't think there is anyone who can play the variety of shots that Tiger has in his bag. I also think the mental game that he has is probably 90% of the reason he wins, the man is so committed and mentally focused that it is scary. I also don't agree with some of the comments made in this thread. One is that Jack played against a tougher field. I find that hard to believe considering the talent that most of these guys have today. Also someone said Jack was a better all around athlete...no way. First have you seen how fit Tiger is nowadays and he has shown that he is a pretty coordinated individual.
