Accidentally erased what I had typed and it was a good bit, and I don't feel much like retyping it. Oh well. Here is the latest generation of my swing with the driver. You may recognize me mimicking a video posted on here about the S&T; back swing. It has helped with my back swing a good deal, but I've only been working on it since Wednesday so it's not ingrained yet. I notice I'm still having trouble rolling my back foot instead of lifting it. I plan on uploading videos of my irons tomorrow. Let me know what you think. driver side view driver front view

What is the purpose of having the ball that far forward for mid irons, and how does that relate to the wedges and driver?
-
Thanks James, maybe you could clarify on moving the ball forward in my stance. Would this be a training aid, maybe forcing me to get my weight forward or face hitting it fat everytime? Or is it a permanent thing. I don't know if it's camera position or not, but I keep the ball in the middle of my stance for mid irons, are you suggesting playing it almost off the left heel, as it appears on the right? Also I think straightening that right leg will help me tilt more left on the backswing, as you say I need to do in the first photo. I can see my rear leg has more flex than the player's on the right.

I may have had a breakthrough working on my swing. Yesterday I really focused on straightening my right leg on the back swing, which in turn seemed to help my heel stay down and roll through the shot. I believe that straightening is advocated with the center pivot/S&T; hybrid golf evolution swing, it really made me feel like I was tilting left on the back swing. I need to upload a video of me doing it, but I wanted to make sure this was a proper train of thought before I continue working on it.

Shot an 87 today. Had the best 9 I've ever had on the front, shot a 40. I had 2 birdies to help out an ugly triple and three bogeys. The back 9 was an uninspiring 47, but I still had broken 90 which is good. Staying in the fairway really helped me shave off strokes today. I had several holes where I bombed my driver and 3w, it was a very good day for my woods. Still so many strokes to shave and so much to work on. Have to add that the instructors on here are very knowledgeable and their advice works. After posting my swing and getting advice from mvmac I'm hitting the ball better than ever. If I keep posting scores like this and getting more consistent rounds I may have to drop my instructor and try out evolver if the price is right.

Ah ok, they aren't carried in any retailer I've been in or local shops. I've never seen them online either. As long as they are quality and work for you nocomplaints!
-
Nice, though I've never heard of Maltby until you mentioned them, are they just a really small manufacturer?

True, I thought about that. But an imgur album requires about as little effort to view. I already had it set up and I am having trouble embedding the pictures.

Thanks to a little savings and some Christmas money I have finally been able to complete my bag for the 2012 season, and hopefully these clubs will last me a long time (famous last words yada-yada). I'm proud to say I've completed my bag (bag included) for only $500 bucks. With a little bargain hunting done by perusing the used sections at local stores and chains and bartering with friends, I've come to this: Ping G10 9* Stiff - $60 (Used) Adams F10 15* Stiff - $60 (New) Taylormade 09 Rescue 19* Stiff - $50 (Used) Srixon i-506 3-PW Royal Precision Rifle Flighted 5.0 - $125 (Used) Adams Tom Watson Wedges, 52*, 56*, 60* - $100 (New) Wicked Putter - Free (Gift) Callaway Hyperlite 3.5 - $115 Total - $510 (Yes I know there are 15 clubs, debating on whether to drop the 3 iron or Lob later) Found the irons at my local golf shop, was amazed that they looked like they had been barely used. They had nice shafts, tacky grips, and when I took them out on the course to try them out before I bought them (the benefit of having a gracious shop owner) they performed. I couldn't believe I found a beautiful forged iron for so cheap, I felt like I was stealing. I don't know how many agree, but I'm staunchly against buying boxed sets of irons when you're on a budget. I've seen too many heads from those clubs littering the driving range. My friend has had 3 heads fly off and he barely uses them. I'd much rather look around for great used clubs or 'new' clubs being phased out such as the F10. From the total I've spent about as much as mid-range box set, while getting notably higher quality clubs (the putter is arguable). So, enjoy the pics, and I encourage the fellow 'poor' man with a bargain set of clubs to post and beat me! Link to imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/tpSoy#0 Enjoy!

Used Iron Sets Around The $300 Range
vanpooten replied to WhackAndHack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
OP the price on the x20's I have is fuzzy, it could be $299 but what I do know is that Edwin Watts had a sale on the Callaway X line irons, whether it was the x20 or x18, for under or at $299. Sorry it's all off memory! -
Used Iron Sets Around The $300 Range
vanpooten replied to WhackAndHack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Don't know about used, but most chains have new sets (Dicks, Golf Galaxy, Edwin Watts) of the following for at or under $300: *Callaway x-20 ($199) *Adams A7 ($299) *Adams A4r ($199) *Cleveland TA7 ($299) *Wilson Di9 (Might be $199 or $299) *Wilson Ci7 ($199, online only) *Burner 1.0 (Might be $349 or $399) That's what I can remember off the top of my head, prices for the southeast US. I was very close to getting one of the Adams sets, quality clubs for a great price. Used sets can vary from store to store, even for chains. I've seen different sets at each one I visit. -
Got some FJ Wintersoft gloves, comfy as hell, just gotta see how they handle swinging a club.

True I forgot about that! Do you by chance have any drills for ingraining the feeling of rolling the back foot, I'm having trouble practicing it correctly.

Can't thank you enough Mike for your advice and what you do on the site, I know looking at hundreds of stranger's swings looking for free advice can get old, but know I appreciate the work you do. If ya'll were more business men than good sameritan (spelling?) I'm sure you could easily charge for work like this, because let me tell you it's worth it. Hopefully my activity on the site can be sufficient payment . Anyway you make great points on the video, and rolling the foot makes a lot of sense. A goal I suppose would to have that impressive thread 'Stretch' has going, complete with my own improvement! Will check back soon.

Those two swings when I hit the ball felt good, almost effortless. Just stepped up and hit them in the center, they were both good shots. That range has 80% balls so I have trouble determining if the ball flight is comparable to what a real ball would be. In the beginning I was hitting some really good shots, just focusing on the leg. Felt like I was compressing the ball okay, my miss is a pull hook at the moment, possibly stemming from my club crossing parallel at the top?

I can game MP 53's.......right?
vanpooten replied to Domenic's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
When will this individual get the ban hammer after filling thesandtrap with so many useless threads? -
Here are couple videos with me working on straightening the right leg through impact. Looks like I'm past parallel at the top, takeaway still likes too vertical to me, along with a 'scoopy' looking swing (Those three things really bother me). So many thoughts, need to focus on one at a time! But today's main focus was trying to emulate Fowler's picture through my finish. By working on the above drill I feel like I could eliminate the scoop looking finish (Though I don't believe I am scooping at impact, could be wrong though).
-
Thanks for the help to the both of you. Hopefully I can get a video uploaded of that drill and then the progression of my swing. Getting new irons sure makes one eager to practice!

Part of me thinks this kid is a super good troll, managing to piss off half the members. I had a plan like that when I was 13/14 for soccer to make the national team. All I had to do was make the reserve state team this year, then the state team the next, then the regional reserve team by the year after that, then the regional team, then the USA national reserve team, and finally the full USA national team. So simple and I would be a professional player in 4 years by the time I was 18. Things don't often pan out as simply as one would think.
-
Thanks to the both of you for the help. That last video James posted is the same drill that I've seen floating around here before I think. Working on that drill will help me getting into that position in my follow through? Also it looks like both of you teach S&T;, is that correct?

Any comments or advice?

Some things I notice, not in order of importance: I seem to dip a little on the down swing My right wrist is cupped at the top of the backswing, my understanding is that it should be parallel to the club face, in my case my wrist should be more flat My take away looks a little steep Looks like my hands could be more forward at impact with the irons I'm still worried I'm coming a little from the outside Looks like I could still tuck my chin more, as advised earlier by Mike

Ok so it's been about of month since my first posting. As promised I've been practicing a lot on the advice I received here, and that of my instructor. I'm much more happy with my swing right now, I think I've definitely made strides in the right direction. Obviously there are still flaws, and I notice several as I watch the swing videos, but once again I'd like to hear the advice from the pros on here like mvmac, the_pharoah, and iacas. If other members have suggestions I am open to them also.
