  1. Your right, he is wrong! lol. Anyways, you compress the ball on the clubface, not the ground. And you get backspin from hitting down on the ball, causing the ball to roll up the clubface and get backspin from the grooves. The reason a pitch shot doesnt work in the bunker is because you cannot control distance as well or get the ball up high enough to get control on the bounce and spin.
  2. Do you guys have any hole in ones? How many do you have and were they in a tournament or any cool situations? How far and what club? I have 3. First when i was 10, skulled a 7iron from 100 yds and rolled the whole way in. Second when i was 15, hit a gw from 115. Third, i was 17, hit a PW from 145 and spun it back in the hole, pretty unreal hole in one...and it was in the first round of the junior club champ and i shot 76 to take the first day lead, only to shoot 84 the next day and loose! Let me know about yours!
  3. Im a scratch golfer and am looking for new irons. I currently have the taylormade r7 tp irons and i really like them. I just want to buy some pure blades. I was trying out the new taylormade tp irons and the mizuno blades aswell. I just wanted to know what blades you guys have tried and how you like them. Ive been a taylormade guy my whole life and would defiently stay with them, but would also switch if i find the right iron. Thanks!
  4. and yes, your eyes over the ball
  5. I dont believe there is any correct angle at which your back should be. It compeltely depends on your putter length. Phil used to use a 33 inch putter, im sure his back was at a 100 degrees. The only thing that is agreed upon in the golf swing is a square face at impact and a forward lean on your irons, wedges and a forward lean on your putter promotes top spin and more consistancy in your roll and stroke
  6. That is what i do...I pick a spot even with the cup (ex. 15 inches right of the cup) and make sure i have forward lean on my putter for consistency in my putting stroke. I try to never look at the hole when im over the ball, only the spot im aimimg at.
  7. I'd say Sergio is a great pick, but i would have to pick Rickie Fowler

Does anybody know the percentage of amature golfers that can shoot even par?
  9. I have used my 60 my whole life anywhere inside 100 yards, and i got pretty good at using it so i never tried using a different club. I figured if it aint broke dont fix it. Over the last year however, my chipping has gotten terrible, i think because work is getting in the way. I just cannot get the feel around the green and it is costing me some strokes and some great rounds that could have happend. I just have never practiced with different wedges and have no feel for hitting a bump and run 7 iron from the rough 5 ft off the green. I wished i practiced these shots when i was younger as it would have benefited me during times like this, when my feel is gone and no where to be found. It would be better to play a 7iron bump shot and let the green do the work instead of flying the ball the whole way with a lob wedge. I am deffiently going to work on this over the winter and hopefully 2012 will go a little better.
  10. Here is how i play a greenside bunker shot. 1) always take out THE SAME AMOUNT of sand (i used to draw a semi-circle behind the ball, but whatever works) 2) OPEN your STANCE to the target (right handed, point feet left of target, LH, point feet right of target) 3) OPEN CLUB FACE like a flop shot (this exposes the bounce of your wedge and will help the club get out of the sand and not dig in) 4) ACCELERATE AT IMPACT!!! ( Gary Player's analogy is the best ive heard and says that at impact it should be like your lighting a match, with lots of acceleration at impact. 5) to control distance, all you do is take the same swing and just make it a shorter swing for shorter distance and a longer swing for a longer shot. The key is to always have the same swing and impact for every greenside bunker shot, just make your swing longer and shorter for different distances. Go to the practice bunker, and do these 5 steps, (step 5 takes lots of practice with getting the proper feel) and you will improve your bunker play,
  11. I love this idea. Golf is about tricking your mind into thinking your Tiger Woods and not to be upset when you dont perform like him. Learning to love the pressure is a great way to have fun over your club championship winning putt instead of trembling and choking your putter out. Before every round, i love to go to putting green and sink a bunch of differnet types of putts within 10 feet. I like to build up a memory bank of all these types of putts, and when it comes down to it on the course, i can just tell myself, i just sank this putt on the practice green, so whats the difference, just grip the putter extra soft, visualize the putt and execute. Golf is about having confidence in your game and being able to visualize and be confident of the shot that is gonna come out. The second you start thinking about the water on the right, or how you just lipped out the same putt on the previous hole, the negative thoughts will become reality and you've just been owned by pressure. In the end, Golf is just a game, and there will always be another one. So just go out, have fun and you will see improvment in your game.
  12. A lot of the time when trying to fix something, you may feel as if you are doing it, but in reality its not enough. You need to try and exaggerate coming over the top. Try to imagine as if you were swinging in a hallway. To swing in a hallway, you need to come back over the top and have a steeper downswing. It is almost impossible to hit the ball far when you have as flat as swing as that. For a long ball, you must build up swing speed, and at 6 ft. 7, you should have lots of it, but don't because of your flat swing. So if i could say one thing, it would be to exaggerate what you think your doing in practice. "Im asking for a foot, and begging for an inch" - Hank Haney
  13. I have had regular shafts in my irons since i got them 4 years ago. Now my swing is much quicker, 115 mph with my driver and i hit my 9 iron 150 yards. I can generally control my irons pretty well, but i snap hook them off the tee, so on par 3's i dont even use a tee anymore, even with a 3 or 4 iron. So i know i need new shafts, but i don't know wether i should get XStiff or stiff. In the end it comes down to control, and if i can control a stiff shaft then it should be ok. But i just wanted to know what you guys think i should get. Thanks a lot
