I had practice session yesterday and found somehing that helps me on setup. I do only slow take away as practice swing and when I come back at the ball my weight and overall posture favors left side. However, I noticed new problem that's probably due same root cause. When getting power from legs I naturally want to straighen my left foot (think back foot on ollie on skateboard). It just kicks straight really fast and direction can be even little bit backwards. So I basically start (somewhat proper) weight shift and then my left legs stops the movement by kicking against it. Any ideas on how to practise proper weight shift so that my natural "power move" doesn't stop the movement but would add something to it? Edit: Also something that could be done without club at home/gym/office? Again, hard to explain as non native english speaker but hope you got my point.

Thanks for the answers, I will really try concentrate on this today again and Mike or James will get new vid on Sunday. I'll certainly also swich to regular on snowboad, sadly didn't ask this question 4 months ago, I would have gotten 8 days of practice already It's really hard to descripe. It's like I'm waist up righty and waist down left. I would guess that when normal righty looks left at setup they feel like they're lookin forward towards the target but for me it feels like I'm lookin target that's behind me

I have hard time making proper weight distribution while setuping for swing. I understand what needs to be done but my body doesn't. I would assume my problem is that, even tho I play golf as righty, I'm goofy on skate/snowboard (skateboard around 7yrs / snowboard 25 yrs and still doing 5-10 times a winter) meaning right foot is in front. This leads me naturally to take balance on right foot and maneuver with left. It seem my lower body would like me to play lefty but I can't even take club on my hands that way, let alone swing. However, if I try to make natural weigth distribution without thinking I always end up having 55-60% weight on back foot Anyone out there with similar problems? Any ideas on how to get S&T; setup and weight distribution to feel more natural?

I'll probably be the one turning off the lights. I've only had 2 analysis until now but already got tremendous help from evolvr so hoping you'll keep version 1.0 running until version 2.0 is available. Your plans sounds great but it'll take time till my part of Finland will get certified instructor and until that moment I'm relying on online help.

Patting down grass behind ball when in the rough ...
Tiikeli replied to inthehole's topic in Rules of Golf
In tee box that's perfectly allowed. On fairway I personally wouldn't mind either as long backswing starts immediately after pressing ie. this press would be part of the backswing. In my head this is kind of similar to forward press that you see lots of guys doing to initiate swing. I think you can't do forward press without pressing also downwards, at least a bit -
Structure swing training plan ideas needed
Tiikeli replied to Tiikeli's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks guys I actually signed up with evolvr http://evolvr.thegolfevolution.com/ and got my first analysis back on Thursday. It was very good and professional and I now know what I should work on first (not to letting my weight/head drift backwards on backswing). Sadly, I hurt my back on Wed and I'm now eager to start working on this but I can't Probably gonna take this week and lots of drugs to recover fully -
Patting down grass behind ball when in the rough ...
Tiikeli replied to inthehole's topic in Rules of Golf
It's a breach of rule 13-2 which forbids improving ball position or lie by moving, bending or breaking anything growing or fixed (including immovable obstructions and objects defining out of bounds) -
I was wondering about golfers preparation / warm-up before they even get to course and range. Couldn't find any real info by googling so though you might have some info / insight on this. When I was younger playing hockey and soccer we had light jogs 30 min - 1 h before game to wake up our bodies and then static stretching (so long time ago that no one in Finland had heard about dynamic stretching) I was wondering are there amy similar types of routines in golf? I read an article about some Finnish pro (should remember the name since there aren't too many) that when he was junior he had been stopped by police in Sweden at 4 am when coach had told guys to go running 3 hours before tee time and tee time was at 7 am I'm not looking anything this radical but so pointers on how to wake up your body before round.

My targets for this year - Commit to training, both golf and fitness - Get fit and lose around 30 pounds (15kg) - More discipline on competition rounds -> Stoke average to 75 3 first are goals and last one is will (hopefully) the result

Thanks for the feedback. I just tried to imitate my swing on office bathroom mirror and reason might be that I have my chin too close to my chest and it gets bit stuck on left shoulded during backswing. I will surely monitor this. Any other pointers? I personally noticed the width of my stance and ball position. Most instructions/tips I've read says ball should be in the middle of stance for short irons and stance should be about shoulder width. From that perspective my stance is bit too wide and ball position bit too forward. However, I feel really balanced with that stance and ball position encourages me to hit ball forward but still downwards. Same goes with weight shift. If I move ball back to middle of the stance and make stance bit narrower I start hitting the ground too much and also have harder time to shifting my weight. What you guys think? This was first time I actually saw my swing on video and was surprised and quite happy the way it looked. I recorded around 10 swings and they all looked pretty much alike (had hard time choosing best one to show you guys )

Sadly only front view with 9 iron. Tried to get video from down the line today but my (new) gym workout took too much toll and I couldn't hit the ball at all. Any comments and ideas on improvement areas are more than welcome

How many Golfers worldwide play hcp 16 or better?
Tiikeli replied to Littleoven's topic in Golf Talk
At my home club 16,1 % of members (total around 2000) have HCP 16 or better. In my opinion that would be close the percentage in the world overall too since in Finland virtually all players have hcp and therefore 17,3 % of members have hcp over 54 (starting hcp in Finland) meaning they either never have played better round than 131 shots (men's tee) or they don't keep record. 31,8 % of members in total have hcp higher than 36 -
Hello I'd like to get your input on creating proper training plan & schedule for upcoming winter. Goal is to improve all aspects of my swing. My background: 34 years old male, played golf for 3 years, Official EGA hcp 10,2 where as estimated USGA hcp index would be aroung 15 Setting is following: Indoor range with 15 yds of ball flight 15 weeks 2 times a week totaling 30 practice sessions (around 1,5 hous) (after this there will be 2-4 weeks buffer before season starts) No possibility to use teaching pro, sadly No possibility to practice short game except putting at home General fitness/mobility/flexibility improvement plan already in place and actually also succcesfully started So finally to my questions: - How would you split swing in different improvement areas (for example: BS / Transition / DS / Impact) - How would you organize you training schedule (for example: 2 weeks BS then 2 weeks transition etc. or cycle where evere session has next development area as focus) - How would you structure 1,5 h training session (for example: 10 min warm up, 30 min drills, 15 min full shots etc.) - Any other ideas and suggestions are more than welcome I'd like to keep this discussion on this level and not go in to different swing methods or systems. I have an idea on what and how I should work but the problem is to make the training structured and purposeful. Without proper written plan I will slip back into bad habit of just hitting the ball without any real goal Thanks Tiikeli
