  1. Anyone read his books? I have read Missing Links (a novel) and Who's Your Caddy. He is a great writer, and really builds lot of characters for his subjects (in Missing Links). His style is apparent in both books though. I loved them.
  2. It's been 75 years since the last amateur, John Goodman, won the US Open. Only 5 men have ever done it. In 1913 Francis Ouimet won it. In '15 Jerome Travers did it. In '16 Chick Evans won. Then Bobby Jones won it in '23, '26, '29, & '30. Then, John Goodman won in 1933. Since then there have been no amateurs win the US Open. Bobby Jones may have been an "amateur" but I think any of us would agree that his game was far from amateur. In today's day, he could make Tiger Woods money. And, if you are that good nowadays, you turn pro directly out of college. So, let's add up the variable: the best players in the world turning pro earlier, and earlier in their careers, the prize money that is at stake in today's tournaments is amazing, with the advanced equipment of 21st century golf making players better and better, I could go on. But, the question is will we ever see another amateur win the US Open?
  3. Greetings all. Even though I got my 3 posts, I'm still a newbie and I need club advice. I have been using the TM R580 for a couple of years with varying degrees of success (mostly negative). At one point I was crushing it with little movement. Then, things started slowly (a fade here and there) and things snowballed on me. Now I'm back to hitting the dreaded banana ball. Once it got back into my head, I was a gonner. I have been able to dial it back in, but I still have too much of a fade/slice. No banana balls, but too much right movement. So, I have decided to take the plunge on a new driver. I was 100% dead set on the R7 Draw until I saw that TM has now put out the Burner Draw. I have heard a lot of good things about the Burner, so I figure the Draw version would be good too. But, since it's so new, I can't find a review on it anywhere. I assume that it has the same benefits of the Burner over the R7 but it's just a draw version. Has anyone hit the Burner Draw yet? I'd really like to hear from someone who has hit them both so I can get some sort of comparison together. Thanks for any help!
  4. http://www.golfwhittlesprings.com/ It used to be a pretty crappy course, but is now under management by Billy Casper's group and is improving daily.
  5. I have to add my name to the St. Andrews list. I had an old friend of mine who attended St. Andrews University (keep in mind we are from East TN). While he was there he played almost daily (I would have flunked out of school). He had a flat there and I decided to visit him for a couple of weeks and got my play in. I didn't even have to wait. I asked when I could get on and the guy sent me straight out with 2 Scots who were a blast to play with!
  6. I'm a Finance Officer in East Tennessee. Basically, an FO is a mix between an accountant and bank financier.
