Picked up an assortment of used cg15 and one callaway x forged MD 56. Had one pure shot with it on a flat green and boy did it come back well. I'm excited to see this x forged into some back stop greens and maybe look to get it in a 60 as well. Need to do some more testing with cg15s still.... I mostly use urethane 3pc balls, hex chrome plus prov1x are my usual.

New here/Wanting to post about someone turning pro someday
res0n0xg replied to GHIN0011458's topic in Golf Talk
I don't believe you. Post some links to your big tournament wins. Also post your swing let's see it. -
I do plan on playing with the bounce and hopefully a few shafts, but grind? Ideally, my question was, all things being equal, what is the spinniest wedge stock for stock?

9 iron is 140 yards my drive is 220-240 so.....
res0n0xg replied to heggis's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think your number are off? You only hit your 9i 135-140 but hit your driver 285? I guess you could have a 100% perfect driver swing, perfect AoA, etc. to do that, but that just doesn't make sense. I carry my 9i 150-155 depending on flight and driver is about the same at 285. Maybe In regards to you taking a 9i vs buddies taking a 6i, you hit your 9i slightly above average maybe, but someone hitting a 6i 140 is definitely below average, clubs can make a small part of that difference as well. In the end, it sounds like you have a power leak with your driver and a "pure" shot should be 250 for you total distance, so you're likely hitting too high/low and have too much spin in one direction or the other. -
well from the statement "you can attack all pins and stop the ball within 2ft from where it landed" is just completely impossible. I'm looking for more spin to get the ball closer to the pin for par saves usually, rather than taking a 10ft+ usually for a 2 putt bogey. I am a decent spin player already, but I would much rather have as much as possible and then be able to take it off when needed.

Hi, Looking to upgrade from a stock TM 56* RAC and a 60* ATV, I get OK spin I guess, but I'm really looking for more. I see the new 588 RTX looks good, then I see mention of the DG spinner shafts, would going to those wedges and adding the shafts be pretty much the most spin you could get out of a conforming club?

definitely seems like a decent starter swing, hard to tell everything without the other angle to analyze. I can see you're definitely taking a bit too much backswing.... You're coming way past parallel and it's definitely going to hurt your control and ability to make changes to your swing. you should start trying to take half that much backswing, but still swing down aggressively and as you usually would, and post that video. You'd be surprised to see that it looks like a full swing to the rest of us.

You want to feel your right hand turn over down through the ball on that same path, assuming you are right handed.

a 20+ hcp player isn't hitting 3 decent 7i in a row either though, such is the game of golf. Granted he has a better chance to not go crazy, lose a ball, etc. but that's not a viable solution really.

Update. shot 84 yesterday, course 71.7/131.... Had 3 drives over 300, one around 306, 320, 310. It was a good day with the driver yesterday, only one shot OB, first hole, only lost ball, all other tee shots (4i, 5w) were all fairway or first cut shots. Wedge play was pretty bad, only a few GIR, one GUR, but mostly just scrambled OK to save pars or bogey, two doubles, no triples, one birdie are the outliers. This is a fairly typical round for me. Mid 80's is a pretty good score from a harder course as well, the greens at this course are incredibly firm.

20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
res0n0xg replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I've always been a decently long hitter and while I definitely don't average 300 yards during a round. On a good round I'll have 3-4 drives that'll go 300+, usually one or two of those goes through the fairway into the rough or is a strong pull. 3-4 drives that don't have any help go between 265-280, then maybe a few 240-250 yard shots that were either blocks or hit into a headwind etc. I don't keep a handicap, but I tend to shoot around 90, good day in the mid to low 80's, bad day in the high 90's. I struggle mostly with my iron play and putting, I keep changing my swing, and my irons are all over the place lately. I'd say it's definitely possible, I was paired with a guy who could hit almost as far as me the other day, I thought he was good at first, then on the back 9 he literally fell apart, every tee shot OB, constant duffs, etc. I shot a 92 that day and thought he would of killed me, but he had a 60 on the back 9. -
If you really are 13 and only weigh 80 pounds but you're already shooting around 90? I'd say that's awesome man. Once you hit puberty, assuming you don't get unlucky, you'll easily add 15-20mph to your swing speed, likely more as the years go on, you start working out, etc. You can't compare yourself to another kid who's already 5'10" 175, that always happens in sports growing up. All that matters is what happens after you grow up.

Whats your Avg Drive swing speed?
res0n0xg replied to Coleoneps's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
You are underestimating your SS, mid 80's will not get you 230 carry with no tail wind, and no other big contributing factors. You're probably around 95MPH SS if you do actually carry 230 and roll 250ish. -
good feel and ball flight but no divot?
res0n0xg replied to moonducks's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Regardless of the few on tour who don't take big divots... Stricker does take a divot with almost all his irons by the way, any recent tour I've watched clearly shows it, other than the longest irons or hybrid clubs. If you're not taking a divot, it's likely you're picking and hitting the ball low on the club face, and while you can still get good trajectory sometimes from this as clubs are very forgiving today. If you truly strike down into the ball the ball mark should be near the center of the face and you'll compress the ball much better, leading to better spin and longer distance. -
no offense but almost assuredly your average drive isn't 290 yards, but if you're even close, hybrids are almost a complete waste. I average 265 or so off the tee but my driver is currently my weakest club. I find almost no need for even my 3 hybrid now as the ball gets up too high with that club so it's no more effective into the wind on a 220 yard shot than say a 4i or choked down 3wood, I still carry it but often wonder why and don't know what i'd replace it with as almost all cases around 200-220 i just seem to pull out the 4i now. i'd recommend driver 3wood 4-pw 50 or 52 (my rocketbladez use a 50) then 55/56 and a 60. then just have some rotating clubs depending on how you're feeling, the course, what you're working on, etc. maybe a flop shot club like a 64 degree, 5 wood, etc.

Ordered them through an Ebay deal for 530.99 shipped no tax, so couldn't pass it up as they are a reputable shop. Anyway, I'ver never been fitted, is it worth it to get irons cut aftermarket and lie adjusted if necessary? I'm weary as this is by far my most expensive iron set ever and don't want a shop to hack them up if they won't be perfect.

Can the backswing be too short?
res0n0xg replied to res0n0xg's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
any critiques at all then? good to hear as I had a buddy saying it seemed to short... -
Hi guys, over the last 6 months to a year I decided to try to change my swing to become more consistent and in the process have become less consistent (mostly with irons). My driver has held pretty strong overall, but I've noticed I seem to have a too abbreviated backswing now.... My swing from the other thread below : http://thesandtrap.com/t/64473/my-swing-res0n0xg Thoughts on this?
-
I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years My current handicap index or average score is: 90's My typical ball flight is: average flight, strong draw The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: snap hook/overdraw and block Videos: Two separate driver swings above. My driver is typically my better club, usual shot is mid/high draw starting on the right side of the fairway ending on the left. I'm a decent distance player, on a solid drive with low wind/average conditions my "good" drive will go 265-280, slight block/push about 240-260, and a bomb around 300. My usual miss is an over draw / pull or snap hook if it's really bad. Every once in awhile I'll have a block right (not a slice or fade) but that's pretty rare. However, my backswing appears to abbreviated with my driver now as I have changed my swing immensely over the last year (not all for the better as my scores haven't dropped in a year now) and my shortened backswing is really apparent when I view these videos... Thoughts on the swing overall?

Thanks for the advice, just ordered one from Amazon, so literally just swing into this thing? How will this adjust my impact position?

Hi guys, still hoping for some more feedback on the new revised swing posted above. While playing lately, I have to say I like the new swing much better, but feel like my new, natural tendency is to either push/slice at this point, not sure what's going on there? My driver seems to be the worst now. Before, I'd have a nice amount of draw giving me that extra distance, but now I seem to have a slight fade to a slice.

anything on the new vids? I have to say i'm still very inconsistent with my irons and lately having trouble with pushing/fading my shots when i do not want to.
-
Ok, been working on a few things, here are two revised, one with a slo-mo, it was a quick edit, so fast forward to around 1:30ish
-
I think I know what you mean, it seems i have the club shaft pointed up too high into my stomach almost. I will try some of those slight modifications and post a new video sometime soon. thanks guys

Just started taking lessons, been around high 90's, low 100's on the course after getting back into it. Just took a lesson, instructor said I wasn't turning my shoulders nearly enough on my backswing or follow through. This is my revised swing so far...
