  2. Thank you stretch for that post!! Also i plan to hopefully visit David Orr this winter. I attended a college that was not far from where he works and regret never getting over to see him. Luckily my brother now is going to the college i graduated from and am planning to set something up with David when i head down there during my off season. For starters I'm not disagreeing with you on anything. Again when it comes to putting i don't have facts and I'm only trying to learn and understand so what I'm about to ask is just to help myself understand and learn about how to strike a ball when putting. if you strike a putt below the equator with a rising AoA and 1-2* of loft wouldn't that cause the ball to launch into the air slightly?
  3. I have studied much more about the full swing than i have about putting. That being said I want to explore more about putting and learn as much as I can about it. Lately I have been experimenting with the putting stroke. Ive been reading about all different styles of teaching. I haven't figured out what the best approach is when teaching/ applying basic fundamentals of the stroke. The latest book I read was the 3 degrees of putting by Michael Breed. I have always thought that the ideal way to hit a put and get it rolling as fast as possible was by hitting the ball above the equator. Breed agrees with that but suggests to do it with negative loft. I would like to see what you all think about putting as well as see if anyone can share any testing they may have performed or have evidence of what the ideal way to strike a putt and get it rolling as quickly as possible instead of skidding and then rolling.
  4. Your swing is looking much better after a month of work!! Good job!! I would say that the reason for the hooks is because the lower body is moving laterally and the upper body is staying back. The upper body need to move a little lateral with the lower body as the arms drop in the downswing. At the moment the hooks are coming from the upper center stating back and the right arm being too disconnected in the downswing which causes the hands to become active in an effort to speed up the club. Make sure in the downswing as the upper center and lower center move laterally the right elbow comes down and into the rib cage so that the arms are connected and moving with the body. I will try to get on a computer soon to give you a visual.
  5. Thank you both! And thank you for your help Mike! im really likeing the changes I see. I actually feel more preassure in my right leg and foot when i feel the "stretch" at P4
  6. OK all so here are a couple vids after i have been working on feeling more stretch in my right side at P4 (top of back swing) my ball striking had been great! I am starting to get the ball to start a little more consistently in 1 direction. Obtaining this "stretch" has also appeared to steepen my hips as well!! All in all the changes have only made things better and more consistent. I think i still need to work on tucking my pelvis a little more under through the ball and also the neck tilt at address as Mike had suggested in his last post. But thank you for the help thus far!
  7. Thank you very much for your compliment! I have actually been working on steepening the hips so i will post a new video in another day or so and we will see if the club position changes as you mentioned. I have also been working on the short game a ton especially around the greens (chipping, pitching) I attended an AimPoint class towards the end of the golf season this past year and then unfortunately broke my ankle not to long after it...long story short i never got to really practice it and have started this season by doing so..so hopefully this season will result in lower scores!!
  8. Mike I will be taking new video of me trying to accomplish the "stretch" and post it in the next day or so! Thanks for your help.
  9. Thank you for the compliment! Can you clarify? its kind of confusing. You say achieve flat wrist through impact but then less wrist before impact. As for flex. I just got fit at a place called Izett near my home. They are really good and have a slightly different way of testing than most. as oppose to fitting off of swing speed they load test the shaft and how it moves in the swing. I got fit for shafts that freak out at 6.0. For the last 3-4 years i fel as though i was over fit. I played project x 7.0 for about a year and then got dynamic goldx-100. i was also fit into a graphite design Di8x driver shaft.. all of which i think attributed to my decline of playing good golf. I couldnt feel the head of the club and lost all feel.
  10. Anytime. Im pretty new myself. i joined about a year ago but just recently started to use the forum. There is tons of good information here and just as many good people. A great place to learn! Good luck to you as well.
  11. Looks great! Job well done on both parts!
  12. Got it thank you!
  13. So to clarify when your saying im "flexed over". I need to feel more stretch in the right side durig the back swing and then the same through the ball?
  14. I would get fit at the closest golf facility and see what their suggestions are. Its hard for us to say since we don't have much to go off of. Fitting golf clubs has many variables. It would be more valuable for you to go to a professional and get their opinion after they use a launch monitor or allow you to hit a few different types of shafts.
  15. Many variables go into it. Depends on the type of change and how often you can get out to work on it. After a year and a half i finally feel pretty good with my swing. I worked almost everyday on it. I also "revamped" my swing and rebuilt it from the ground up.
  16. any chance you have a down the line view?
  17. Also i forgot to add i don't feel that i start the ball to the right all that often. The only time it typically starts right is when i hit the big push cut. The ball usually starts on the target line or left of it in most cases
  18. Thanks Mike! No the hooks start left and they are not hit off the toe. I actually use a dry erase marker on the face of my clubs when practicing to see where the contact is exactly and majority of my shots are around the center.
  19. It is hard for me to explain in detail the things i did because i have totally changed the movement of my golf swing/how my body worked. However i use to move off the ball quite a bit. First thing i did was build a base. I started from the ground up. The leg work was a huge part and it took me a while to get comfortable with feeling more movement than i use to have. It also took me a while to learn to move thought the ball and get to my left side (I'm right handed as a reminder). The instructor i worked hands on with a Mario Bevilaqua. I was lucky enough to go to college with Mario and he opened my eyes to the new S&T; type swing i now use. The best way to describe the swing i have tried to build for myself is a centered swing. I was taught growing up like many of us to get my body behind the ball and then shift back to it which led to military golf for a good portion of my life. It was hard for me to play good golf consistently with the old swing. Since starting to work with Mario a year or 2 ago i have built up a good base of knowledge which i now teach today to my students. I myself do not have all the pieces for both myself playing and for the teaching aspects but i continue to learn everyday as much as i can. i teach many amateur golfers but do not know enough about how everything works together to take an amateur to more of a pro level. I Have a couple videos i will post so you can see my swing somewhat prior to the big changes made. The swings i will post are the oldest swings i could find of myself and i believe where taken just before i really committed to changing it. After the breaking down the swing and building it back up it has been almost 2 years and this season is the first time in a long time that i have confidence when playing golf. I was hitting bad block slices in the middle of it all and as i look back on it i feel like i was Like tiger in the fact that i got much worse before i got better. As i said i worked from the ground up starting with the leg work-less flex in the trail leg more in the lead leg at the top of the back swing. this lead to steeper hips and steeper shoulders. Worked with staying more connected with the arms and also with elbow and wrist flexion. At some point during the process we worked on allowing my body to control the face instead of the misconception of making myself release the club with my hands.( this is something you will be able to see post impact. My face closer rate is through the roof) We also worked on my finish. I had to tuck the pelvis under the top half of my body. you will see in the video of my old swing that my upper half is much more in front of my body. Many of the drills i used to help make all these changes are on Mario's Youtube page Golfrealitybymario The changes i made happened over about a year and we worked together almost everyday for that time. I was lucky enough to live with Mario and pick his Brain about the golf swing as well as have him to guide me and help transform my swing. I posted my original swing here because i wanted to generate conversation so that i can learn as much as i can about myself as well as the golf swing in general.I am anxious to see what some of the more expereinced people on here have to say about my swing posted earlier. I know Mike and Erik both are great instructors and have an unbeleiable amount of knowledge about the swing and i hop to one day know as much as they do. Hope this Helps and please feel free to contact me if you have anymore questions
  20. As seen in the video above Not only does opening the face expose bounce it also helps promote spin. But i think this video will help describe the reasons of why it would be beneficial to use more loft in a green side bunker.
  21. interesting thread i have always wondered this myself but thank you all for the information!
  22. Along with the changes mike suggested I have a few more. First i would suggest along with foot flares, to help your pivot i would work a little on leg work. At P4 i would have less flex in the trail leg and more flex in the lead leg. Below you can see the difference between you and Grant. This will help your hips work more rotationally instead of sliding. When flexing the lead leg i would also suggest to make sure it flexes more towards the toes of the lead foot. Again i have used Grant as an example Working on the leg work will give you a good base to pivot on. Your upper body will then be able to rotate using the core instead of having to lift with the arms as Mike had mentioned you currently do. It will allow you to get your weight more to your lead side because there will be less movement away from the ball with the lower body. The last thing i would say is even though your arms get "lifty" as a result of the hip slide. I would also keep an eye on your elbow position at P2. the rate at which your elbow flexes is too fast in the back swing which also contributes to your right elbow getting behind your body at P4( top of back swing) and the swing being too long. The below picture gives you a visual of how the flex in your trail arm has more flex then grants at P2 In the below picture you can see that relative to your body your right elbow is deeper than Grants is. What i mean is that Grants elbow is more in front of his body. Grants elbow and forearms create roughly a 90 degree angle where as your elbow and forearm create a greater angle. (the bicep and forearm almost touch) Hope this helps!!
  23. I would agree with Mike. No big reason to change the grip it would only create an inconsistency and may cause the hands to be too active/inactive if you have 2 or more grips. Having the same grip will help insure the hands work in a consistent way in swing.
  24. Thank you! il have to try and take video on a more clear day to see what the position of the face is but will definitely take it into consideration!
  25. Yes that's me as well. That was taken early summer last year. That was the last golf lesson i had taken that my teacher was there with me. i feel as though the hips in the golf swing you posted work better than in the one one i posted. They seem to outrace everything in the swing i posted. Thank you for your compliment. Thank you All for your kind words and compliments. Mchepp_thank you for the nitpick i didn't see that myself but that's a good spot. And thank you for your compliment. I know that i have a good golf swing but for some reason i tend to spray the ball. For the first half of the season i fought a really bad Push Slice and then later on in the year up until now i miss a little to both sides of the course but primarily left. It boggles my mind that i do it. i want to miss to one side and have a consistent flight as we all strive to do. I am so new to the style swing that i unfortunately dint know how to diagnose my own swings at this level. i The people i teach are primarily higher handicappers and many positions are obvious to point out and change. Again thank you all for your compliment!!!
