Driving Range Practice Journal
Mitcheman21 replied to justingolfso's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Yeah I do, not just for the range but comps, I tend to pick a target and record whenever I miss it right/left fat or thin. I tend to record things I have worked on, things I have found, feelings I had when I hit a good one, just general notes. So that when things go downhill I can look back and see how I figured it out last time. I wouldn't recommend a spreadsheet something like a notepad, be a little more creative! I might just help your golf! -
I find turning my feet out 5* right foot and 30* left foot helps

Ok well that's excatly my problems, ill tell you what helps me with these things, standing too close to the ball and sliding my hips laterally on the backswing, which causes them too sway back on the downswing causing a push or not sliding and hitting it fat, when I turn in the backswing (as you do we'll in this video) it's a nice little draw. Just any hip slide completely f's me up. But that's just me

Looks good. I wouldn't start fiddling with things like lateral hip slide (unless your hitting it fat all the time) see a pro if you must, but your weight has moved all the way to the left side by the end so I don't see any problems. Where is your miss?

I had this problem and thought it was my hips were spinning out but in reality unless your a serious athlete this won't happen :-D what I was doing is sliding them in the backswing and not rotating enough in the downswing, just another thought for you

Yeah the trouble is I'm really good at half swinging, it goes sraight as an arrow. Sometimes on the course I just take way too much club and half swing if I'm having real problems. But thanks

This has been driving me insane for ages now, I am continually blocking shots to the right and sometimes push fading, I can't get a video up sadly. My divots are pointing right of target and even when they point straight I lose the ball to the right, obviously my face is open at imapct (square to path for pushes) I've looked at a video that my friend took and it looks ok, I take it back straight the club is square/a little closed at the top, but when i come into the ball there is no hand action then straight after imapct the hands flip over but too late. I know it's guess work without a video Thanks in advance

Yes some were fatted and went left, but some were struck really nicely and still went left, I think your right about my tempo, it only really happens under pressure when I maybe get a bit fast. Cheers

Hey guys, I've recently been playing ok, hitting a nice little draw. However today I hit a few pull hooks, I thought I was coming ott but my divots were facing right. What causes the pull hook and how can i fix it?

Losing distance with my irons...
Mitcheman21 replied to onthehunt526's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
You may be coming over the top? When I lose distance with my irons, which costs me loads of shot and the respect of my playing partners by dumping it in the front bunker after claiming I really could get my 7 back there. I am usually coming ott -
Good work today- in-to-out downswing
Mitcheman21 replied to Titleist72's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The way i understand it is that you need to come from the inside but have you shoulders square at impact (to the target) I can still hit a draw that starts straight with a divot pointing right because my shoulders are square. To do this I have my shoulders titled (right shoulder below left) at impact. The way I achieve this is to start the backswing with my hips (bumping them forward slightly) that slots my right shoulder down and I can really fire from there. That's the swing thought I have been using recently and shot a 73 yesterday...not bad for a 15 hcp! Starting the downing with the hips is essential to me. That's just how I make it work would be glad for one of the pros to correct me as I don't know anything for certain :-) -
Thanks, the right knee thought really helped me

I've been struggling recently with my weight shift. I think I know what the problem is but wanted to check with you guys before i really started working on it. Before my hips were spinning out and it caused me to cut across it losing loads of distance and hitting a horrible high fade that went nowhere. Now I've been working on sliding or bumping the hips at the start of the downswing and this has helped a lot. But I was sliding both my knees and my front knee at impact was bent. I think I need to shift the weight to the outside of my heels driving my back knee towards my straight front knee. This the right thing to do? Cheers guys

How do I NOT lose my marbles after a bad shot/hole?
Mitcheman21 replied to CBVegas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I used to go insane after any half bad shot, still do occasionally, but in a comp you have to think of the overall goal (winning) and try and put into perspective were you are and how to achieve that. Think of the positives ie you haven't dropped a shot, level though one is no blow out. If your not feeling too great maybe make some better decisions, I'm guessing you can get it out there...lay up on the short par four, hit wedge and take your chances. Of course if your feeling great go for it!! Try to rebuild the round get a few pars going then look to attack some pins that suit your eye. -
Hey guys Basically I can move all my other clubs with reasonable success either way, but when it comes to the driver (the one club I really want to draw) I just can't, it produces either blocks out to the right or just goes straight. I have the same shaft on my 3 wood and can draw that easily. I have the same grip, grip pressure everything with the driver and it just won't turn over, I use a pretty strong grip anyway. Sorry I cant provide a swing video Thanks guys

Take a lesson, this will make sure you grip posture setup is correct, then take the club back straight and SWING FROM THE INSIDE a good drill is put a tee a bit in front of the ball on the target line and make sure you miss it.:-D;-)
