  1. I've been stuck in a rut at 13.3-13.6 index for going on 5 years now. My goal is simple... bring it down!! In order for me to do this I have to take practicing more seriously. I'm on the right path now, as I just took a lesson to work out bad habits with my swing. I will also have to play more than 1-2 times per month. This will not be a problem since I am motivated to get better - and nothing beats being on the course. Last, I want to win some of my club tournaments! I've only taken 1 in my five years of being with the club. That is unacceplable for me. It's going to be a good year, I can feel it!!
  2. Aside from tees, divot tools, etc, the most important thing in my bag is sunscreen. Yeah I know, California sucks
  3. I've been using Tommy Armour 845's since I was 15 years old (I am now almost 30). Great clubs but it was time for something new. Ping I10's are in the mail as I write this (white dot, +1/2" stiff steel shafts). This new iron purchase has really motivated me to step my game up.
  4. Thanks for the responses! I purchased the new Ping Tour-W wedges. I ordered a 60/10 with an "H" grind for the flop shots and a 54/14 for my sand/fairway approach shots. I actually intend to use the 54 quite a bit for full-swing approach shots. It's tough to say what type of fairways I hit from... some are hard, some are soft. It changes from course to course here in the Sacramento Valley. My swing is definately steep so I suppose that makes a difference when choosing the right bounce. The 54 will also be used a lot around the green for chip shots. Rarely will I open the face with this club (except for sand shots). That's what the 60 will be for. I guess what I want is the most versatility. I'll find out if the 54/14 works with my type of swing soon enough. Though I have played golf for many years now, this is the first time I ever considered such things as bounce - so this is an experiment for me. If I find 14* is too much, I'll just send it back to Ping for a grinding... or I can get another one with less bounce. Then I can choose according to the course I'll be playing. Thanks for reading my ramblings
  5. I'm sorry if the subject of bounce has been beaten to death. I was just wondering what is considered a 'normal' amount of bounce versus high or low bounce, specifically for a sand wedge. I just ordered a 54/14 and am now second guessing if this was the right thing for me. This was the fitter's recommendation, as he noted I have a 'strong' grip and tend to swing down on the ball. I also told him I take pretty big divots with a full swing of the sand wedge. What kind of limitations should I expect with a bounce of 14*? I like to use the 54 on my approch shots a lot as well as chips around the green. Most of my greenside bunker shots will be with the 60, unless the sand is real fluffy. Any advice would be appreaciated!
  6. hawkeye, I basically went with the fitter's recommendation. I told him I dig with a full swing sand wedge and this club will be used primarily full swing. I hope I didn't make the wrong move so I'll find out soon enough. What about the 14* bounce makes you change to 10*?
  7. Another Tour-W fan. After trying them out a couple times I finally ordered a 54/14 and a 60/10 today. The 60 will get the "H" grind so that I can hit flop shots easier and still have the higher bounce. I get my new i10's next week and wedges the week after.

    Why?

Probably a combination of camera angle and draw shots. I know what you mean though. The pros know how to work that ball.
  9. I used to hit irons only off the tee.... until I put my hands on a Cobra 454 Comp.
  10. I may get bashed among you SC fans here, but I am wondering how the Ping Redwood series compare to the Scotty's? I tried a Redwood Anser the other day and it's a sweet looking putter and seems to be very well constructed.
  11. Yeah, I have read good reviews on the Tour-W's as well. There are way more reviews for the Vokey's, but damn, the pings are nice looking. I will be getting a 56 and 60 of one or the other. For the past couple of years, my # of rounds have dwindled to 1-2 per month - mostly just club tournaments. Now I am already thinking about practicing more often. I never practice! These new clubs are just what I need to get into the single digits... I hope
  12. I just ordered myself a set of i10's last week. I tried all kinds of clubs but nothing felt as good as these irons. They should arrive in a few days.... I'm getting anxious. Tomorrow I will be fitted for some new wedges. Tour-W's or maybe Vokeys - we'll see.
