  1. I have used a friends club http://thesandtrap.com/products/callaway-diablo-edge-3-hybrid-regular-right-handed-graphite/owners/ and after a bucket of what I would consider perfect shots by my own standard I have to get one. Problem is every site seems to be selling Lefty ones. I only see the Tour version in the config I want. What is the diff do you think between a tour version vs a standard version of this club?
  2. I wouldn't hit 20 onto a green or hit off a fairway, just off to the side. I only count the first ball I hit if I'm trying to mark a score on a hole if I'm on my own or maybe play 3 ball, worst ball. ie 3 off the tee and play my next shot from the position of the worst of the 3 I just hit
  3. Wanted to get this one off my chest. What is it about golfers that some people will do a full practice round on their own with just 1 ball? Out yesterday evening and saw two guys on their own hacking away ( I'm no tiger myself ) with just one ball. Hit it 100 yrds, find it, hit again.... and so on. Any sport I have ever played like soccer for instance, you don't practice your free taking by playing 90mins and hoping there'll be one or 2 frees over the course of the 90 mins that you can practice with? My practice session involve 20 balls off the tee, maybe counting just the first ball if I'm trying to simulate some pressure, into a bit of second cut, another 20 shots, into bunker, another batch and so on. Who of ye is amongst the single ballers?
  4. lol, yea, I might go for it. The only saving grace was I was on a $hit card at that point. 17th hole. Would have killed me to have a Hex Bogey ( If that's the word ) when I was the right side of 3 or 4 over
  5. Can anyone top this. 110 yrd par 3. On in one, 40 ft from pin, downhill putt. my putt went past the hole and trickled off the green into a bunker. Fluffed my first shot out. Next attempt clunked it and into water on opposite side. Water drop. Chipped on and 3 putted. I near cried :(
  6. Few threads on this but didn't see any with a poll. Just interested in seeing what the general golfing public do.
  7. Easier to get the wrists hinged and loaded with the wrists in a weak position. But with this new grip now in it's 4th week with me it still feels damm strange.
  8. Right handed. The new grip has seriously improved my ball flight. Almost no tendency to slice or fade, almost always a draw as it's so much easier to get the club closed. It's just my thumbs keep wanting to do somethinig but the instructor tells me to try and keep them out of the equation.
  9. Just started with a new instructor and he has tore into my grip. Really weakened it ( both hands over to the right ) so much so that now my thumbs feel as if they have no purpose. That said the results are slowly starting to improve as I try to stick with the new grip till it feels more natural. Any one find they're thumbs take a more passive role and barely touch the club. Same goes for my right index finger, it's barely on the club. All my grip strenght is through the two middle fingers of both hands. I use the overlapping grip
  10. I had a prolaunch red Stiff in my Cobra 9.5 Deg driver up to last. Had a fairways hit % around 60 - 70 % and averaging around 240 yrds so was very content with that. Then on the 1st tee last weekend I took my driver out and when I looked down at the head the face was looking up at me. Seems something fell on my golf bag and the driver head took the brunt of it. So off I go to get a new shaft and for the hell of it I said I would try the prolaunch blue stiff. Hits the ball higher for more carry I think I read but wanted to try something different anyways. So put the shaft on and out of the first 10 balls I hit at the range 9 of them went out right, out over the fence. Slice slice slice. I thought I was going to get some more carry but now have a driver that I daren't use on a course till I sort the shaft. Is it just a case of going back to the tried and tested ProLaunch red or is here any other reason for a shaft to cause a slice, and it must be the shaft cause I the same driver head, setup, grip as before was not doing this :(
  11. Well that was my original guess was that once you declare a lost ball, hit your replacement ball then it does not matter if you find the original ball or not. It's the kind of problem I would like to have a lot more of but I can't see it happen again for the rest of my golfing career :) Interesting that the majority of answers here contradicted the offical rule saevel25 listed. I wonder how many times have people declared a lost ball, hit their replacement ball and then find their original ball 50 yrds further up the fairway and say "great, found my ball, that 2nd ball I hit doesn't count anymore" I know you can hit a provisional even before you start to look for your first ball ( which is the normal way to do it ) but from once you declare the original ball lost then it is lost. Update: Just saw the last post there, good to know that you wouldn't have to stroke off the shot of a career because of some silly lost ball rule :)
  12. Had the pleasure last sunday of dropping a 140 yarder into the hole. Unfortunately I didn't get to see it on it's way. Anyways what I was wondered was the following. I played my approach from behind a hill and none of my playing buddies had a view of the green. I caught her well but figured it would not have carried the rough that was on my line. Got down to the green and rooted around for a few mins before I was just about to make the trek back to rehit when one of the other guys spotted my ball in the hole. Happy days. However, what would have happened if I had declared a lost ball and then rehit and didn't find my original ball till one or 2 shots later? is my ball in the hole then out of play and not counted?
  13. Missed my regular 4 ball on Saturday so slotted in with 3 other guys. One of them looked like he wouldn't make it past the first tee never mind play a full round. How wrong was I and even more so when he hit his first ball. I started to notice his pre shot routine and asked him about it. It didn't involve a practice swing of sorts. Just a full backswing and slowly lowered the club till it was parallel to the ground and then he checked his hips were clear wrists were still cocked, leading edge of club was almost vertical, club approaching ball slightly on the inside etc. He would do this twice and 3rd time was go and always produced a crisp strike with a lovely draw. He said his thinking was if you couldn't get your body and club into the right position in slow motion then what chance do you have at full speed. So I tried it on the range afterwards and it worked like a dream. Can't wait to hit the fairways next wknd. Any one ever do this as a drill or part of your pre shot routine. ?
  14. Yea, that old trick of putting the marker infront of the ball and then replacing the ball in front of the marker I see popped up in this thread. I had my fill of this guy that used to do that and felt like pulling him on it. I didn't but the next time I played with him I availed of some covert mobile phone footage. I pulled him on it and of course he denied it. It was not somethiing he was doing out of habit because he only ever did it for the 2 footers. Obviously not much to be gained on a 20ft putt. I just played on and let him sign for his card before I played the footage back to the handicap secretary. I just can't stomach that kind of petty cheating. The reason as far as I can see that you always mark behind the ball is because you would normally be standing behind it and it is easier to see the marker when you're replacing the ball.
  15. No, my clubs were the latest flavour of the Wilsons when I got them. Bought them new in AmericanGolf at the start of 2009
  16. DBuck ..... I'm 5' 11" Avg build, Avg weight. I've been accused of having an ungodly slow back swing with a slight pause at the transition but in my mind it's the down swing that I usually hit the ball with so it's not the slow backswing that's the problem. My irons are the Wilson Fat Shaft, Don't know if they're regular or stiff or anything. I just picked them off the shelf 2 yrs ago. They're the only clubs I have ever bought, everything else are hand me downs. My controlled driver swing speed was measured at just over 100 and the sim was telling me I'm getting 260yrd ( Big lie there to get me to buy the club no doubt as I'm rarely past the 230 mark on the course! ). Anything faster feels out of control. Well, I'll see if I can get the camera out and take a clip. Can you post videos on this site or is it through a youtube link? Thanks for replies ...
  17. I just stumbled on this thread on how far you hit a 6 iron http://thesandtrap.com/forum/thread/30024/how-far-do-you-fly-a-six-iron-shaft#post_378185 Some long hitters there no doubt. My 6I is about 140. When I started golfing 4 yrs ago I was told to get a stable smooth, repeatable swing going and concentrate on ball striking and accuracy. Well, I've done that and now expect to and usually do break 80 any time I play. Problem is I feel I have hit a glass ceiling and I'm hitting 6 irons where higher handicappers than me are taking out 9 Irons. In a large percentage of the times I'm closer the pin than my higher handicap golfing buddies even though I'm hitting a longer iron but I can't help but feel I'm 3 or 4 shots higher than what I could be playing if I could just get some more distance. The old saying "accuracy and ball striking first and distance will follow" is wearing a bit thin when I see these other guys hitting the ball so should I go back to the drawing board and see where I'm losing distance or just see if I can a few more yards order some off eBay?
  18. I'm in the same boat here. I put a lot of faith in reviews I read on http://www.reviewcentre.com/ and they are all singing the praises of these GoKart machines. Anyone here got any personal experience of them to make the decision easier?
  19. I stumbled on this site and as it is a lady golfer giving the tip I tend to pay more attention as they make far better natural golfers than us males. I was trying to see what if any is the cause/fix for the old "Hole in the glove" problem. In short the general thinking seems to be if you wear through your glove then your grip is not correct. Pic1 in the link below is right on the money as regards describing my grip. Problem is the "correct" way in pic2 looks like I couldn't swing the club with it never mind hit a ball. http://teetimesgolfmagazine.com/beverlysbigsecrets.asp?id=10104 What is your take on this?
  20. what I mean is to have the face square at impact and keep it looking skywards right through to the finish. Seems to create more bounce or something and pops the ball up nicely almost all the time. Finish just feels a bit awkward
  21. I've been experimenting with keeping an open face through impact to the finish for all but full pitch shots and seem to be getting better results and more consistent contact as opposed to closing the face over as per a normal full shot. Anyone vary the clubface like this for different shots any if so what shots/ball lies do you think best suit each approach?
  22. I know from the rule book that if you accidently knock the ball off the tee that no penalty is incurred as the ball is not yet in play and you can re tee but i havn't been able to find any definitive answer on these scenarios. 1. You don't use a tee when teeing off and you accidently knock the ball forward? Any shot incurred? 2. You hit your first OOB and are teeing up for your 3rd shot off the tee and then you accidently knock the ball off, is there a penalty in that case?
  23. Just got myslef a set of these irons. It was the wide soles that I liked most and they are a vast improvement on my old set. Does anyone know what would be a good gap wedge to go with these. ie one with the same wide sole , fat shaft etc?
  24. This SW appears to have more bounce on it but as I have a relatively flat swing I would have thought the additional bounce would cause me to thin it with this club. As I don't give a rat's *** what kind of club I have in my bag or how much I paid for them I would love to get an other one or 2 of these clubs just to give them a go. one other thing that impressed me about it was the amount of spin it imparted on the ball and even short 40 yrders were pulling up nicely on the green. Far more so than I ever remember with my more expensive Mizunos.
  25. 2 yrs ago I bought myself some mizuno irons 2nd hand MP60s and 3 new wedges. These were a vast improvement on my previous clubs and so I thought that was me sorted for at least 5 years. My game has been coming along nicely with a few sub 80 rounds this year. Last day out I found a Donnay 420 Firefly SW thrown in a bunker at the 3 rd green so I put it in my bag to bring back to the club house. Out of interest I took one shot with it and was astounded at how easy it was to hit. I couldn't leave the damm thing down and looked forward to each and every tricky 50 - 80 yrd shot and nailed em all with this club. I was going to do a runner with it but left it in the club house for it's right ful owner who did not return for it so I now am the proud owner of this great club. Trouble is I want more ... more .. more of them. But I can't even find a set on sale on ebay. I figure they are cheap clubs but I gotta try the PW of them and hopefully the whole set. Any one know any reputable sites or better still have you played with this or a similar club? Thanks ... J
