  1. Thanks again so much for your comments, it makes a lot of sense and you managed to do it without all the usual jargon! I am going back to the shop on Saturday, this time I will be asking for the full fitting and see where that puts me. The over the top comments make absolute sense, this is likely what I have been doing as I was very conscious to swing a bit harder given the shafts I had... I'll keep you posted on how I get on. Cheers pal
  2. Wu Tiger, thanks so much. Your post couldn't have been more informative for me, i just wish the guy in the golf shop took the same consideration! I tried them again at the range yesterday, thinking I am just going to keep them and get used to them, I must admit I was hitting a little straighter but the majority was starting straight then slicing sharply... I also discovered I was hitting more towards the toe...could this be as a result of the shaft also? I was conscious of trying to swing harder at the ball, maybe this was making me swing more out to in...? Not really sure? So really I need to take them back to the shop and get a less stiff shaft....I am a 9 handicapper and figured I should be using stiffer shafts...maybe not?
  3. Guys, I made the move a purhcased some new irons, a set of Ping i20's black dot. I tried them in the shop with the launch monitor and I hit them well, a tad right but on the whole very solid. The main difference between them and my previous set of Titleist 775 CB's is the shaft, the Pings are PX 5.5, the 775's are NS Pro 100. Ok, onto the crooks of the thread... I used them today on the course and well...all I can say is right right right, everything went right! Short and right, not a good showing and they just didn't feel good, I usually hit 3 out of 4 shots what I believe are 'solid' with my old irons however, maybe 1 out of 4 today and that is being generous! The clubs felt heavy, really heavy. The guy in the shop said the PX 5.5 where between reg and stiff, however they seem much stiffer than my 775's. I think i have made a mistake in my selection...I am a 9 handicapper and these are only my 3rd set of clubs. In your experience, can the shafts have this much impact on your game? Are the PX 5.5 shafts that much stiffer than NS Pro 100, are they that much different? Any advice you guys can offer is much appreciated. Cheers
  4. That would promote a left to right ball flight would it not?
  5. Hi All, I have made a small adjustment to how I line up with my clubs at the ball which has resulted in much more consistent ball striking. However, I am concerned I have not really dealt with the problem head on? I now align the middle of the ball towards to heel of my club. When I align the the ball with the middle of my club I find I am striking the clubs way off centre towards the toe? Now, I have seen some pro's line up the heel of the club to the ball before swinging and conversly I have seen some pro's line up the toe of the club to the ball. But can anyone suggest why this may be happening with my swing and advise me whether the method I am currenly deploying is a good long term solution? Many, many thanks in advance
  6. Can anyone help me... I am having issues with my swing, I am hitting at least 50% of my irons off centre and more towards the toe of the clubface, concequently I am losing distance as well as hurting my hands! It also tends to happen more often when hitting the ball off a tee???? It happens with my woods but not as often than with my irons. Has anyone some suggestions as to why this may be happening and how I can correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  7. I have the Superquad and although I cannot fault its forgiveness and ability to keep the ball in play, I am hitting my 3 wood as far as it (approx 240 yards). I am consider trading it in for a new driver with a bit more yardage behind it. What do you mean when you say get the right shaft? I have a regular shaft that came with the club off the shelf, how would I know if I need to change it?
  8. Hi guys, Has anyone tried both these clubs? Does anyone have a general assessment on distance and forgiveness? Much thanks in advance
  9. Harrington sacked his 3 iron off for a hybrid, he feels he has got more trajectory options with it
  10. Your another one of these self-glorified 'the big I am types' aren't you.... I am sure there are songs written about people like you..... I know Carly Simon sung one
  11. Whats the problem withe less loft exactly? There are always other clubs available to fill the void
  12. Oh my, I don't think I have ever heard a more self-glorifying thread in all my life. I bet you have got a personalised car registration to haven't you? "I'm in the top 5% of golfers in the world" Who the hell speaks like that man???
  13. A club pro suggested the superquad after assessing my swing on a launch monitor, but I have improved my swing since then, I have been able to cut out the large slice I used to suffer from, though not totally. I am hitting my 3 wood between 220-235 off the tee, the superquad a tad more on an excellent strike, but its the overall feel and swing that i like from the Burner
  14. Yeah I suppose that makes sense. I need to go hit some drivers and see the difference but you think it is about 10 yards in difference between a 9.5 and 10.5 degree loft. I don't get much run summer or winter, bigger carry than most of my mates I play with but hardly any run which is very fustraiting. But I think that is because of the left to right shape of my natural shot. How is winter golf over in the old country? Its sludge, swap and mud here! Well it is in Liverpool where I am from
  15. I have had mine for about 8 months now (it is 10.5 degree, reg shaft). At first i thought it was great but that was largely due to the fact I had been hitting a 3 iron of the tee for the previous 8 years due to a big big slice. But I recently recieved a TM Burner 3 wood (15 degree, reg shaft) for Xmas and am finding I am hitting this roughly as far as the Superquad off the tee....... which as got me thinking I should trade it in for the Burner driver. Has anyone else had distance issues with the Superquad? Also, as a side issue, what effect would going from a 10.5 degree driver to a 9.5 degree one have on swing/distance? Thanks in advance for any contributions,
  16. Hi there, Where can you pick up a 775s gap wedge? I cannot seem to get one in England? Also, what is the loft of it, 50 or 52? Thanks
  17. Good thread. I am having similar issues in deciding what to buy? I have just invested in a new set of irons, Titleist 775's (3-PW). So I need to buy another wedge or 2 but am unsure what lofts to go for? My last set were 12 yr old Nicklaus Bear irons consisting of 3-SW, and that is all I used. The problem I have is that I have no idea what of their lofts and for the life in me cannot find their specification anywhere on the internet? The 775 PW is 45deg, so I am thinking I will need a 50 and a 54 or 56. Does that seem about right? I have always thought a 60deg loft was a bit excessive, it seems most of you guys do also.
  18. I have used them for 3 days now, at this stage although it is obviously early on, is that the short irons are fantastic, 7-Pw. The 6 iron, ummm not bad, but the 3-5 iron I cannot seem to hit well at all at the minute. Cannot get them up high at all, and am often miss-hitting them? I am putting it down to a change at this stage but will keep my eye on it. How much use I will get from the 3,4 iron I don't know as I was using my hybrid for that sort of distance with my old set. But, as I said, the 7-PW are excellent, good distance and forgiving.
  19. to late now mate, I bought some 775's today, I love them. Or at least for now! Mind you I have been playing with 12 yr old Nicklaus irons!
  20. Now I have my irons, I need a wedge...... any more suggestions??
  21. Just to let you know guys, I have just bought a set of 775's! Ex demo set, paid £200 (RRP-£595) for them (aboout $400), hardly a scratch on them. I went a golf discount shop to hit a few clubs and i loved the 775's. I hit Callaway X 20's, Wilson Ci7's, TM MB's, Mizuno MP57's. I could not hit the MP 57's at all, felt all wrong as did the Taylor Mades's. The X 20's were very easy to hit but I kept tugging them left. I was split between the Wilsons and the 775's, but opted for the latter in the end as they fely great in my hands and gave me more feedback than the Wilsons. But I must say, they are by far the easiest set of irons I have ever hit, basically swing back the club and bring it thru roughly in the direction of the ball and off it flew!!!!! Excellent distance with them but I couldn't tell if I had miss-hit the ball until it landed and I gaged the distance. I have just been the range and hit my old clubs followed by the 775's to judge the difference in length and I am hitting about one club difference, i.e. I am getting 150(ish) yards from an 8 iron with the 775's, with my old clubs I would be hitting a 7 iron to get that distance. SOME I AM WELL HAPPY, THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS
  22. Can anyone help me? I am trying to find ouu where I can find the specification for these clubs? I have no idea about their lie, loft, offset etc and I need to find out ASAP as I am buying new irons this weekend. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated THANKS IN ADVANCE
  23. Would they be more forgiving than the Nicklaus Bear irons I have been using do you think? I am 27 and had them since I was 15, I am not even sure if they are cavity backs or blades? They don't look like either??
  24. Hi guys, Just looking for some views ASAP pls. I am a 9 handicapper who has be using Nicklaus Bear Irons for 12 years and am looking for a new set. I have read good stuff about both the X18's and 775.Cb's, and also some Ping irons. But I am unsure which way to go, I am not buying new and so can't realy go and try out each of them. I am looking for something that will be forgiving and give me a bit more distance than my existing clubs. The problem is that I don't know what forgiving clubs and non-forgiving clubs feel like so I don't know how to gage it!! Which clubs would you recognise guys? Thanks
  25. What does anyone make of the Titleist 775 CB's??
