  1. I'd also try to find an instructor with your build as well. At 6'1" 215 lbs, I'm not sure I want a guy that's 5' 4" and 250 lbs giving me a lesson. I'd go with the 3 lessons for $120.00 myself. That last 15 minutes of the hour is just going to be pounding golf balls working on what he showed you. You can do that after each of those 3 lessons.
  2. Frankly, I'm surprised the instructor isn't working on your posture BEFORE working on your swing plane. Your back appears a bit rounded to me. If you get that more in line traditionally, you're apt to have less to worry about with your plane/wrist hinge.
  3. Very good story LovinItAll ; sorry for the loss of your friend. Today I went again to try out my new Sun Mountain Speed Cart V1 instead of carrying my clubs. I love walking while playing and what a difference that cart made. I still sweated my keister off but my shoulders and body felt fine on the back nine. At 44 years old, walking and carrying the clubs in this Georgia heat/humidity isn't something I can manage anymore. On my misses lately, I've been feeling myself grabbing the club at the bottom with my left hand. Thin shots, fat shots, etc but not all the time. I'd just received an email from a site about cupping and decided to key in on a seemingly elementary part of the swing but something I'd let creep back at times. Today's swing key was keeping a firm right wrist down and through impact. I hit the driver/woods pretty well and my irons were very accurate and crisp. My misses weren't bad and I was able to scramble to post a 79 despite only hitting 8 fairways and 7 greens. I ended up with 30 putts with no 3 putts. One other thought for the round..................BE DELIBERATE. Not slow but deliberate. I checked alignment religiously on nearly all shots (no one's perfect) and even though I hit some bad shots, I felt focused for much of the round.
  4. Funny stuff TTH83!
  5. Ken Venturi I read a Golf Digest interview with him years ago and he just impressed the heck out of me. Taken under the wing of Byron Nelson, he played with the greats and held his own. Guy was in contention to win the 1956 Masters as an amateur and later confided that Bobby Jones told him if he'd won the 1956 Masters and remained an amateur, he would have asked me to be president of Augusta National. Imagine Bobby Jones telling you that............ Although he only won one major (1964 U.S. Open during horrendous conditions), his knowledge of golf is impressive. I loved him as a commentator as well. There was also the 1958 Masters where he was playing with Arnold Palmer when Palmer wanted relief from an imbedded lie on hole #12. The rules official declined and Palmer made double bogey. Palmer decided to play a provisional because he disagreed with the ruling and makes par with the second ball. Venturi called him on it before he played it stating to play a second ball you must announce your intention before making another stroke. Three holes later the rules officials change the score to indicate Palmer was given a 3 on the 12th. Of course, Venturi is crushed by that incorrect ruling and Palmer goes onto to win his first major and Venturi finished 2 shots back (the same two shots given to Palmer). He didn't raise a stink about it (at least not that I've read) and let sleeping dogs lie. A couple of his most memorable quotes.......'Take your par and go quietly' or when watching Curtis Strange go for the green in two at Augusta with the lead instead of laying up "He was gonna make no worse than 5, but now he's brought 6 or 7 into the equation."
  6. I just got back into golf after a several year hiatus and after getting back into the groove, switched from the Titleist DTs I'd got on Ebay to ProV1s. Night and day difference IMO. I havenlt really noticed any loss of distance and being able to stop the ball on the greens regardless of the club is a plus. Much softer feel putting and chipping. You can get AAAA/Mint condition ones on Ebay for a little over $1.00 a ball.
  7. I am DEFINITELY not a golf gear addict. I just picked up a set of Ping I3s off Ebay this spring to replace my 20 year old set of Tommy Armour 845s. I also bought a set of Cleveland wedges SW/LW CG14 Black pearl to replace my 15 year old ones. Finally I also bought a set of Cleveland Ultralight Driver (SL290) 3 wood and 5 wood all with the Miyizaki shafts (I love them btw!!!). Some things I do spend money on but if I buy something new, I'm selling the old stuff on Ebay shortly thereafter.
  8. Thanks! Went this evening for the twilight round but ended up stopping after 9 holes. Couldn't hold a swing thought in my head long enough to execute. Was hitting it all over the place and ended up stopping after 9 holes. I guess I spent too much time out in the sun earlier in the day spreading mulch. Too dehydrated to think properly. I'm hitting them again tomorrow morning to try out my new Sun Mountain Speed Card V1. No more walking and carrying the clubs in this insane heat. Good luck to you. Pablo
  9. I've spent the last couple hours reading a thread about the Master Key swing and must say I'm intrigued. Enough so as to drop $12.00 to check out the Ebook and DVD. I'd like to simplify my swing thoughts and this seems to be along that line.
  10. Left handed golfer here: Consistency, both physically and mentally: Mentally playing smart and playing the angles of the course. Where do I want to hit my approach from? What pins can I go after and where can I miss but still recover? Etc......... Physically by focusing only on the shot at hand and swinging within myself. Swing: Firm right arm and tension free left (allowing it to fold during backswing). Grip pressure even throughout swing. Most of all: enjoying my time and realizing how blessed I am to have the money, time and physical capabilities to play this wonderful game.
  11. Hello all (first post), I think it all depends on what shape your swing is in when you start the lessons. If you're hitting the ball decently but want lessons to get more accuracy or power, you may just get better if it's a small adjustment. If your swing has a flaw(s) that requires a timing adjustment to compensate, I would think you'd get worse (maybe a lot) if you tried changing that. With my youngest kid turning 18, I am just getting back into golf after nearly 7 years away (went golfing about 5 times in that span). I've been working hard on my swing and short game (range/practice green nearly everyday for at least 1 hour), trying to only encorporate changes that are sound. I've found a couple things and now am hitting the ball decently while shooting around 90 with a couple rounds in the low 80s. I was tempted to keep fiddling with my swing to make it a text book swing but I think I'm going to 'love the one I'm with' for right now and then come winter, revamp it. I want to enjoy my play time right now and just try to work on scoring.
