  1. Mine was recent. Me and my foursome got to the 18th green to find 3 mysterious balls just laying next to the green. Looked like old balls someone just threw out. I had my PW and SW in my hand. I chipped my ball with my SW from about 30 yards out and got like 10ft from the hole. I then walked past the other balls (about 25 yds in) and just playing around with my PW IN ONE HAND hit one of the balls. The ball flops up in the air, hits the fringe, breaks about 5 foot to the left and drops IN THE HOLE with perfect speed. One guy fell down laughing, I fell down laughing, one flipped his putter and walked away and the other went to the cart to laugh and drink his beer. Was one of the craziest one handed shots I have ever saw.
  2. Im no Tiger fan, But last time I checked he was in the top 10 in the world and has won more tour events than anyone up to date in 2012. He is still near the top in driving distance and swing speed, so physically he is fine. I would not be surprised if he plays for 10+ more years. And he will be on the olympic team in 2016, Bet your pants on it. I don't think that is done. For real, Just because he is not super dominate anymore does not me he is done. There will never be another "tiger like" domination. There are too many good athletes coming into golf and golf is now super mainstream. It just won't happen again unless a super human athlete comes in a consistently puts up rounds of 65 day after day after day. And on some tournaments that won't even win. I will say again, I'm not even a Tiger fan, but facts are facts. Tiger (like him or not) is still one of the best golfers alive, just has more resistance these days.
  3. Always remember, For the ball to go up, You must hit down. The average pro hit at 1.5 degree descending blow with the driver and slowly goes up to a 4 degree by the time you get to the pitching wedge.
  4. Haven't logged on in a while. I have to say good job and sorry for doubting. Also sorry for unintentionally hijacking the thread, I honestly didn't thing you were coming back. Either way... GJ Jimbo
  5. Hmmm. I do play in a Sim a lot but I live in northern GA above ATL. You must have my location mixed with someone else. I think Hybrids are the new go to club for a lot of people because how friendly they are to mis-hits. You can't really shank the shot and it is harder to hit it fat. You can still top it, but you eliminate 2 beginner problems with the Hybrid. On top of that, most hybrids are set with a draw, which helps most golfers that "push" or slice the ball. If i lost or broke mine, I would be going to buy a new one the very next day.
  6. 125 is a great PW. Honestly I just get the ball as close to the hole as possible on every shot (If hazards allow and whatnot) I'm usually not the guy that has a dead on 240 in and says "nah ill just use my PW twice" I usually pull out the 4i and let one fly. Of course if i have to lay up then i will, but if it is reasonable, I go for it. I'm a good chipper from 50yds in, so that may be the reason?
  7. Course. I never use that club in the Sim. I just feel like it can pop the ball out of the deep stuff better than my 3i or 4i ever could. Of course its not as good as a wedge, but I think it does a great job for longer shots in deeper stuff. My 5 Wood went the same distance as my rescue, my 3i was a club almost never used, and my 9 wood was almost identical to the rescue just more loft. I use it exactly how the name describes it, to rescue my butt from a bad shot, and i think it holds the right to keep its name for me at least.
  8. A good Sim will cost you 15k. + I play on one all the time and thought about buying one for my home. Great machines. I say go for it if you have the cash and the space.
  9. Commando Survival Knife, 9MM, Ar15 with 500 rounds and 3 clips. JK..... Just funny what some ppl carry. LOL @ extra iPhone battery. Guy has to be fun to play with
  10. I've never been to a trackman. The highest balls speed ive reached with my regular driver in the sim was 201. The highest with My LD club was 209. The carry distance for both of those ball speeds seemed a little low actually. Not sure if the formula for the higher ball speed is a little off or what, but i expected more than 325-330 carry off of a 201 ball speed witha 11-12* launch angle. I also snapped my driver in two that day i was laying it all out with my regular driver. They are not made to take it like my LD driver is. On a side note. 175 ball speed is pretty quick. I actually think if you used a LD swing you could reach 190. Its all about hand speed with the larger shaft length. Sounds like you have a powerful swing. I'd like to check a video of your swing out if you can pop one on here. Quality does not matter.
  11. Hybrids are great clubs. I love the feel of the club and the way it reacts in deeper rough when you still have a long shot. They are also VERY effective when your driver just isn't working with you. I replaced my 3 iron and 5 wood and 9 wood with a TM burner 2.0 18* rescue club.
  12. We have a hole like that on a local course. Crazy elevated, and the drives seem to go for ever. Really fun hole to play though.
  13. Thanks for supporting the thread. I'm glad you get the same thrill out of hitting a nice long ball. Sounds like you are making a good bit of power. I learned a lot from reading some stuff Jamie S. (The long drive champ) has written. You may want to read some of his articles if your interested in getting a few more yards.
  14. I appreciate it. I'm very interested in seeing what others can do. I have a feeling this will be a fun thread.
  15. Even though Long Drives are not the name of the game, A lot of people seem to be interested in the new fad of bombing the ball. I am one of these people. Distance sells, and its a good runner up prize if you can't shoot in the 70s. You will see a lot of people making the 300+ claims with no proof. But we are all golfers here, we have all played with a Ton of golfers and we all know that 95% of the claims are false. I wanted to start this thread to those who love the long drive, or those who think they can drive 300+. Show us what you got. Ill start this bad boy off with some stats of my own. I'm a amateur Long Driver. Im 24 years old 6'3 225lbs and my current Handicap is 14.8 as of yesterday. Even though I have a high handicap, I take pride in smashing golf balls. My longest ball in a Comp was 358 yds. There is no telling my longest ever, but I would not doubt I've put a few over 360-370 on the range from the thousands i've hit. I've drove multiple par 4s and hit some monster bombs from elevate tee boxes and downhill landing areas. I can stripe one 330-340 with my regular driver ( a TM burner 2.0 10.5*) on the range pretty consistently. I can also hit my stock TM burner 18* rescue club into the 300s (which seems to get more attention than my driver is why I mention it) Below is 2 videos I made for a different thread, but ill post them here for people to look at. When I made the videos I was rushed for time (you will see my wife in the white shorts telling me to come on in the hybrid video) So I just got up and hit a few balls after 36 holes of golf. So i was already a little tired. It was not my best attempts, but it is unedited and all I have right now. The first one is my regular driver, with my regular driver swing. The second one is my hybrid. I'm waiting on my LD driver to be fixed right now and ill post my LD Driver Video with my LD Driver swing. What do you think? Can you do better? Lets see what the beasts on this site have in them.
  16. The golf team i played on was only running 1 year before I joined. My dad sponsered the team and we got shirts/balls/gloves and some fees from that. You probably will have to have the kids get their own clubs. Do a few fund raisers and get the word around, You will need 5-6 players with some interest at the MIN. We had 31 try out for our team, 10 on the roster 5 in each match. 42-44 was the score that got you into the "starting line up". The school cut a deal with the local course for 125$ for a "school year" pass for the golf team members. We had to pay that out of pocket. We never had a girl on our team, but I played vs a few. They are really at a disadvantage from the blue tees, I don't think it is a good rule, but it is there.
  17. You get off the range and say to yourself, "Yea, I may need 2 sleeves of balls today" LOL
  18. RED BULL. I win?
  19. I had a deer stand in the cart path and would not move for what ever reason. So we drove around it. Also had a ball land 20 feet from a 8 foot gator. I just left the ball and hit another from a little further back. Gator can have my ProV1, Ill keep my leg. I would have had to hit the ball with my back to the thing. And it did not look happy with me. Last one is we hit a fox with our golf cart. Complete accident. Didn't even see it till we hit and it scampered back in the woods. Hope it was ok, Didn't run over it with a tire i dont think. Just hit it going 5 MPH prob.
  20. Sorry if im coming off that way. I was just trying to back up my claims with proof, didn't mean to come off in a bad manner. Yea, I agree the Sim is not real golf, but it is the closest I can muster up in 102 degree heat. And it does help my real game a lot. There is a guy in there that always shoots 2-3 under on 18 and when i play with him in real life hes a 15-17 handicap. He just has the putting down in the Sim. But either way, I want to buy one for my home. They are really fun. I was just posing my scramble score because it was a fun thing I did and TBH i was a little under the influence last night at the time of my posting. Anyways, I just really like long drive stuff. Its a cool sideshow game for me and its the strongest part of my game, so when i see a long drive thread i go ahead and dive in. Seems fair to me. Im not posting this stuff on a thread titled "How does my irons look" or something. On a side note, I was working with my coach today and he changed a few things up and i can NOT for the life of me get my clubhead speed back to par with my new grip. It is killing my distances. With the new grip im 127ish Club head and 180-183 ball speed. Just can't do what hes asking of me. I feel like i went back 3 months. I'm going to say no to the grip tomorrow if thing don't improve. On top of that im now hitting a little fade, and i never have a fade, and my backspin is up in the 4000s when it was low 3000s. Is it worth it to stick with the new grip even if it takes a few months to get back to where i am now?
  21. Still not even close to the same thing and you know it. Now if you played Grand Turismo in your real car hooked on a dyno with G sensors and accurate laser guidance systems to detect every slight movement that simulated real driving G forces and lateral G traction and accelerations plus gave you the feeling of G Force on your body through some type of machine, Then I would say ok.... same difference. Its like saying playing tiger woods is the same as the sim, that is just 100% stupid and ill informed. Funny thing is tho. I do it in real life every time im on the course / range. But i don't think an Iphone video of the range will help. How the hell would you see the ball. Trackman is ....wait for it.... a machine that uses lasers to detect all motions of the swing and ball..... a golf sim is........ the same thing. So Trackman = Sim? Ill try to make a range video... quality will be gay but w/e....
  22. I have already admitted the sim is easier in terms of scoring that the real course. The distance, Ball speed, Launch angle, is all accurate. You can set conditions like wind but we never play with wind. You have 5 different hitting surfaces. Fairway (Flat mat), Rough (Medium length "grass" mat), Deep rough 2-3 inch thick "grass" mat, Sand, (kind of the same as deep rough) and fringe (kind of same as rough). I
  23. OK, really. Ps3, Wii, and Xbox is nothing like a state of the art sim. Ill admit that my handicap on the sim is around 8 and on the course its just under 15 now. You always have a perfect hitting area and inside 6 foot is a gimmie, but you still have to make solid ball contact, hit good shots, hit the right distances and what not. Local pros come to the sims all the time to play, and always comment on the accuracy of the machines.
  24. Didnt start the thread. I posted a response to the OP that was constructive, but at the same time doubting his ability. I was asked for proof that I could do it myself, so I made a video proving it. Then the flaming started. Go back and look at my first post, I was talking to the OP and even telling him distance does not even matter really.
  25. Ok, now went to the thread and responded to haters, ill put my post for the night up. I don't know where all the LD hate is coming from, but there is a ton of it here to be a long drive thread. Before you flame please check out the video, no trick or whatever, I just get up, hit a few balls and show you at the end. I think i got ball speed up to 187 or something. That was with 5 swings after a ton of golf that day. I also hit my Rescue club 290 or something by request. 18* club. Same deal, got up and hit a few balls after a day of golf. Its not like i'm a 44 handicap and smash the ball. I play average golf with my rounds the last month sitting in the mid 80s pretty regular. I don't even hit driver that much on the course since i can hit a 4i 230-250 yds, and most holes just won't let you hit a bomb. I can chip well, and ive already said weakest point in my game is my mid irons and approach shots. My chipping around the greens is actually really good, but my putting is still needing some work. So where all this "bet you suck at chipping" stuff comes from I have no idea. Someone already pointed out my flaw in my handicap, and i agree, but probably won't change how i do it just because im never going to be pro, and it doesn't matter as long as i take my friends money on the weekends. BUT you have a good point. I would probably average another stroke a round doing 100% to the max right. As for LD clubs not being USGA standard, I use a 48" shaft on a 7* Geek head rated at 312 on the frequency machine and the stiffest flex avaliable at the time. That is 100% USGA legal, Am i missing something here? Ive already posted a video with proof, gave a detailed breakdown of my equipment, and showed shots of ball speed. Don't know what other proof i can give unless someone wants to come watch me swing a club. I guess some people just can't belive that certain people have the ability to hit a very long ball without being a pro golfer and nothing I do or say short of driving to their house, picking them up, and taking them to the course will make them think otherwise. On a side note, We did a 4 man scramble with 16 people today. Random draw for 4 captians and I didn't get one, but guess who was picked first :P the guy with the super long ball. We crushed everyone with -13. I got to lay into every drive and it was very fun. We played a course (Sim) called Troon North. And it was a very good course for a long baller. We had 6 eagle putts today. 2 were from me hitting the green on the two short par 4s of the course. one 328 other was 303. I over hit the 303 and rolled up to 37 feet on the 328. Was a fun night. So, Let the flaming continue, Ill check the thread tomorrow to get and update on all the hate.
