  1. All very interesting stories...My wife and I do not make 100k, more like 80k, which is not bad considering one of us is still working through grad school. I wanted to comment on finances, as it seems the cost of living relative to your income seems to be where the topic has shifted. My wife and I have employed a limited-credit strategy to finances and have managed to live quite well. We only use credit for the larger purchases (house and cars). We also use our credit cards for daily purchases but pay it off every month, effectively eliminating credit card finance charges but reaping the incentives for using the card. We typically receive $5-600 in gift cards annually for using the card. Not bad. My wife and I do this through managing the our "small" purchases and simply saving for large ones. I have found that eliminating latte's, bagging lunch and making dinner is the way to go. I was amazed at how managing these everday "luxuries" allowed us to enjoy other, less frequent, luxuries. We go to sporting events and well, play golf every month...within reason of course. We have also managed to save money! Now if the Fed would stop lowering interest rates we would be a bit more happy. What has been interesting about sticking to a strict "small" item budget has been the noticable increase in the price of these goods. Our groceries were teh first thing that caught our eye...we went from a weekly $40 bill to a staggering $50-60 bill in the last year. Yet they tell us that "core" inflation is not going up...
  2. I'm rock'n the 54* SW...fills in nicely between the PW (48) and Lob (60)
  3. Back to control...guess I nailed that one, eh? If you think you can control another random human being's actions...then who am I to debate you?
  4. Your committing a logical hiccup...You can't generalize from aggregate statistics to the individual case. IMHO, over-confidence seems to be a fitting scenario for an accident. In terms of second comment concerning the odds of surviving a robbery etc...let me ask you... I plane crash is very unlikely, yet the survivability of plane crash is very low... Yet we still fly? Why is it the safest way to travel?
  5. I see your point on praticality. Well noted. However, I find the prospect of applying for CCW permit a bit over the top given the odds of actually needing it. Especially, when you are more likely to die from your own weapon. Increasing your likelihood of death in the attempt to thwart a less likely scenario does not make sense.

  7. The issue is not anxiety..you're right, it is about control. The issue is about your attempts to control a possible future situation, i.e. the uncontrollable. The situations are just as imagined as the response. Compared to assault by firearm, you are more likely to die... being a passenger in a car by your own firearm falling accidental poisoning or injury Yet...we still drive cars, own guns, climb ladders and so on...
  8. I believe this was a question... Here is something you can carry with you..."Don't like the answers, don't ask the questions." Sure...if I carry a gun I may be more likely to come out better than a man with no weapon...but then again, you are talking plausible but highly unlikely events in the first place. If you are so concerned about the possible death or injury to your family... why don't you stop driving with them in the car . Much safer bet. (84 to 1, compared to 324 to 1 for death by assault by firearm)
  9. Only reason to have a gun in the woods is for hunting. I don't hunt, therefore I don't carry while I backpack. Great a shootout in the halls. More guns, more bullets, more stray bullets. You make it sound like my kid is the second coming of Jack Bauer...get a grip. Second, when the cops or security do arrive, looking for a "student with a gun" how do I know they are not going to mistake my kid for the shooter? Target ID is real problem when you have 20 year olds running around with pistols in the hall and ONE of them is the bad guy. Who is talking about taking guns away entirely? Do not confound the regulation of ownership with a ban on all weapons. If that is your logic, than why not drive an Abrams tank and wear a bullet-proof vest to pick up the groceries? You never know, a war might break out.
  10. My worst shot is usually off the tee...I hit fine my irons, but can't get off the tee with a driver to save my life. What I have found that works is simply to swing slower...I usually it well when I do this and if I don't, I am in a recoverable spot.
  11. I recently played at a course with some serious rough...2.5-3"...it was hell! All of my lies were "down" into the stuff and I honestly had a difficult time getting out. Thanks for the tips.

    Broken Window

I can see both sides...live on the side of a fairway, you should expect to be hit. However, on the other hand, if you are playing a course where there are houses on the side of the fairway, you should take serious note and play accordingly. Sort of like skiing down the bunny slope versus the diamond run...you just know the course with houses will present additional risk and you are responsible.
  15. Would I like to be in the fairway? Sure. But I hit my driver far fewer times than my scoring clubs...so I choose based on that....
  16. Check it out... http://thesandtrap.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10272 Just to give you all a heads up on how I constructed the photo... Before you save the image you should do a couple of things... First, I find spots on the fairway where I typically hit my drives...So I marked spots of 230-250yds in an around the fairway off the tee I typically use... Then I place a "marker" in that spot using the distance as the label. THEN I saved the image, because it will also save ther markers. I then used Photoshop to crop, cut, and organize the green, add some lines, or indicate some additional information. Save as a .jpg and you are good to go. The nice thing about Photoshop is that I can then print these in a borderless 4x6 format. Makes for a handly little book. During my next round, I will be taking my GPS unit and marking the tee boxes...then I will upload these waypoints to Google earth for exact distances for each tee. Good luck.
  17. I think it depends also... My slices and hooks only occur with the driver, whereas my irons are fairly straight if not a slight draw. So for me, I like a ball that spins because I am forced to make saves quite often off the tee.

    Yardage guides?

Well noted...thanks for your opinions on selling them...I thought about constructing illustrations based on the sat photos...but that is very time consuming and proved pointless given I had the real thing. Although illustrations would probably circumvent copyright issues. As far as the guide itself...you think there is anything missing? Or anything you would include?

    Yardage guides?

Need some opinions here...do you like it? If not, what is it missing?
  20. Hey fellas...quick questions... I have been putting together a yardage guide for my home course...a small public 9 hole executive course. Anyhow, I have put some time into this and was wondering if you think there would be any problems selling them at the course? Would you buy a home-made one? What would you look for in a guide? Would "photos" of the course work better than illustrations? Here is what one of the holes looks like:
  21. Thanks fellas. I do feel like a over-swing.
  22. Does your wife have shorter than standard women's clubs? My wife is 5'1 as well and I feel like her clubs should be shorter.
  23. 77 views and 2 replies...I figure more would comment...unless you guys feel geezer is right on... Do I need to give more info? Bad video?
  24. Since everyone is doing it...
